INSTANT MBA: Don't Spend All Your Time Fixing Your Worst Employee
It is unusual when a talented employee starts showing a poor performance suddenly. In this case, managers need to discover the reasons by approaching the worker as soon as possible. A good manager needs to be able to identify and correct employees' performance issues promptly, and a good manager also needs the ability to deal with people with different talents and backgrounds. Usually, negative changes in performance occur because an employee is no longer motivated, and organizations should implement mechanisms, such as anonymous surveys, to regularly hear the employee's opinions about their jobs and the company in general.

Instant MBA: Don’t Spend All Your Time Fixing Your Worst Employee
This article was very informative. In the business field, it is very rare that an endowed employee abruptly start show poor performance. Best way to avoid letting this get any further is to approach the employee or meet up with them. Find out some strategies that will help fix this problem, quickly, because as a manager you do care about them, but you can’t solely focus on their internal disputes. Set up an one-on-one session to get to the bottom of what’s going on, because maybe the answer is staring the both of you right in your faces. There is a good chance that the employee is just a little burned out, and is no longer motivated. Whatever the case maybe, nip it in the bud quickly before it becomes a nuisance to the business.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Spend All Your Time Fixing Your Worst Employee
If there is one bad apple in the bunch, there is no need to focus all your time and energy on that one bad apple when you can be focusing on the whole bunch to make sure that they all don't go bad. As a manager it is very important to focus on the growth of your organization, which includes the growth of your employees. If you have one employee who is falling behind, there is nothing wrong with motivating that employee but don't spend all your time fixing that employee to the point where you basically lose sight of the rest of your employees. So with that begin said, it's okay to try to fix your worst employee but don't spend all your time on that one employee alone, instead find a way to work on your whole team. This article was a pretty good read.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Spend All Your Time Fixing Your Worst Employee This article makes a good point and I never thought of it that way. I always thought that you should try to improve all of your employee performances, even the one who never catches on so fast. Either way it goes, somebody has to be at the bottom of the list so you shouldn’t waste too much time focusing on him, but try and improve the group as a whole hopefully enough to where it picks up the slack from the worst worker.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Spend All Your Time Fixing Your Worst Employee
Poor performance is never natural. Spending time on an individual is not necessary a bad thing. If they start out bad and stay that way, then working with that employee may prove to be useless. However, we are currently working with an employee who has never done us any good. She constantly messes up orders, is rude, and cannot retain any information that we give her. We have spent a full month working up her ability to where it should be and we are finding improvements. She needs to be motivated in ways different from any other employee we have. She also needs to be rewarded more often. And while this may not prove to be beneficial in the long run, it is overly beneficial right now.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Spend All Your Time Fixing Your Worst Employee
I believe that you should give your weakest employee a couple of chances to pick themselves up. After so many tries, you should weed out the employee by cutting down their hours to nothing, forcing them to find another means of employment. This is a more subtle way that my company does rather than up and fire them. Seeing as its only a hourly wage job, it's the fastest and easiest way to get rid of the worst employee. Of course if it really came down to it, and if the associate was acting belligerent, the best action would be to upfront and fire the employee.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Spend All Your Time Fixing Your Worst Employee
It is never a good idea to spend your attention on the weakest link in your staff. Fire that person! If they cannot fix what they are doing wrong after 2 confrontations, they need to be let go. As a manager, it is important to hire people who are ready and capable for the job. Sometimes the interview process does not portray the true ambitions of an employee. This issue should be confronted but not dwelled upon. Instead of trying to spend your time focusing on a weak employee, find a group that is on the break of proper teamwork and allow their cohesion to provide an example for the weaker employee. If the weaker employee cannot catch on, they need to be fired.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Spend All Your Time Fixing Your Worst Employee
I really enjoyed this article. If too much time and energy is spent trying to fix you worst employee rather than focusing on the condition that allows this to occur, you most likely will not be successful. This would also allow the condition to continue to exist and you risk losing more of your employees to poor performance. It is very important to understand the condition and work it to raise the standards.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Spend All Your Time Fixing Your Worst Employee
I think this article is all about efficiency of time. While it isn’t really good to have an employee that brings you team down, it isn’t necessarily a good idea to focus on that employee either. By concentrating on the task at hand, you may realize that the employee maybe wasn’t the main problem to begin with. So instead of jumping to the conclusion that a particular employee is doing a bad job, start with ways to benefit and increase overall performance of the whole team.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Let Ego Distract You From Your Focus
Ego's often distract people from their goals. Stay focused and strive to achieve your goals with grace. Grace will allow others to contribute and help with the goals, while ego's block assistance. Ego's usually isolate. Remember the road that leads you to success, and stay humble. Not everyone gets to be successful by themselves, acknowledge people along the way and be grateful for all the assistance.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Spend All Your Time Fixing Your Worst Employee
I agree with this article. Instead of just focusing all your time and energy trying to fix a bad employee, which I don't think will help anything anyway, you need to see if there's something you can change that the whole team can embrace and maybe this will help the struggling employee out. Not everyone is gonna be as productive as everyone else but it's not gonna do anything if you try to fix the way this one employee works.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Spend All Your Time Fixing Your Worst Employee
Fixing a portion of your business is much more important than fixing one employee. If you spend to much time working with one person, you might lose sight of the big picture. No one employee is worth your business. If they can't hack it, then replace them and move on. If you spend to much time focusing on that, something else might go wrong that you won't even know about because to much of your attention was on the weak single employee.
