INSTANT MBA: Build Team Chemistry Like A Sports Coach
As a leader, it is extremely important to have a team with the correct chemistry. I have seen situations within my current role where the correct chemistry did not exist at one time. When this was the case, our leadership team struggled to lead and set direction. We had team members with a lot of talent, but they did not function well as a team. This emphasizes the need for a team with the correct chemistry. As this was recognized, the first effort was to try and change this chemistry before moving taking actions by asking some members to leave the team. It was very important to recognize this situation and take action. Today why the team may not have the same talent level, the team accomplishes a lot more due to the fact they work well together.

When choosing employees, an organization needs to make sure that candidates represent a good fit for the culture of the company. No matter how skilled an individual might be, if he or she has certain values, behaviors, or attitudes that go against what the firm is all about, then he or she will be doomed to fail within the company. Team members need to complement each other in terms of skills, knowledge, and experience, so they can better integrate and experience an optimal team work. I don't believe there can be a perfect team, but a team should be good enough to work efficiently and make progress beyond expectations.Best case scenario, you get offered a job and either take it and are better of or decline and stay where you are thus giving you an apprecation for where you are now. Worst case scenario you don't get the job offer and you still get to go back to your current job knowing more about yourslef and what you need to look for.

This article makes sense. In order to come together and make a great team everyone has to be willing to do their part. If one person thinks they make the entire team, the others feel left in the wake of the glory seeker. Team members are just that, a team that works together to get a job done. If someone is trying to take the credit of all involved, it won't take long for everyone on the team to become disgruntled. Teams should be chosen wisely based on how well people work together.

I have always like the analogy of your team at work being looked at like a sports team. You are trying to win everyday just not on a scoreboard. If you have a team of great players you are more likely to beat whatever you are up against.

I agree with the article and how it says you should let go of employees who won't bring anything to the business. If one of your employees are weak then you should let them go. Like the article says, you don't want to keep unskilled players on a team and this is how you should think when running your business. There is no point keeping a employee when you will benefit more when the employee leaves. Sometimes you have to do what is best for the business even if that means letting employees go.

I could not agree more with this article! In a management class I took last semester, the teacher said she has hired a lesser qualified candidate over a candidate that matches perfect on paper because the lesser was a better fit for the work culture she has created for her staff. I thought that was so powerful and encouraging for me to hear because I know I won't have the highest GPA when I start interviewing for jobs, but my positive personality and dedication can be valuable to the right employer. We have hired a couple of people at my current job that was not a fit for our company's culture, and it was pretty intense to watch how that one person turned everything upside down while they were with us. Skills can be taught- a personality can't.

I have seen many great crew members not succeed due to their inability to work well with a team. In most industries, it is important that your employees work together. Everyone can be an all-star, but if no one is working together, then you will never succeed. Getting people to work together can be difficult. At my organization, Raising Canes, we have crew member outings, where we encourage our employees to get together and bond. By bonding outside of the restaurant, we hope that these employees will bond in the workplace as well, driving our company to success.

INSTANT MBA: Build Team Chemistry Like A Sports Coach This article is one everyone should read. Being a leader you need to make sure that everyone is a team member. Everyone should understand that they are equal and working on the same goals. Teams need to be organized and maintained with communication. Everyone who is on the team needs to be on the same page, and that comes from the managers directing them.

INSTANT MBA: Build Team Chemistry Like A Sports Coach
Nice article. I strongly believe that you don’t necessarily need the smartest and strongest people to get the best chemistry out of a team. One strong person can actually bring down the whole group and eventually cause dramatic slow-downs. Choosing the right people for the right jobs at the right time is extremely important, but understanding that just because someone is the smartest, doesn’t mean that they’ll be a team player.

Having and hiring the right people is key to having a successful business. Just as it takes special people to work together, you also have to be able to keep the right people happy so they stay with your company. Every person has different strengths and weaknesses and finding the right way to get everyone to work together to display those qualities can be a challenge but can be so rewarding as well. Every person that I work with, part of management or not, is responsible for a different aspect of the company. Delegating people certain jobs depending on their strengths and what they are good at has brought our team chemistry together and made our store very successful. This all also helps promote employee empowerment which we know is such a great thing!

INSTANT MBA: Build Team Chemistry Like A Sports Coach
Building a team of reliable, loyal, and hardworking employees is one of the most difficult aspects of being a business owner or leader. You must be able to pick team members with varied strengths and weaknesses, with different enough personalities so they won't clash, but similar enough so they will get along. If you build a team that gets along with one another, business will run better and be more pleasant for all employees.

INSTANT MBA: Build Team Chemistry Like A Sports Coach
As a manager or team leader, team chemistry is everything. If a team a superstar, but the superstar is narcissistic or a problem child, the superstar still has to go for the betterment of the team. One of the big things Spiegelman brought up was that it is better to have a well-rounded team that can work as a team, than have a couple of superstars who “run the show”.

INSTANT MBA: Build Team Chemistry Like A Sports Coach
I love this article and the quote in the beginning. "Sometimes, being a CEO is a lot like being a major-league coach. That means you need the right mix of play makers in your locker room." Nobody likes a ball hog and everyone must contribute whether its the guy in practice giving his all to get the starters ready to play. Sometimes you have to let the all-stars go when they are hurting the team as a whole.
