INSTANT MBA: Look To Your Past To Figure Out What Works For You In The Future
There must be a healthy respect for the past to be able to continue success in the future. Sometimes if your business is sputtering you may need to look back at your past success to see what you changed and maybe can draw from to better your current processes. If those old ways are completely out of date there is still usually some good you can draw from them to apply now. When companies just improve from their original identity but don't completely change they usually succeed.

INSTANT MBA: Look To Your Past To Figure Out What Works For You In The Future
I somewhat agree with this article. I do believe you can look at what has worked for you in the past and apply it to present and future endeavors, but I do think you should look for new solutions as well because what worked in the past may not work now or for every situation. And it may be easy to get stuck on doing something a certain way just because that’s how it has always been done. If you look back on anything, I think the mission statement should be a source of guidance.

We study history so we don’t make the same mistakes. In business we do the same thing. It is important to study the history of a business to know what worked and what didn’t. Certain methods work better than others and studying what went wrong can help to give you a competitive advantage.

INSTANT MBA: Look To Your Past To Figure Out What Works For You In The Future
I've always heard to not dwell on the past but I guess it's okay to do when the future of your company is in jeopardy. Basing future choices on past experiences isn't something I'm a big fan of but in some cases it could be beneficial. In today's world change is imminent, and it's dog eat dog. Changing too much too fast could be a problem though; if this happens then a business needs to look back on what worked before and try to tweak it differently so that it works for you now. The NFL is a good example of this.
