In any business, there could be a time where a manager would have to tell their employees or coworkers difficult news. This can include firing a person or giving them a task that they may not like. In order to deliver difficult news, there are three important things. The first is empathy. You should be empathetic toward the person that you are delivering the difficult news to. Second is honesty. It is better to be honest with a person than dishonest, because dishonesty can cause the person to get the wrong message. The third is hope. You should show them that they have hope in the future, and help them find a path to follow.

This is a very helpful video. I would say some of the most difficult news to receive, pertaining to your job, would be that you are fired/laid-off. It is always a good thing to show that you still care about the employee, even though they are no longer employed by your company. During this difficult time an employee needs to feel that someone still cares and has compassion for their misfortune.

empathy honestly hope. the three step process to breaking bad news to someone. first make sure they understand that you care. alor of doctors fail to show this mainly because they really wouldn't be able to function as a doctor if they were too hung up on bad news. next we need to be honest about the situation and not sugar coat it. 3 show a way for hope. how can this person move forward? show them the way out.

I think empathy is a great thing and not everyone is capable of it. Laying out the facts is obviously necessary and letting them know the steps forward is a good way to lessen the blow for them since they are hearing the bad news.

Delivering bad information to people is never easy especially in business world. I think this business woman did a very great job and pointing out what needs to happen in order for you to deliver the message. empathy let them know you care, honesty that they can know the truth about whats happening, and hope show them the path forward. I think by using these will help when delivering the message and I will definitely use this is my line of work.

empathy, honesty, and hope are three key ingredients that a business should have. Many people rely on there jobs to take care of them and there family and when people hear bad news such as company closure or lay off it can be very painful because those people have families to provide for and the delivery of the message can be hard but it should be done in a tactful way that shows that the business is concerned about there employees and that is in the best interest to help the employee face this difficult time in there life but also should be honest and direct with the employee at the same time because it shows the pride and integrity of the company or business.

I really enjoyed watching this video because it provided information that we all need. Delivering bad news is always a difficult thing to do, and i absolutely hate it. I can't imagine working for law enforcement and having to go tell a child's parents that their child is dead. The parent's only hope is if they know their child is in a better place. But bad news is a part of life and someone has to deliver it. The three things to keep in mind when delivering bad news are:empathy, honesty and hope. Empathy shows that you care. Honesty shows that you respect them enough to tell them the truth event though it's the hardest thing to do. Hope shows them that things will eventually get better with time.

I think its very difficult to correctly deliver difficult news. I do like her 3 things: empathy, honesty, and hope. So many leaders try to beat around the bush as to why the bad news is coming. What you need to do is just be honest so that they have a full understanding of it. You can be honest and empathetic at the same time. I also think hope is very important. You must really show that you are hoping for the best even when it is a bad situation.

These three tips on giving difficult news to your staff are perfect. They are easy to remember and perfect for managers to use. You must first show empathy about the problem so your staff also feels the problem affects you and management understand their concerns. Second you have to be honest! Although this step is probably the hardest, it is the most important. No one wants to hurt others, but it's important for people to know the truth so they can learn from their past experiences. Lastly, it is important to give your staff hope for the future. No one wants to be let down or given scary information without the ability to fix it or be able to move on in the future.

Rebecca hit on three important characteristics I believe everyone should have. She hit on empathy, honesty, and hope. All of these characteristics can help an individual in their personal and business life. When delivering bad news it is very important to hit on all three of these points when delivering the news. It makes you easily understood.

Putting yourself in the other person's shoes can really alter the way a discussion goes or even if you have to fire someone.

Empathy, Honesty and Hope... these are the key things to have when delivering bad news. I liked the video and how quickly she got to the heart of it. She took a complicated question and really, solidly answered it in a brief amount of time. This is excellent showing of communication skills.

This was a good video, not because of the length but because of the content. One of the hardest things to do is pass difficult news to someone else. It is important to be empathetic, honest, and hopeful when delivering the news. You don't want to make the other person feel like they cannot recover from a mistake. Mistakes are going to happen. There has to be a positive outlook that better things can happen in the future.

Usually when I deliver bad news, I do so a blunt way. Even though this vide was short, I could probably learn a thing or two from it. She hits the main objectives when delivering news. People want to know that even though this bad news is affecting them that managers still care about how this is affecting their staff's livelihoods. Truth comes from transparency and it is important that people understand everything you are telling them. Otherwise they will never have trust in what you say. Lastly people want to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Delivering difficult news to anyone is never easy, but if you have to do it you want to make sure you approach it in the right way. Show that you care about the other person and be sympathetic about the situation. Be straightforward and honest about what's going on. I liked that the last tip was to give them hope. Make sure that you let them know you still value them and have hope in whats to come for them in the future.
