Paul Venables: In a highly networked, global world, has the meaning of leadership changed?
A good leader should always listen to his or her working team, take everyone's opinion into consideration, and give team members the opportunity to create ideas and run with them. Micromanaging does not work anymore.

I agree that our world is changing so fast especially with ethnology. No one has the answers to everything, but I think that leaders need to be trained on how to respond to questions that they do not know the answers to. Leaders should be able to provide some type of response even if it is to refer to someone else. They should also be open to listening to employees which is where they can learn so much about what is actually going on within the company. This can have such a positive impact on a company.

Leadership does not mean having all of the answers. To be a successful leader one has to understand the importance of having an open mind to other people's ideas. I agree with his point on the old view of leadership being ego driven. There is not one person in a company who has all of the answers. In order to run a successful business, several strong minds need to come together.

Having a leader that controls everything does not leave room for other's ideas and thoughts. It is just that one persons ideas and thoughts. A good leader realizes they do not have all the answers and it is good to get ideas, thoughts and help from others.

I strongly believe that leaders are born but can also be made. When we are younger no one tells us to become the leader or to display those qualities they are just in our nature. But also leaders can be shaped and made for certain situations. Yes leadership is different today than it was a long time ago, but great leaders have the same qualities all the same.

I like that the video pointed out that today's leaders do not have all of the answers. I think that was a problem with businesses in the past. They believed the leader to have all the answers and that their leaders were infallible. More often than not, this would get companies into a lot of trouble. Today's leaders are seen more as a figurehead or shepherd, but there is an open door policy that allows employees to interact more with their leaders. This boosts moral in employees when they feel that they are cared about by top management. I think that this also helps top management to understand the operations of their company, and the things that they can improve upon.

I like how he mentioned that the old way of following the leader is dying and having a group discussion is the new way. We have to have other peoples input and we can all ban together to form one strong answer. Sometimes an employees voice can bring forth new and positive information or idea and it could be a game changing decision. Managers and owners should always listen to their employees.

Being a leader is not just leading a group of people blindly, but actually jumping in the mess with them and rallying them on with you. Follow the leader is an outdated and a child's game.

I agree that today's leader is not the same as it once was. People rely so much more on networking now. I believe that in order to be successful you truly have to have great networking skills. This is not saying leadership has been ruined or doesn't exist, I think it has just been redefined.

I do find his definition of a leader to be true. A leader is not the same as it used to be. Not every leader has the answer to everything.

The idea of working with a leader as opposed to working for a leader is ideal. Someone who is in leadership of us simply takes responsibility as opposed to the my way or highway option. By being open to our ideas and opinions, we feel more respected and valued as a worker. You open the door to more possibilities because employees are more likely to speak up and present their ideas to you. The productivity should increase because they feel more comfortable at work and respectful of you as opposed to resentful.

A leader changed is an innovative concept that will revolutionize the way people interact with their employees. Allowing people the freedom to express their ideas instead of simply following orders sent down the chain if command will result in a much more dynamic work environment and lead to competitive advantages.

This video is similar to the other one regarding leadership. Leadership is measured in influence.

I liked the part where he said today's leader cuts a hole in the fence and lets the people run and run and run. I think this applies to a majority of the top business practices. The best ideas that make a company successful do not come from the top management hardly ever; rather, the best ideas come from the middle and lower employees who contribute to the company. It is very important that company leaders give their employees the freedom to be creative and think outside the box, and in return, they can give back to the company by possibly coming up with the next big idea.
