INSTANT MBA: Reality TV Star Says Small Business Owners Don't Understand When They're The Problem
It is incredibly hard to change when you've built your entire business around your own ideas. An entrepreneur starts their business with their own policies and ways of doing things, so I imagine taking change and new ideas, especially from an outside source, can feel demeaning. A business owner probably gets to where they are thinking that their own ideas are the absolute best ways of operating. But, being able to adapt and take advice and really realize when your way may not be the best way will be very helpful. As the author mentions, owning a business comes with great responsibility, to yourself and to others invested in your success. Admitting that you're wrong and maybe starting over in some areas can seam daunting, but may be necessary and any good leader should be ready for the possibility of that happening.

INSTANT MBA: Reality TV Star Says Small Business Owners Don't Understand When They're The Problem
It is important for any business that is failing or experiencing a decline in revenue to recognize a need for change. Coffey points out that many small business owners are reluctant to change, and these owners fail to recognize that 'they' could be the problem their business is facing. However, many small, family run businesses may have been started in a different decade or a different time when some marketing essentials, like using social media or the Internet, didn't even exist. There was a time when superstores like Walmart, Costco and Home Depot didn't exist, and all consumers shopped at small, family owned stores. Some small businesses just can't keep up with the competition, which is understandable in a grown society. However, the ones that want to increase profits and stay competitive, must recognize the original business plan must be altered. Of course, at the same time there are some small businesses that have such a popular business model, ie. Lambert's Cafe, that change would actually hinder business. The bottom line is, if something isn't too broken, don't fix it; but if you are drowning, drain the tub and start over.

INSTANT MBA: Reality TV Star Says Small Business Owners Don't Understand When They're The Problem.
When business owners are the source of the problem, it is hard to change and take responsibility for their actions. When someone has the title of "boss" it can be overwhelming. Many managers are to prideful to admit when they are wrong. Being the authority figure, it is your job to ensure that things run smoothly. When it doesn't, managers are quick to assume it's something the employees have done or aren't doing correctly. Business owners need to swallow their pride, take a step back, and evaluate their business from the employees' perspective. Listening to your employees' concerns and feedback is important to take into consideration. If you treat your business employees with respect and dignity, they will return the favor. It is easy to run your business into the ground if you are blinded by authority.

This article was very interesting. I hope that I remember some of the ideas that were presented in this article when it is time for me to start my own business. I absolutely love Tabatha Coffey and I agree with her when she says that Small business owners are most reluctant to understand that they may be the problem. Many small business owners are often blinded by their authority and pride. But they have to realize that sometimes you have to change they way things are done in order to achieve success.

INSTANT MBA: Reality Star Says Small Business Owners Don't Understand When They're The Problem
Owning and running your own small business can be challenging. Sometimes the business owner can get caught up in exactly what they want to do and how they want to run things, but they do not realize that they may not being doing what is best or the business. It is important to be aware and open to other people's ideas and advice. Just because you are the owner of the business does not mean you always know what is best. You cannot let your pride and stubbornness prevent your business from being successful. Instead, it may be best to step aside and let someone else help with what you are struggling with.

Reality TV Star Says Small Business Owners Don’t Understand When They’re the Problem
The TV show that they're describing, I have seen and I agree that most small business owners are blinded. The owners are so used to their methods and are not able to see that their businesses are suffering because of that. They are scared of leaving their safety net and thinking outside the box. As they mentioned in the article, the owners are too prideful to ask for help or even admit/acknowledge that they may be failing. A great example is the nine dots arranged in a square matrix. The goal is to make four lines without lifting the pencil/pen. People think it has to be inside the box the whole time because of its shape, but in fact you literally go outside the box. You make a triangle to make three lines and so forth. In the end, business owners need to know that change is good sometimes because it could be the only choice left sometimes to save the business; we shouldn't let it get that far though.

In a case such as this with small businesses it is easy to understand that they are set in their ways and unwilling to change. In most small businesses, the owners are people who put all their savings into starting the business that is their lifelong dream and they think the way they are running it is how it is supposed to be whether the business is doing bad or good. It's hard to be in your dream job with your own business and have someone come in and tell you that everything you are doing is wrong and that is why your business is failing. While it is not always the case, people who start these small business may have the money to start it but have no business experience. Money can't buy experience so, when dealing with these small businesses, it isn't always the consumer or the product, they need to take step back and realize they may be the one with the issues.

