INSTANT MBA: Even In A Collaborative Atmosphere, Acknowledge Individual People
I believe there is nothing more rewarding for an employee than being recognized for the efforts put into the job. Most of the time, employees prioritize the moment where their accomplishments are being acknowledged over money. In other words, if an employee stands out in terms of the contributions made for the team and the company, he or she will expect to be commended by managers, leaders, and other employees; and this is more fulfilling than any financial reward. I consider very important for every business to make individual accomplishment recognition part of their everyday activities in order to motivate employees to keep collaborating with their teams.

INSTANT MBA: Even In A Collaborative Atmosphere, Acknowledge Individual People
I believe that it is very important to recognize individuals for their contributions. Failure to recognize and individual’s contribution may cause them to feel unappreciated and they may begin to become less involved. I recently had an experience where I was able to recognize an individual for their work and it brought great results. I had a team member recently that I had spoken with and realized he did not feel supported by his leadership. Once I recognized how he felt, I began working to bring him some recognition for his work on my teams through the upper levels of leadership. After he received this recognition, he actually started bringing more ideas for ways to improve our work processes. It is also very important to understand the individuals that you are looking to recognize. Some individuals want to be recognized publicly and there are others that would want to be recognized in a more private manner.

Instant MBA: Even In A Collaborative Atmosphere, Acknowledge Individual People I do believe in giving recognition when it is due, so to me, the business world should not be any different. When working in group settings, it is very important to give proper ‘credit’ where is goes, because you do not want employees to feel that their work is not being recognized or accounted for. Secondly, if proper recognition does not occur, then employees will put less effort forward to execute projects and the difference will show. Lastly, as a leader you have to ask yourself, would I want credit for my hard work? Of course you would, so why not treat them the same way? I feel that everyone one should be recognized for both their achievements and failed attempts, only because they tried their hardest, and they either failed or succeeded at it. Believe it or not, employees work more gracefully when they know that the boss is paying attention to their work, as an individual. Actions like this will help the company prosper to something enormous.

I think that collaborating and working as a team can be very effective for many businesses. I do agree that at times employees do begin to feel like a small fish in a big pond because they do not get individual recognition for the input that they may have had in a project. As a leader, it is important to give recognition to each member of the team for the contribution that they may have had to the project. Without their contribution, the project may not have been completed in a timely manner or with the right pieces to make it work. It is also important for other team members to recognize the individual contribution of their team members.

INSTANT MBA: Even In A Collaborative Atmosphere, Acknowledge Individual People
This article makes a valid point. I have been involved in many group projects where there was at least one slacker in the bunch. I personally hate to have to pick up the slack for someone who is clearly not trying, so I feel that if I go an extra mile to contribute to my group's success I should definitely be acknowledged for it individually. As a leader when your employees are working as a team it is very important to also acknowledge what each person in that group has done individually to contribute to their specific project. Just as you would acknowledge someone who has contributed an outstanding amount of time and effort to their team success, you should also acknowledge the slackers within the team. This will not only encourage the outgoing individuals to continue to go that extra mile, but hopefully it will also encourage the slackers to pick up their own slack!

Good article. I think that in any business, acknowledgement of good work is always a big plus, especially for really big companies. If a person doesn’t get the praise he/she deserves, they may tend to ease up on their progression. In order to keep employees striving for excellence, give them props for what they do.

INSTANT MBA: When You Think You're Smarter Than Everyone Else, Your Team Will Stop Speaking Up
I agree that the best bosses are those who have good listening skills. Sitting back and listening to colleagues, employees and customers will give you the time and opportunity to take in meaningful information. While listening to others, creativity and ideas begin to flow. Having different opinions and suggestions is the best data to collect, especially those in the field. Bosses that always talking causes employees to disrespect and ignore them. Keeping an open communication policy with the staff, will keep the respect you deserve.

INSTANT MBA: Even In A Collaborative Atmosphere, Acknowledge Individual People
It is always good to be on the same page with the people you are working with. Make sure you talk to your team as a group, and have some time to talk with your employees individually. This will make your employees trust you more, and would share more with you about what they are doing. Make sure that you are not only meeting with them individually, but actually care what they are talking about. Don't be fake, ever. Not even in a business, be real and polite and if you are fake you shouldn't be in the business in the first place.

Also it will boost their confidence and they will continue to give out suggestions and work hard for you if you let them know how awesome they are and how much you appreciate them. I experienced this very thing at work this week. The CEO casually said to me in the hall way as I as scanning some documents, "You have really helped us go towards being paperless. We had no clue how to begin the process and keep the process up, but you jumped in and made it happen. We are so much more organized now. Thank goodness!" What to me seemed like such a small unimportant task of scanning and organizing several types of documents was a great thing for the company and her telling me that energized me to want to put even more types of documents we keep hard copies of into pdf form.

I like this article and completely agree with it. I think it's extremely important to acknowledge individual performance whenever you can. In my previous job this never happened and it made certain employees care less about the job and they started slacking off. It was a very physically demanding job and none of the managers cared when something was done ahead of schedule . It's the exact opposite in my current job, everyday there are meetings held for that reason. Managers and regular employees get the chance to recognize and congratulate other employees on the jobs they've done recently and it makes everyone feel much better about themselves and encourages them to do even better in the future.

Everyone wants to be noticed for their hard work. If you do most of the work in a team project, and only the team as a whole gets the credit, it will discourage you to work as hard next time. If you are acknowledged for your hard work, it gives you the energy to do a better job next time, because you see that the upper management recognizes your accomplishments and hard work.

Out of all my jobs, I have never had one work this way. I constantly do work that goes unnoticed, but it makes me feel good about myself. People shouldn't do everything for recognition. Even though recognition is nice, the moment you start doing things for yourself and not for the feedback from others, you move forward in life. The little things no longer bother you and you can feel more important because of the impact you see yourself making.

INSTANT MBA: Even In A Collaborative Atmosphere, Acknowledge Individual People
In this article it makes a very valid point about recoginizing each individual in a group for the effort that they put in to a project or a job. I believe that it is important to do so because they may have some people in the group that is not putting forth any effort and recieves the same amount of credit when they should not. I am apart of a team at my job and I have some team members that do not do great work like I do. But I am also compenstated by the pay that they give me which is fine. If they did not sometimes I feel like I would not do as much but that is not in me to do so. When some one gives me a task I execute it in the manner in which they want me to the same way everytime. The bottom line is to recoginize your people that do work all the time.

INSTANT MBA: Even In A Collaborative Atmosphere, Acknowledge Individual People
I love the idea of a wrap-up meeting that they describe in the first paragraph of the article. The fact that they step back and acknowledge everyone’s individual contribution is a great way to keep a group of people organized and excited about their work. Even if it is a larger group, acknowledgement can create competition amongst employees to be the best and be acknowledged. Everyone feels good when they are recognized for their work, especially when done in front of other people they have mutual respect for such as their fellow employees.
