Instant MBA: Don't Hire People Who Are Afraid To Fail
Some of the most important character qualities in an employee are being humble, hard working, adaptable, and honest. Most people who arent afraid to fail are all these things, because they HAVE failed at things and not been too afraid or proud to admit it and try again. Its important to always make sure you keep a work environment that is acceptable of these mistakes. Making sure employees feel secure is a huge key in failures being a learning experience rather than a stumbling block.

INSTANT MBA: 'Reply-All' Emails Won't Get The Job Done
As an organization grows, it is very important that everyone is working in the same direction. It becomes even more important to develop a strategy as well as having well defined goals and mission statements. There must be a system in place so that all the goals in the organization trickle down from the top and are tied to the business goals and mission statement. As this happens, it will also be very important for much of this communication to take place face to face through meetings. It is also very important to have meeting strategies and guidelines so these meetings will be effective as well. In my current organization we are sure to use a SPACER to start each meeting. This SPACER will help organize a meeting and make sure that you set a direction for the meeting.

Some people see failure as weakness and if things don't go prefectly the first time then everyrthing is wrong. This is not the actual case. Some of the most successful people have started of by failing multiple times, ansd then went on to be great. If you are afirad of failure then you are afraid of learning. Communication is the key to having a successful business. I think all forms of communication is important but face to face meeting are crucial. This meeting give a chance for employees and leaders to discuss important business related matters. This is also a way for leaders to read their body language as well. A group meeting with employees can also give a chance for there to be democratic voting on important issues that impact the company.

INSTANT MBA: 'Reply-All' Emails Won't Get The Job Done
Although reply all emails are a good source for getting information out quickly to the whole team, they are also incredibly impersonal. If all the company's business is conducted through email, team members may feel unimportant. This could create low morale among the employees. Being seen and knowing your appreciated for your hard work within the company, goes a lot further for boosting morale and making people want to work at that job.

I agree that more fluid communication is important as long as it is useful information. My company now has weekly meetings because of our rapid growth but the information being shared is so pointless it leaves everyone aggravated and less concerned than if we weren't informed as much. I am all for communicating but lets try and not waste each others time. Time is money!

INSTANT MBA: 'Reply-All' Emails Won't Get The Job Done
When running a business it is important to adapt to changes in the company. For example, if you used to have a small business and now have a large business then things need to be done differently. Having a monthly meeting with a small business may not work with a large business. In that case, you should try having weekly meetings. Also, every employee may not need to attend every meeting. Just ask the people that the meeting pertains to come to the meetings.

"Reply all emails won't get the job done" You made a great point that meetings gives the managers to read the body language of their employees. An employee can say one thing verbally, but totally contradict what they are saying with their body language. I think that meetings are good place to feel the energy of your staff, positive, negative, creative, mundane.

INSTANT MBA: 'Reply-All' Emails Won't Get The Job Done
At my Raising Cane's location, we have about fifty employees. Because of this large amount of people, it is important to make sure that everyone is on the same page and has the most updated information possible. In order to insure this, we hold to meetings per day, one per shift. Once all crew members have arrived for the morning shift, the morning manager holds a pre-shift meeting. During this, the manager goes over the goals for the shift, as well as any new company information. The same is done during the night shift, in order to make sure everyone is receiving the information.

INSTANT MBA: 'Reply-All' Emails Won't Get The Job Done It is true emails or messages don't always get the job done. Emails and messages sometimes get over looked or put into a "junk" file without you even reading them. That is why i feel it is better to handle deliver notes to others that are urgent. This will ensure that it is seen and that the message is clear that it is urgent.

INSTANT MBA: 'Reply All' Emails Won't Get The Job Done
The main problem of having a large staff is communication. Having good communication whether it be by daily, weekly, or monthly emails or conference calls, it is important that the lines are open, and there is a good flow of information to every employee. Emails can be an easy way of communicating but it is also important that everyone reads them and reflects what is being said. Once your company grows so big, it takes time and patience to get everyone on the same page. Monthly meetings with employees are important as well to make sure that everyone is on the same page!

INSTANT MBA: 'Reply-All' Emails Won't Get The Job Done
Keeping everyone on track is very important to any business, but sending mass emails will not get the job done. Although mass emails will get short messages across when they are needed, real goals have to be reached by everyone participating and having a part of the company's end result. As discussed in th article, meetings every so often are a good way to get everyone together and talking, and make sure each and every employee has the business' best interest in mind.

INSTANT MBA: 'Reply-All' Emails Won't Get The Job Done
I've seen the point this article makes about communication in my own personal work experience. Our management team communicates through emails daily but we usually have a bi-weekly meeting and discuss the happenings of the restaurant. We had some changes around the restaurant and we couldn't hold meetings for a while because we lost a manager and we all had crazy schedules. Because we weren't holding those meetings there was a major communication breakdown in the restaurant, as we were hardly able to ever see our General Manager. The crew could begin to see that we weren't all on the same page with policies and they began to take advantage of that. Once things went a little crazy, we could see how important these meetings were so that we could all catch up and talk. Simply communicating through email was not enough. We needed these meetings to help discuss problem and make decisions on how to end the problem.

INSTANT MBA: 'Reply-All' Emails Won't Get The Job Done
I believe “reply-all” email does the trick for responses to a singular issue that a meeting isn’t warranted for. If there are several issues that need to be addressed, though, email to all employees isn’t an efficient way of communication. Meetings do much better, because managers are able to read employees’ body language, as well as other nonverbal communication, as well as gathering all the employees for collaborative sessions where there is an open forum for ideas.

INSTANT MBA: 'Reply-All' Emails Won't Get The Job Done
Communication is the most important thing in business. Once your company has more than ten people its tough to get everyone on the same page. If an employee has a question he might be hesitant to ask because they don't want to bother you or make it seem as if they don't understand the email. That is why a schedule and face to face works best it most situations.

My suggestion is as a company grows you should evaulate how you do things. Because they way you used to handle things might not work they same way with more people. As your company innovate the way you do things should innovate as well.
