INSTANT MBA: Don't Spend All Your Time Fixing Your Worst Employee I agree it is not smart to spend most of your time trying to figure out or fix what an employee is doing wrong. sometimes it can be distracting to your other employees and you should consider demoting the employee or assign him or her to another more fitted position for them. Or if possible it may be smarter to join him or her with others so there will be some type of agreement or decisions made as a group rather with that one employee.

Don't Spend All Your Time Fixing Your Worst Employee
Something the article does not mention is letting the employee go. This is good because it means that the employee is valuable to the business and that there is hope. However, I agree that too much focus can be distracting for the business and that instead, it should be fixed as a whole, starting with the group. The thing about group settings that is great is that they hold each other accountable.

I agree with this article but, I do want to point out that you can't fix anyone. All you can do is find out where the problem lies and make changes in hopes they'll adapt to such changes. Encourage those who have fallen behind to try different approaches to doing their job. Working with dead weight employees can be very draining as well as damaging to the organization. In the near future, I hope to encourage my employees to be as open as possible with me and making conditions better for them.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Spend All Your Time Fixing Your Worst Employee
I don't think anyone should spend too much time fixing their worst employee. It is much easier to hire someone that is qualified to do the job. I agree with Mike when he says that People are the foundation of a business and their determination directly correlates with the success of your company. The success of and individual within a company can directly influence their success within that company. A person that is not very success will tend to not care as much as a successful individual.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Spend All Your Time Fixing Your Worst Employee
When dealing with an employee who is not performing up to par, you should focus more on what occurred or is occurring that allowed this employee to perform poorly. Focusing more on the reasons rather than the individual is a better way of reducing the problem. By doing this, the company as a whole can benefit as opposed to one employee.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Spend All Your Time Fixing Your Worst Employee
I agree with this article because I feel that you focus on anything too much then the rest of the things will eventually start failing. If your employee is that terrible to where he/she is affecting your company that bad then majority of the time you just fire rather than wasting time to fix it. But in every company you have a weak link because someone always comes last, but this doesn't mean that he isn't an asset. Focusing on just improving your employees as a whole will boost up the weak link and the top dog to where everything stays equal.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Spend All Your Time Fixing Your Worst Employee
I disagree with this article. I have learned through trial and error that it is important to continually hire. It keeps your employees motivated to improve and never lets anyone become complacent. The method we used at my last job was to constantly hire new employees that we felt had promise and keep a mental grading scale of our employees. The A employees were the best and the F employees were the worst. The goal is to have everyone stay above a C with the A employees being the employees with the ability to move up. You constantly bring in fresh blood and cut lose the F employees so that you do not have the option to waste time with poor performers.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Spend All Your Time Fixing Your Worst Employee
Managers constantly deal with employees of every spectrum. There is always going to be an employee who doesn't perform or execute duties as successfully as others. When an employee is struggling to progress, it is important for the manager to step in quickly and help them out. Sometimes employees just need more time and special attention before they begin to excel. Hiring employees is the most important part of running a business. A manager should look for intelligent, quick learners who are able to work independently without close supervision. If managers spend too much time training an employee they can lose focus of running their business and can lose money.

I would agree with what Castle said. Less your organization is only as good as its weakest leak but you can just focus completely on that person. You want to make them better while also making sure the organization as a whole does better. The well-being of the organization is more important than one employee who comes into work 10 minutes late every day.
