INSTANT MBA: Don't Hang On To Your Past Success For Too Long
I have seen the point the author makes in this article in action. At my restaurant we recently got a new operations manager. It appears on paper based off of profits and audit results that he has brought a huge improvement to our store. But, in reality, our store has severely suffered since his arrivals. The profits increase and audit results were actually the result of the months when we were lacking an Operations Manager, and our three Shift Managers were running the show. Although it appears on paper that the success was due to his arrival, anyone who works in our restaurant know this is not the case. This was so much in fact true, that after getting our best audit score ever, our General Manager had to call his boss and explain our great success was not due to the new guy, and that he was actually bringing down our management team.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Hang On To Your Past Success For Too Long
This article talks about how even though your company looks like it is doing well now it may not do well in the future. The success of today maybe an effect of what your company did in the past. However, even though you are successful now doesn't mean you should stop trying to improve. The worst thing a company can do is doing the same thing over and over. Eventually the company will stop improving if no extra effort is put in.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Hand On To Your Past Successes For Too Long
When celebrating success in a business especially bases on profit, you must not dwell on it for longer. The longer you sit back and see your business thriving, the next big thing is being built by your competition. I think that it is important to see your success and acknowledge it, but then move on and continue making your business better and developing better ways and more product so you can continue to see the success you are currently seeing.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Hang On To Your Past Success For Too Long
I liked this article and I think that it has some great points. I believe the thing that successful entrepreneurs or managers need to always do is accepting change. Just because something may have worked yesterday, does not necessarily mean that it will work tomorrow. While it is nice to celebrate small victories, it’s best not to get too wrapped up in them.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Hang On To Your Past Success For Too Long
This is interesting because success is always the goal in business. So, when success is found, of course the person is going to want to ruminate on it, and really appreciate the work and effort that went into what happened. And, the bigger the success the better, the better you feel, the better it sounds to talk about it, the better it makes your business, etc. But, the biggest successes are also the ones that throw you right into a rut. If something works out exceptionally well one time, well enough to carry you for a good while, than you get lazy, just as the article said. Look at domino's. They were THE pizza delivery company, everyone was trying to catch up to them. it had been that way for about as long as they had been around. Then, suddenly, they started losing business, they started being talked bad about on the internet and TV and such, and next thing you know, new comers are threatening to kill them off. All this because they found their formula, delivering pizzas, and just stuck with that success for years, thinking it would be enough. Turns out, it wasn't.

Alt link 43: INSTANT MBA: Too Much Competition Can Ruin The Company
If your focus is on beating the competition that will work its way into to actions of your employees. Not only will your employees being to work to beat any competitors, but also they will begin to compete among themsleves. Competition between companies is a good thing, and even light competition between workers is okay, but when it becomes a major part of your business employees will pick up this habit and stop working together, and start working against each other.

I see this all the time in sales. Salesman that I work with talk about the good ole days where they did huge numbers and they act like because that happened in the past that they know everything. That you can't teach them anything because back in the good ole days they did great. Focus on what you did well and repeat that success.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Hang On To Your Past Success For Too Long
Hanging on to any success for too long can jinder your performance in the future, in business as well as in your personal life. If a comapny owner is too focused on the past, they will never be able to move on and focus on future endeavors. As the article states, it's easy for leaders to confuse past successes with what is currently happening, and understandably so. The key is to keep asking yourself whether or not you are focusing on the present and future, or dwelling on the past.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Hang On to Your Past Success For Too Long
Even though you may have had success in the past, you don’t want to hold on to it as if it’s successful now. You need to let your past success motivate you to be more successful in the future and not always go back to the past success.Although it appears on paper that the success was due to his arrival, anyone who works in our restaurant know this is not the case.I think this is an important thing to remember, especially in the context of management.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Hang On To Your Past Success For Too Long
With technology and other things today, the world is constantly changing. I can see how this article would be important. Just because something worked a year or so ago, doesn't mean it will work for the next year. Companies need to be ready to make changes when what has been done in the past is no longer profitable.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Hang On To Your Past Success For Too Long
This article points out a valid point. You must constantly judge your business to determine if it is still profitable. Just because your numbers are trending positive, does not mean that your business is still successful. It is possible that you may just be running on the success of the past. You must continuously scout out the future and feel whether you are still going to have that success. If you don't continuously look for success, the success of the past could run out and leave you stranded.

Having success is great and celebrating is great as well. Dwelling on it for too long will allow competitors to get ahead. Success should be celebrated quickly and be the start for greater success. You want to continue to be a product leader, but celebrating success for too long will not let this happen.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Hang On To Your Past Success For Too Long
I think this is a "duh" thought. If you hang on to anything in your past for too long regardless if it's success, you are going to go nowhere fast. You have to keep on pushing forward for the future. Looking into the future to see how to be better than the last year. If you're focusing on the past, you're going to lose out on the future.
