If you are a leader and you do not give others on your team to take the reigns every now and then, their drive and creativity will diminish. You must allow others to lead and ask for their help to make them feel as a valuable part of the team.

I definitely think the message of this video hit the nail on the head in regards to today's leaders. Leaders today aren't expected to have all the answers about every single processor or problem that arises. Today's leadership style focuses on empowerment of employees. what I learned from this video that is can be fun to see have other people other than the leaders to work on project and solving problems.

Today's leaders are actually letting their employees or staff do their jobs and be creative. They are evolving and learning just like everyone else is. They know their jobs and how to make their employees' jobs a bit easier and satisfying; but they aren't experts on every issue employees have. They don't have the answers to everyone's questions. They are learning new things, each and everyday.

Today's definition of a leader has changed drastically from the past, because the world in general has changed drastically. I completely agree that a leader is no longer one sole person that completes all tasks and makes all decisions. An effective leader simple takes charge of the situation, and guides others not to follow, but to become what can be thought of as "sub-leaders". Especially in the modern world, teamwork is key to success. A team leader understands this and not only initiates it, but strongly encourages it.

This video is absolutely correct! A leader should not just be the CEO company but it includes everyone in the company. I think that in order for any company to grow everyone must play a part in being a leader. I definetly play a part in being a leader at my job. I lead and focus students and employees on what they need to accomplish each day. The whole idea of a leader being the high top of the company I feel is old school.

interesting point here. in the past apparently we all looked to the "leader" rather than viewing ourselves as leaders. i believe one of the best ways to get the most out of your employees is to let them know that they carry a lot of weight! weight is one of the biggest motivators for me. if i am the deciding factor on whether or not something will fail or succeed, you better believe that im going to give it my best

I think that the qualities required in a leader today have definitely changes over the years. Jobs are different than they used to be 20 years ago so the approach to leading people in those jobs must also change. With many more issues and rules against discrimination then there used to be being a leader also requires more caution Leaders have to adapt to change a lot more than they used to as well.

What a good point. Adaptation is key in our business world. The leader must be able to lead differently than what leaders use to do. I think we have learned that the "little man" on the totem pole has a lot of harnessed knowledge and ideas. To be successful, we must use what we posses to grow. And we posses resources in our people.

I agree with this definition of leadership fifty percent of the way. I do agree that the old definition of a leader as being the front of the pack with a bunch of followers is outdated, but I have to disagree with letting people "run and run". I believe a leader leads by example and has individuals who look up to them, but they also have a structure for people to aspire to do. For example a manager can be a good leader if they treat others with respect while also having a guideline for them to follow.

Leadership today has seen a complete 180 degree turn from what it was in the past. Even in the past, management leaders did not have all the answers but their egos would not allow input from others. Today's leaders have to be able to inspire others to come up with their own creative ideas mad use them in some capacity for solutions. Today' leadership must come from individuals who are diverse in the workplace and can work with different ideas from different people.

I definitely agree with Mr. Venable's view on leadership. The best managers/leaders i've had are not the ones who order you to do things and then take the credit because they are your boss. The best managers are those who show you appreciation for your work and help you to grow within your career. I believe that as a leader, I plan on building a team around myself that can collaborate and have conversations without fear of being judged or negatively punished for something. The best atmospheres are creative ones where people can freely express ideas.

I agree with Paul in that the way to be a successful leader has changed from previous decades. Today leadership is more about inspiring others which is what I think Paul meant by saying that a leader today cuts a whole in the fence. This is different from previously because leadership use to be more about commanding and ordering and today it is not that, but more about the ability to persuade others. I do believe that it is better to inspire others instead of telling them what they need to do, you are making them want to do the same thing and they will do a better job because of the fact that it is something they want to do rather than something they have to do.

I agree that today's leader is not the same as it once was. People rely so much more on networking now. I believe that in order to be successful you truly have to have great networking skills. This is not saying leadership has been ruined or doesn't exist, I think it has just been redefined.

I like how the video explained that a leaders doesn't has all the answers and how a leader let there follower run and run until they come up with a solution. A leader is someone who is direct and take charge but even a leader doesn't has all the answer and some time a great leader is a great listener because it can be the thought of other that can help a leader be a productive leader because a good leader spends more time listening before responded to any situation that may face them.

A leader should be challenged and questioned from time to time. Leaders need to allow for these questions because the questions cold lead to new breakthroughs.
