I agree with this video, the biggest thing a company can forget is their competition. While wrapped up in making money, their competition can make a better product and pass them up.

HR has always interest me and I really like the topic. Right now I am playing the HR waiting game, to see if i get a job with Aramark. The best part of this video was the praise and recognition, I think this is the best thing for a company to do. Who doesn't like getting thanked in front of the whole office, i know i would love that. This to me would reassure me that i was doing a good job and that my coworkers had my back and appreciated the work I am doing.

Many HR companies ignore the competition because companies do not give good salaries and job packages. If the company does not criticize or praise an employee, they will not have a good return on investment. Good employees say that they would work herder if they were recognized at work. Many businesses do not have an employee handbook. A handbook should be written so that people can know exactly what is expected of them. If all these things are done, it can maximize the use employee work.

HR is kind of boring to me. Employees need constructive criticism so they are aware of what they are doing wrong and areas they are lacking in. However, on the other hand, you must make sure to praise them when they are doing good.Companies who do not recognize their employees and efforts and work often lose those employees to competitors. Knowing what your competition is doing the same or different is important so you can find your place in the market and improve where you see you lacking. Good video

The thing that suck out most to me was showing approval/disapproval. This is something that I have found to be very important to my current position. Within the first few months of employment my office manager sat me down in his office to tell me how much he appreciated the work I was doing. To me that is a very good indicator of a great boss. I also agree that an HR handbook is a great tool for employees to realize their goals and positions.

Ignoring competition is quick way of killing of a business. I believe that if you don't know what the next person is doing to be successful can harm your business because you are failing to the habit and pattern that is making the competitor successful. In order to beat someone at there strategy is to learn there strategy and once there strategy is figure out you can beat them at there games is what some business failed to see when facing competition.

Top 3 mistakes: ignoring the competition, withholding criticism or praise, no employee handbook. I think these 3 are very common mistakes that should be looked at closely. Having a handbook is crucial. In the few jobs that I have had, I have found that those with a handbook that is organized with the expectations and rules laid out, have been more successful. If an employee doesn't have something to go by, then you cant blame them for messing up. I also think that the other most important mistake is ignoring the competition. If you do not focus on your main competition, your business will go under immediately. You always have to be aware of your surrounding and stay on top!

This video provided HR with some very helpful pointers. Handbooks are necessary to competently direct employees of what a company expects from them and company goals. Constructive criticism is important to familiarize employees with necessary improvements they need to make. Praise is important because everyone likes to be recognized for doing a good job. Also, a company must pay employee's at a competitive wage if they wish to keep and retain good workers.

Wow! I would have never guessed that there are really companies out there with no employee handbook! That's just nuts. Companies must also check their competition. I bet the majority of employees quit their current position for another company doing the exact same thing. The only difference is that other company looks more appealing to the employee. Also, it is extremely important to evaluate your employees not only once or twice a year but constantly! How in the world will an employee improve if they have no benchmark to go off of?

And again the point is made that criticism is welcomed and raises performance levels. Human Resources can help or really hurt a company. I didn't realize 46% of people left in the first year... kind of crazy. But the competitive package makes so much sense. I had never considered the relevance of a handbook...

I think having an employee handbook is very important. A lot of times when an employee first starts a position there are so many questions. They could just have the handbook to refer to instead of having to run to coworkers or bosses to answer simple questions. Also, the handbook is a great tool to keep employees in tune with the company's mission, values, and goals.

I think that this was interesting video that hit on several good points. I agree that HR and Management sometimes loose focus on the employees which causes there to be turnover in their departments. I've witnessed this at my company in our sales dept. Over the past couple of years we have lost multiple sales and management staff to another up and coming company. It is also very important to provide employees feedback on their strength and weaknesses, this is the only way that they can correct issues as well as know when they are doing a great job.

This definitely one of the best videos I’ve seen. As I have stated before, I really like HR and all that goes with it, so I find this video very helpful and interesting. I most agree with the 2nd tip; make sure you show appreciation to your employees. Everyone likes to know they are doing a good job. Everyone likes to hear that they are doing a good job also. Employees that know they are appreciated will continue to do their best, and probably improve upon their work, but employees who don’t feel appreciated will not see the need to give it their all, especially since it goes unnoticed.