Instant MBA: Reality TV Star Says Small Business Owners Don’t Understand When They’re the Problem
This article was a very interesting one. Owning a business is hard work. It takes time and energy that most peoeple are not willing to put in. Small business owners, like any owners, have to work extremely hard to keep things running smoothly simply because it is most likely they have everything riding on this business. Sometimes when therre is a problem it could be a problem with the owner themselves. Maybe their methods are outdated, or maybe their techniques are just not efficient enough to keep up. In this case, things need to change. Most people are extemely scared of change and would rather keep things the way they are. This could be very harmful for a small business. Although change is difficult, sometimes pride needs to be swallowed and they need to accept that change needs to take place. When this can occur, a business can get itself back on it's feet in no time.

Instant MBA: Reality TV Star Says Small Business Owners Don’t Understand When They’re the Problem
People are always afraid of change and they will not want to change even if they benefit from the change. One must be open to change and accept that things that you are doing might be wrong and that there are other ways to do things. You are in a business to make money, so you should try to always change and adapt to what your business will benefit more from. This is a good advice, because if you are planning to start a business you should first go around and look other businesses that have been successful, within the same industry you are going to be in, and look how they do everything and so you can already get a heads up on what are the things that work. Small businesses owners should be open to new improved ideas so that their business in the long run will benefit.

Instant MBA: Reality TV Star Says Small Business Owners Don’t Understand When They’re the Problem
Business owners are usually very passionate people and want to do what they believe is best for their company. Many businesses do fail because the owners are unwilling to change their approach or unwilling to listen to outside ideas. I watch reality shows where small business owners seek help to correct their failing businesses and I have noticed that this seems to be the most recurring issue that plagues most owners. It is difficult to let someone else control your future and most small business owners start their own business to be in control. There comes a point when people have to accept that what they are doing may not be working and try something different.

"Reality TV star says small business owners don't understand when"
This can really be said about people in general. Most people I know fear change. They find it difficult to accept new ways of doing things. I myself have been this way before. But like all things business, change is always happening. If I was a business owner and I brought in a consultant to help me, I'll admit I'd hate to have to change how I run things, but in the long run it will be good for my company, and as a result good for me. You really almost have to accept change as an inevitability.

I absolutely love this show because Tabatha Coffey doesn’t hold back on the advice. She provides constructive criticism. The show itself provides me with lessons of how easily it is to run your business into the ground and it’s a hard pill to swallow having a stranger tell you it’s your fault or that you need to change. Who’s more responsible for your business than you are? Why isn’t the business progressing and who’s to blame? I plan to implement this into my career by simply listening to what others have to say and being open to change and tweak a few things.

INSTANT MBA: Reality TV Star Says Small Business Owners Don't Understand When
I agree with Tabitha for her criticism for small business owners.I have seen many small businesses which are owner by individual fail business the owner is the source of the problem but just by been a owner thinks that he/she know everything and dont want to lisen people advice or treat employees as servants who know little and dont lisen to them. These though become even worse if the individual have little education. I have worked with people with little education, most of them see themselves as boss and dont want to change or see themselves and their leadership as the source of the business failure.

Realization of failure can be difficult to accept for many entrepreneurs, When you created something from nothing. Entrepreneurs that fail to realize they need to adapt usually go bankrupt or close the doors. Entrepreneurs who change their ways and have an open mind usually become more successful than they thought. Adapting to the business environment is critical to any business.

INSTANT MBA: Reality TV Star Says Small Business Owners Don't Understand When
I understand Tabitha's point of view about business owner not willing to change due to being prideful and blind but I do not agree with this general comment pertaining to all business owners. Yes, some may have these issues but not all and it can even be an issue for larger companies too. All business owners must continue to get feedback from customers and employees to continually grow and better their business. Tabitha is exposed to suborn business owner because those would usually be the ones that are near failing.
