Listening before speaking is very important before making a decision or proceeding with another idea. No matter how old you are are what position you hold, you should never be afraid to take the advice of another, sometimes a second opinion is needed to help you trigger thoughts and ideas. People perceive things differently and that should be a skill a person should look for, being to prideful and thinking you know everything is harmful and not very good practice. If you don't know what to do the best thing is to just ask.

Being a part of a sorority has helped me learned that I am such an inquirer about any and everything. No one wants to be in the dark about things that they know they should have answers to. The best way for your questions to be answered is to look for help. Ask your partners, or employees, or other leaders available to help with useful insight on your issue. This video is helpful for those managers with egotistic issues.

I think it's very important to exchange ideas and knowledge in order to make informed decisions. Asking questions is a vital step in this process. If you don't know the answer, the only way to find it is to ask someone!

I would definitely share this link with friends and colleagues. Thank you professor! I feel that a CEO of a company can have lots of answers and knowledge but sometimes they don't always have all the answers. He/she wants to be able to get information and brainstorming from his employees. This is the reason that a sales team of competent employees was created. It really makes the company more cohesive and also in the long-run makes the company very profitable.

I agree with this video, the best thing to do when you don't know what to do in a situation is to ask questions. Asking questions allows you to get different suggestions and pick which will work better for the problem. It is also important to ask questions when you think you know the right solution because others might have some input that you didn't think of.

It is always important for students to ask questions and seek advice, but this also holds true for big-time executives and CEOs. No one should ever be too proud or afraid to seek advice or information from their employees, external sources, or those who may be more knowledgeable than you are on a particular subject.

TITLE- Lane Bess: What do you do when you don't know what to do?
Managers are often only as good as the people around them. It is easy to perform well in a management role when surrounding employee’s aid in creating a more of a collaborative effort. When managers loss trust or don’t involve the people around them they are likely to cause stagnation or regression both as an individual and a business. Managers should always attempt to collaborate with those around them, especially in difficult situations.

A CEO should know when to call in the team to develop a solution to a problem. This is very crucial because team members shouldn't just give the boss their thoughts without him/her wanting them. The CEO needs to understand that the team can be used to help formulate solutions to problems. As the boss, it is extremely important to get this because you don't know everything.

This was very generic and bland. I do get that CEO's don't always have the answers and it's good to put it out there publicly, but it just seemed flat. I don't know. NOt remarkable and underwhelming.

I really appreciate when videos attempt to redefine leadership or managerial roles and responsibilities. Emphasis on human capital being an important business tool is great, as everyone possesses different knowledge and skills to contribute. It's a good way of thinking! Naturally, a leader or CEO is not going to have all the answers...if he/she did their title should be "God" (humor). The best a top level leader or manager can do is to pull from internal or external surroundings. I think it's always important to pull from internal sources first as workers prove loyal and competent. While external surroundings represent greater levels of information bias, they still provide additional information. I think a leader makes greater money not just because they are good at pulling information from their surroundings, but because they can process the information in important ways to arrive at effective decisions.

IN business, it's okay to not know all the answers. No one is perfect and employees don't expect you to be. It is, however, important to know what to do when a potential problem arises that you don't know the answer to.

Knowing when you do not know the answer or when to ask for help is a very important managerial skill. Trying to work on something that is out of your element will just waste time. You also face the risk of doing things incorrectly. Bess said that the answer comes from a collective input of people. This is why the CEO's have boards and shareholders. They need to hear how everyone would deal with the problems at hand and then make the best decision.

When you do not know the answer, it is easy to make up something to make it sound like you do know what you are talking about. I really liked this video, because it shows that he knows when he knows when to ask for help and input. Not all managers and leaders are like this. They don't want to be wrong or let anyone see their weaknesses.

One of the biggest problems in leadership positions is that leaders often feel as though they have all of the answers, and it is always "their way or the highway". However, leaders are just as human as their employees. They make mistakes, they make wrong decisions, and often, they don't know all of the answers. Having an effective team in your business is critical to your success. You must promote a sense of trust and creativity among each other, be willing to listen to each other's inputs, and not be afraid to ask questions whenever the answer doesn't seem to be there. Even when you may know the answer, it can sometimes be beneficial to your team to let them weigh the possibilities and come up with their own conclusions. Sure, their conclusion may be wrong, but you've allowed them the power to think together, be collective, and brainstorm as a team. These are attributes of teams that work together to change the way the world works.

I guess that is a good answer. Hopefully the team of people you pull will know the answer or at least be able to come up with one. I guess this is the only thing to do when you do not know the answer. Unless you were able to do lots of research.
