"Stop spending all your time on your customers"
Never thought of looking ahead of the growth curve. Too many times I've heard of a company going under because they didn't anticipate the decline of demand for their product. I like how Schultz says to focus on the infrastructure of your company. Not only having people with skills and experiences that are also outside of the company, but also focus on your lower level employees. Learn the things they would want or the things they would like to see change. This will definitely be an investment in your employees because by being able to keep them happy, will cause them to be better at customer service. So you're not really focusing more on your customers, but on your employees, which in turn helps your customers. Kind of like the phrase "two birds, one stone."

Balancing duties should be important to all businesses. Once you stop focusing on one thing, that is when problems are created. You should look at the company as a whole and what aspects you need to change and strengthen.

INSTANT MBA: Stop Spending All Your Time On Your Customers
A successful business comes from a combination of things. There are several aspects in business that are to be addressed properly in order to be successful. Undoubtedly, customers are one important part and they must be focused, but if you focus too much on customers, you may slip to address other aspects of business. Behind-the-scenes operations of business must also be considered because it helps the company in proper execution and planning of its tasks.

INSTANT MBA: Stop Spending All Your Time On Your Customers
While pleasing the customer is arguably the most important role in business, it is not the only role. There are many different and delicate things that keep businesses afloat far beyond daily customer interaction. Putting good managers in place that in turn hire the proper workers in order to get the job done more efficiently is every bit as important.

Howard Schultz says too much of the time sometimes is focused on the customer and not the backside of the business. some people may think other wise because customers is where you get your revenue from and if you don't focus on them, you won't be making any money. So i think this can go both ways when focusing on your customers.

It is important to have a balance between focusing on your customers and your business. To me it is very important to focus on your customers and making sure they are satisfied. It is also key to focus on your employees and the business part. The balance is key and you want to maintain this on a day to day basis.

INSTANT MBA: Stop Spending All Your Time On Your Customers
Investing in the people you have working for you is just as important(maybe more important) than investing in satisfying customers. Schultz realized this and began hiring employees with a breadth of skills in order to grow his company. By anticipating economic growth and finding talented people who could best help the company be agile in the market, Schultz helped Starbucks stay ahead of the curve.

Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbucks, talks about how you should not spend so much time on your customers, but on the things behind the scenes as well. It is important to hire people who can help carry your business to success. You must invest behind the scenes to make things run better. Your employees are what keeps the company going, so make sure to focus on them and that they are doing the right things as well. If the people behind the scenes are doing all the right things you have taught them, then you should have no problem with the front of the scene and pleasing your customers.

INSTANT MBA: Stop Spending All Your Time On Your Customers
This principle should be a no-brainer. I’m not sure why companies would not focus on efficient operations and planning for future operations infrastructure. I like the word infrastructure. I compare this planning to that of the electric infrastructure throughout the country. The original was set up and customers continue to get electricity. However, throughout the years the infrastructure has been neglected, despite the continued service, it will cause the future quality service of the customer to suffer. In addition, if you give your employees the best tools to work with, they will be more efficient in providing great service to the consumers.

INSTANT MBA: Stop Spending All Your Time On Your Customers
Managing the amount of investment in growing a company is a important operation. Leaders that find confidence in people that have more expertice then what is needed can very well find themselves with an upside to competitors. In order to grow a head of competition a organization needs to have resources that reach beyond the scope of their normal operations and this is can be achieved by hiring people that have more expertise and resources then what is necessary for the position. Schultz may have found that Starbucks was focused too much toward the customers and not allocating time to cultivating the company to stay ahead of the curve in customer service.

Knowing how to stay ahead is an important skill. You don’t want to get too comfortable in where you are today. If you do someone can easily come take your place. So you always have to stay on your feet to stay ahead.

Hiring people with the specific skills that you need to make your business be at its best is very important. Before you can hire the right people, it is necessary to figure out exactly what kind of people you need working for you to get the job done, and then making sure those people will work well with your corporate culture. Another good thing to keep in mind is that it is a good idea to have a training process in place that is done with all new employees, irregardless of their previous experience.

INSTANT MBA: Everyone Needs To Take A Break
This article had alot of good points. Workaholics seem like a good thing, an employee that is constantly doing something and working on things. However, Overworking yourself can lead to mistakes and problems down the line. Hospitals do not let doctors over work themselves because if a doctor makes a mistake someone could be harmed. Many companies make breaks manditory, due to worker's rights laws. Often a store will require that employee breaks have a minimum amount of time, they don't care if you take longer than you are supposed to, but never take shorter then you have too.
