INSTANT MBA: No Amount Of Money Can Create A Sense Of Purpose
Sometimes money can be a good motivator to make someone work harder and better, but to me acknowledging the good things that an employee is doing will make them work harder and more focused on what needs to be done. When a manager comes up to me and says what a wonderful job I've been doing it makes me feel good about my job and encourages me to do more.

INSTANT MBA: No Amount Of Money Can Create A Sense Of Purpose
As a manager for Raising Canes, when it comes time to reward employees, I do not always look to the top performer. Although someone can be good at what they do, if they do not care about the company, they will not benefit your company in the long run. Rather than rewarding these types of workers, I look for those that care about the restaurant. The employees who are willing to pick up shifts on their days off, who are going the extra mile in customer service, and who are taking a real interest in the company's purpose. These are the individuals who are truly benefiting the company and who deserve to be recognized.

INSTANT MBA: No Amount Of Money Can Create A Sense Of Purpose
I agree with this article. As I have stated in previous posts, making your employees feel needed can go a long way in boosting morale in a company. An employee who feels appreciated and respected will usually go above and beyond for the company at no extra expense. They will be willing to do more than their fair share of helping the company to expand and increase profits.

INSTANT MBA: No Amount Of Money Can Create A Sense Of Purpose
Good article and the author is right. Money should never be the primary focus or goal for a company, even though there are many companies whose main goal is definitely that. Most employees main goal probably isn’t “How can I make this company more money?”, so why should that be the companies goal? As a manager or owner, coming up with an overall main purpose for a company, besides money, is an extremely important factor if you want your business to flourish.

INSTANT MBA: No Amount Of Money Can Create A Sense Of Purpose
I liked the example they used in this article about Wikipedia, I think that people are constantly looking for something to be a part of that is greater than themselves. Money is important, but when someone feels like they are making a difference, and they truly enjoy what they are a part of, they are going to feel fulfilled and want to continue to be a part of what is going on. If employees are not feeling fulfilled with what they are working on or a part of, they are more likely to leave, not perform as well, and have a negative attitude. Giving employees a sense of empowerment and purpose makes your business better in the long run!

INSTANT MBA: No Amount Of Money Can Create A Sense Of Purpose
I agree with the saying "money isn't everything." Some people like to get so caught up in how much money they can make that they forget the purpose of what they are doing something for. It is okay to do something every now and then just because. For example, every year at Christmas time I buy Christmas presents for those in need. I don't do it in hopes of getting recognition; I do it because I want to. I do not get recognized for buying for the needy at Christmas but I chose to do it anyway. I think everyone should do something just because at least every now and then.

INSTANT MBA: No Amount Of Money Can Create A Sense Of Purpose
This article gives good advice on how to motivate your employees. I personally am the type of person who is driven my achievement and affiliation. Money does not motivate me. I like to feel like I am important to my restaurant. I like to feel like I have a purpose and that's what drives me. You have to make sure that your employees feel like an essential part of the team if you want to effectively drive them.

INSTANT MBA: No Amount Of Money Can Create A Sense Of Purpose
As a manager is it important to remember money does not always solve problems. If you have a unhappy employee throwing more money at them to keep them is only a short term fix, they will eventually leave and will definitely not put forth their best effort. It is important to give each employee a purpose and praise when they do something great, even if it is their job. People want to feel important and have a purpose, this includes in the workplace. If you give them that they will perform their best.

INSTANT MBA: No Amount Of Money Can Create A Sense Of Purpose
A purpose-driven career is what most employees strive for. If managers get the employees’ input at the beginning, giving the employees a stake in the success of the project, the workers will push forward to make sure the initiative is completed timely and efficiently. I do think, however, that underpaid employees will not become efficient just because they have skin in the game. Pay is a motivating factor as well as the investment put into a project.

INSTANT MBA: No Amount Of Money Can Create A Sense Of Purpose
People tend to be motivated by acknowledgement and encouragement from their coworkers and bosses. If people feel important, and like they are apart of something bigger than themselves, that is when they tend to put in the most work. Making someone feel important can be as simple as thanking them for their hard work, or asking their opinions in making decisions. Compensation for hard work also motivates people and gives them a sense of purpose, which is good not only for the employee, but also for the company as a whole.

INSTANT MBA: No Amount Of Money Can Create A Sense Of Purpose
To create a similar sense of pride in your own workers, inform them from the beginning of your vision and ask for their input. Some employees will identify with the purpose while others will not. The bottom line is that money isn't everything, it's the sense of purpose that will encourage others to help you achieve your company's vision. I believe if organizations openly share with their employees their mission and vision, they will easily find talents who are willing to put the efforts necessary to accomplish operational and strategic goals.

INSTANT MBA: No Amount Of Money Can Create A Sense Of Purpose Money is only a compensation but if your employees do not understand your vision it can be as easy a just giving your money away. No one want to just give their money away they want it to go towards a purpose. So explain and model what you want done and your purpose can be fullfilled.

When trying to decide what kind of employees you want to have in your company, make a list of qualities you want each one to posses. When interviewing them, circle the qualities that they have . If they have very few then do not hire them for the job. You want your team to be your dream team. Sometimes it is hard to find your dream team. When you do find your dream team, treat them well so they will stay with the company for the long run.
