Instant MBA: OpenSky CEO Says Leaders Should Run Their Businesses like an Orchestra
I agree with this article because leaders know how to effectively lead people without getting the notoriety for it. They realize that people may overlook them and applaud their time without thinking about who got them to that point. It is important for leaders to know that some of the people who they can't see, may see them clearly.

INSTANT MBA: OpenSky CEO Says Leaders Should Run Their Businesses Like An Orchestra
Any manager can learn from this article. A entrepreneur can create a business plan and set up his or her business flawlessly, but if he or she cannot manage the employees, the business can still fail. Entrepreneurs must make a seamless transition from owner to manager when the or she hires employees to work for them. Creating a positive work environment and empowering the employees is just as important as keeping the financial records and creating a profitable product or service. If an entrepreneur can "conduct" his or her business like this, than the odds of it failing drop dramatically. A new business owner must evaluate their own leadership skills before undertaking such a significant task like opening a business.

INSTANT MBA: OpenSky CEO Says Leaders Should Run Their Businesses Like An Orchestra
It's true leaders should run their business like an orchestra in order to a obtain organization. When it comes to an orchestra there is organization, it starts with the conductor who is the leader and then the symphony which is your employees. In order for your orchestra to play the music right or your business to make money everyone has to work together and be on the same page. If your employees is not on the same page as the rest of your employees, your business will not have organization and will not be able to be ran right. This could help one in the future to run their business smoothe like an orchestra and to have organization.

INSTANT MBA: OpenSky CEO Says Leaders Should Run Their Businesses Like An Orchestra
This advice is short, simple, and very on point. I love how the author compared leadership to conducting an orchestra because it is very similar, and I had never thought of it in such a poetic way. Just as in an orchestra, keeping your employees in harmony and encouraging them to work together and towards the same goal will promote efficiency. Also, this will foster a positive culture in the workplace that will make employees feel like they are really one piece to a whole. When there is one rogue person not working towards the collective benefit, the whole operation will have a harder time succeeding in a great performance.

INSTANT MBA: OpenSky CEO Says Leaders Should Run Their Businesses Like An Orchestra
Even though entrepreneurs should possess leadership, they are two different things. Entrepreneurs should encourage employees to voice their creativity and opinions. Entrepreneurs play the most important role in the success of the business. They should be the "glue" that keeps the employees together and working as a whole. Entrepreneurs should be the "conductor" of their "orchestra". Most of all, entrepreneurs should be just as concerned with "unlocking" the potential of their employees as they are the success of their business.

This was an awesome article. I made a lot of sense. I like the metaphor running a business like an orchestra. I think it meant that everything must be in harmony with one another for it to run smoothly. The manager has to be a good conductor in order for everything to be in sync with one another. Also, I agree that Leadership is totally different from entrepreneurship. I believe that anyone can be a great leader. Great entrepreneurs are great leaders as well, but they also have passion and great work ethics.

INSTANT MBA: OpenSky CEO Says Leaders Should Run Their Businesses Like An Orchestra
I love this article and I feel like it is 100% correct. So many entrepreneurs think that they are the only ones that can make their business successful and follow the motto, "if you want something done right, you must do it yourself". However, this article explains that that is not what being an entrepreneur is about. Instead, they must be able to direct their employees so that they can make the business successful. I love the analogy that is used in this article. An entrepreneur should be like a music conductor. The conductor always has their back to the audience but they are the ones that make everything run smoothly and helps everyone else shine in the spotlight.

INSTANT MBA: OpenSky CEO Says Leaders Should Run Their Businesses Like An Orchestra
I can understands John's point of view when he said a great leader empowers people. There is a difference between empowering people and telling people what to do. Empowering people entails the leader putting them self in the employee's shoes and motivating them by giving them a "destination" some visual desired point to reach in the future. I could disagree with the orchestra analogy by saying the leader must also face the audience paying attention to their customers not just their employees. Leadership is different than entrepreneurship. To me, entrepreneurship is a way of being innovate and seeing a desired outcome for themselves or the organization, while leadership is more focused internally on the organizations intangible assets, it's people.

OpenSky CEO Says Leaders Should Run Their Businesses like an Orchestra
The orchestra is a great example used to explain leadership. This article gives a vivid image of so many different personalities, among other things, working well together and complementing each other. I used to be in band and I remember not feeling so confident, but when everyone else was around me, it made me feel strong; we came together as one. Every business should have a strategy to work together. As an employee, I look for a leader to set an example for me to follow and guide me. I have mentioned this many times, but everyone I work with is so beyond different! Every instrument has their own song, but when we look to the leader we make something so much better that makes sense. Overall, I loved this article because it says something important that can be broken down into other aspects.

The orchestra example is a great comparison that is applicable in many aspects of business. When being a leader, you should be mostly focused on your team and their needs and striving to make them the best that they can be so that the business can run smoothly. Leadership skills are very important in business, a good leader can take a company all the way while in turn, a bad leader can cause a huge problem for companies. A leader is over a team for a reason, one person can't do all of the work, everyone must work together so that their output will be of quality that is acceptable to the consumer.

INSTANT MBA: OpenSky CEO Says Leaders Should Run Their Businesses Like An Orchestra
Being a leader is a very important role. To have a group of individuals work together as a team, there needs to be some type of leadership. The example in the article is a great one. It shows how important it is to have good leadership to have everyone working together. Team work is an essenial part of having a business be successful. The quality of team work that comes from a group of individuals depends on how well of a leader the group has. If the leader is worried about having everyone come together for the better of the company then the company is better off. If a group has a leader that is more worried about themselves then the group as a whole, then things can get really out of hand. Great leadership is a huge asset in a company.

INSTANT MBA: Open Sky CEO Says Leaders Should Run Their Businesses Like An Orchestra
Leadership is very important in business. It is a skill that is mostly debate whether it is acquire or inherent, so people are always good at, and some straggle with it. By comparing it with Orchestra the author make it easy to understand because a leader serve the same purpose as conductor, as the conductor lead the flock of singer so to leaders lead the employees. The ability to unite employees together is a very important skill for the leadership because the it affects the business operation and the success of the business in general.

INSTANT MBA: OpenSky CEO Says Leaders Should Run Their Business Like An Orchestra
I completely agree that managing a business should be approached like conducting an orchestra. The manager is important in that they are not necessarily always the focal point of what a customer sees or the image of the end product, but they make sure that all of the moving parts of a business deliver on the end goal. A good manager should be the driving force behind the synergy and harmony of a company.

INSTANT MBA: OpenSky CEO Says Leaders Should Run Their Businesses Like An Orchestra
OpenSky's CEO explains that entrepreneurs are't exactly the same as leaders. He describes the difference as leaders lead a team to achieve the goals of a business while an entrepreneur builds the business and creates the goals. In order to be both, one must focus on the collaboration of employees at all levels and not so much on customers. The leader should make it so that everyone in the business works together and they can focus on the customer part. I have worked with and for people who were good leaders. I would have to agree with this CEO in that good leaders bring their employees together. Without a good leader, groups tend to not do any where near as well as they otherwise would. Being of an entrepreneurial mindset myself, I believe this information will be beneficial to me if I do ever become a leader of any kind.

"OpenSky CEO says leaders should run their businesses like an orchestra"
By being the conductor (leader), it allows the audience (customers) to see where the music (service/product) is really coming from. This can cause customer loyalty because they see how hard the employees are working to satisfy their needs. It can also give employees a sense of job satisfaction when their customers give them praise. The company needs that strong leader to help guide employees to better service customers.
