Leadership is different in every company. No leader is perfect. The way people manage those under them are the successful managers. Not only are leaders implemented to set rules and give orders but they are there to help bring out the best in their team by assigning them task that are fitting to the individual. Knowing what works best for each employee is very important in being efficient.

Good video, but not great. I do agree with what the speaker is saying, but the leader/manager must put that “follow me” attitude upfront so that his/her employees will respect them and their position. I am not saying you have to be a tyrant, with world domination as your primary reason for leaving, but instead listen to your employees, understand their concerns, and implement any changes they suggest and you see as being both effective and necessary. Make sure you credit them for their suggestion, because no one likes to feel that they have been cheated or beat out of recognition.

He is right. A lot of people seek to one person for all of the answers when that isn't ow it takes place now a days. The leader is usually one who we go to, to get the final decisions, not the one with all of the answers. I enjoy as a president, listening and receiving feedback from my fellow members because sometimes I may not be aware of all of the problems that are occurring and the solution needed to implement them. The leader is not God, he or she is just someone who has better insight on most situations and better judgement.

TITLE- Paul Venables: In a highly networked, global world, has the meaning of leadership changed?
I have been a leader in business, as well as, in many other venues throughout my life. The message of this video correlates to nearly all of them. Today’s leader must know and understand that they cannot accomplish by themselves what a team can. In business this is very important because not leading in the correct way can not only hinder your individual ability but it can also hinder others who you influence.

This video was very insightful for me as I begin to venture out into the real business world. Although leaders are expected to lead the way in a sense, they need to remember the importance of working with their colleagues. It is impossible for a single person do accomplish what a group can do. Leaders should never feel so superior that they do not want help from others.

I definitely agree that leadership today is different from what it was. Everyone is a part of a team; instead of everything just following the leader, a great modern leader will work with his or her colleagues. I believe what the speaker means by a leader cutting a hole in the fence for his colleagues to jump through is that everyone can have the chance to make their ideas heard and the leader has the power to turn these ideas into reality for the company. There’s no I in team and today there’s definitely no I in leader either.

My bosses boss said this to me. It is about coaching your team. What i mean by coaching is helping your team when they need it but still letting them do there work without being overbearing.

I agree with what he had to say. The term "leader" is more like a coach instead of the team captain. They teach, and set plans, and motivate, and inspire, but ultimately lead you to the reward of it all. It's a team effort and who understands that better than the coach?

In today's world I believe that it is impossible to control every single detail in a companies day to day operations. The CEO has to let his employees use their natural abilities to make decisions and stand by them. By doing this he will have more diverse decision making and in turn, have a more diverse product.

I think that what it means to be a leader has changed because society has changed. In the past, the leader was someone who knew everything. Now, that is impossible. The world, especially the business world, is constantly changing. The most effective leader is one who takes opinions and advice from other people. I think that leaders are no longer single people, but groups of people that mesh well together and can bounce off of one another's ideas and challenge each other to become better, to come up with more ideas. The world will continue to change and so must leadership.

I find this to be true. The most successful people aren’t typically the smartest but are able to surround themselves with the most intelligent individuals in their field. Modern leaders are also able to bring out the best in those around them. One person will never be the best at everything, but by empowering those around them they can lead others to success.

I agree with the speaker that our leaders have changed. Leading is no longer about one person with all the answers who makes all the decisions. Leading is about delegating to the correct people, asking for help and listening to your employees. I don't think the only reason for this change comes from a global, highly networked environment. I think there are many factors that influenced the change including technology and social media.

I agree with this video, that leaders do not always have all the answers. Which is why leaders have a team that they work with in order to obtain the answers needed to accomplish the task at hand. It is better to have a group of people working on a task than there only being one person calling all the shots. Leadership has truly changed over the years, they are now there more to collaborate not dictate.

Build a better model. It will be said again, again and again. This is how things are run the in the future. Steve Jobs is praised for being a perfectionist. But what else do you get with that, control freak. Its my way or the highway. Whats the point of hiring brilliant people if you don't let them be brilliant.

Todays leader doesnt have all the answers, and doesnt know every detail. They are more apt to give people the task of finding the answer and letting them do some of the work. This means that the meaning of leadership has changed. Leaders are more like managers now because managers give tasks to different people, and then put all the findings together in the end.
