INSTANT MBA: Even In A Collaborative Atmosphere, Acknowledge Individual People
Acknowledging and recognizing peoples individual efforts makes people feel really great about what they do. It is tough to do in a more collaborative environment but by examination of the roots of the successes of the group can point to one person or a few people for its success. If you don't recognize individual in a group setting, they may feel underappreciated. Especially if they may be doing more work than someone else in a group but getting the same amount of praise from a leader. It is a delicate balance in a group setting, but recognition is very important.

When companies became large, it’s still important to notice individuals. People like co be commended for their efforts and when you give them credit for an accomplishment they feel a sense of worth. I agree with this because I know that when i do something beneficial to help others i like to be recognized for it.

INSTANT MBA: Even In A Collaborative Atmosphere, Acknowledge Individual People
Even though many people work in collaborative groups, I think that individual efforts should be acknowledged as well. Sometimes when a large group of people are working on a project, one person may go the extra mile or come up with a good idea that pushes it forward.

In a business it is important to make sure that you acknowledge your employees who have done well. When employees feel special it makes them want to work harder for you and be acknowledged again for their hard work. They also feel like a vital part of the company and they will continue to care for the company and want to continue working for the company again. Your employees will always want to be appreciated for the hard work that they do.

INSTANT MBA: Even In A Collaborative Atmosphere, Acknowledge Individual People
Today's advice is basically saying to make sure you never forget to acknowledge the contributions of individuals. By making those with valuable input aware of their value and your appreciation, you can more effectively motivate them to keep up the good work. When employees (or really anyone) feels neglected and like their hard work is never acknowledged: eventually they will stop working hard. This is good advice because it reminds us to treat employees like real people with real feelings, and to use appreciation as a motivating tool.

INSTANT MBA: Even In A Collaborative Atmosphere, Acknowledge Individual People
The best way for a manager to motivate an employee is to give them sincere praise. When managing a group of people to get an objective accomplished it is more important to motivate the entire team, however some individuals are always going to be more effective at accomplishing tasks than others. Communication is important in collaboration, so to set forward an example of excellence by acknowledging an individual can prove beneficial, however it can also confuse and demotivate others in the group. I mostly agree with this article.

I completely agree with Lieb in using the “small fish in a really big pond” analogy. Individual acknowledgements are essential in group projects. It can serve both as a motivator to those who weren’t recognized and would like to be, as well as constant encouragement to those who were recognized to keep up the good work. One must keep in mind that it takes a team to excel. A single strand of rope is weak, but multiple strands intertwined are stronger.

I guess to me this idea seems childish, my meaning is this, when in school as a child I always wanted to hear the teacher give me praise for knowing the answer to a problem, and when I gave the wrong response, and someone else got it right, it would aggravate me and spur me to get the right answer next time. I feel like that is what is going on in this article. If people work together and they do something great and get praise for it, maybe someone else will push harder to get that praise instead of that same person again. Basically this allows for friendly competition, because everyone wants to be praised for their work and if you use this system as a reward then more workers will stride to outwork the next making the business that much more effective at what they do.

INSTANT MBA : Even In A Collaborative Atmosphere, Acknowledge Individual People
This article discusses the importance of acknowledging individuals for their part in collaborations. When someone comes up with a great idea that is put into use, that person needs to be commended. If they don’t receive the praise for their contribution, then they will start feeling like a “small fish in a big pond.” I completely agree with this article. When people do not receive the feedback they expect, they start feeling used or even unimportant to the organization.
