By having to many things to do on your schedule, it leaves out time to be able to really focus on one particular task that may need more attention. I believe that having a little free time is important or else it will drive you crazy. I agree with the article. Taking unnecessary tasks off of your to-do list is important.

"Not everything needs to be on your plate"
I can definitely relate to this link. I've been a full-time student for 5 years while working full-time and being in a full-time relationship. I know there are a lot of times when school, work, and life would pile up. What I've had to do is take a step back and figure out what's more important. When I did that, I stepped down from a management role and broken up twice to focus more on school. It's very important to know what the things on your plate that are more important than other things.

INSTANT MBA: Not Everything On Your Plate Needs To Be There
It is important to make sure the tasks you are doing is a good utilization of your time. Of course managers will push to have every little thing done in the smallest amount of time possible, but they do not want you wasting valuable time. Consider the importance of the task and the time it takes to do that task, it the time heavily outweighs the importance then it may be time to reevaluate the task as a whole.

INSTANT MBA: Not Everything On Your Plate Needs To Be There
The fundamental idea behind this topic, in my viewpoint, is to analyze things in your life and your life as a whole. It is important to do this because it will help you set priorities: in other words, it will make you think about the things you need to work more on and things you need to worry less about. This idea is helpful to anyone because by doing so a manager would know how to make his employees work more efficiently without being angry, an employee will know how to make most out of his time and not be fired, a scientist will know what equation he needs to work more on, a person in a bad relationship will know whats going wrong with it....and this list continues.......

Instant MBA: Not Everything On Your Plate Needs To Be There
You have to learn how to manage your time and the amount of tasks you're facing. Everything that you are trying to do might not all need to be done at once. So make you take time to understand what is really important to your business. So if you have too many task on your plate take some off and work on the most important things first.

Russell Bishop people often hold on to do items on their to-do lists because they've always been there. But if they're no longer relevant, keeping them there will just slow you down. Russell Bishop is correct, some people need to learn how to let things go that no longer benefits them. The longer your hold on the harder it become to let go. You can use this in any aspect of life not just in business. That's why I agree with Russell Bishop.

INSTANT MBA: Not Everything On Your Plate Needs To Be There
Piling up a to-do list can be overwhelming. If the list continues to get bigger; you will feel like you can never get ahead. However, if you eliminate the list, or prioritize it, you will be able to worry about the more important things that need to be done. That is important for a business because a manager needs to be sure the important tasks are done in order for the business to continue to grow. It will be less stressful on yourself and on your employees.

"Being overwhelmed and burning out do not have as much to do with all the things on one's plate as with how little those items matter. No one relishes the thought of going to work today to produce another load of "same old, same old." Often times people keep things on their to-do list because it's just always been there. However, if something is no longer relevant, you don't need to keep them there. Getting rid of it with free up your space and let you focus on the things that actually matter.

INSTANT MBA: Not Everything On Your Plate Needs To Be There
I can understand how it can be easy to do things just because we are use to doing them such as checking emails constantly throughout the day or up dating Facebook statuses to let the world know what we are doing. Some of these things are not a necessity for productivity. Managers should try to pass the minuscule tasks down to employees as much as possible. If those tasks are not important than they can be eliminated or cut down on the frequency.

I think to-do lists are very helpful. If I don't write down what i need to do most likely I will forget. So I always write a to-do list because if I don't I will go crazy. It really help me stay organized.

INSTANT MBA: Not Everything On Your Plate Needs To Be There
This is one of the most difficult tasks in which to undertake, determining what is really important and prioritizing them. It is true that some things just do not need to be done. If you continue to push meaningless tasks on people they will become extremely frustrated. In addition, it could be causing them to take time away from important task that they could do more efficiently. Busy work (just for the sake of doing it) drives me crazy. This is a great opportunity to listen to your team and work together to lean out operations to determine what is really important. This will make a person a much better manager by knowing the tasks that are meaningful. I’m the type of person that wants to do it all, but the reality is that it is impossible to do everything. Look hard at your time and how it is spent because once it is gone you cannot get it back – pay attention to the essentials.

Get rid of things that you don't need. We all have to realize that we have to do the important things first. For instance I just started a new job and honestly I have noticed so many things we are doing inefficiently and not taking advantage of the time we have. We have been double working and I will do one thing that takes the entire shift and then the next person takes their entire shift to undo what I just did because management their was no sense of direction given to us. We have to learn what's important and do it right first rather double working and our work becomes pointless.

Doing the same thing over and over again, day in and day out can get really boring to people. It's important that as a manager, you are constantly trying to come up with things that will keep your employees interests sparked, so that they don't get bored with their job. It can be hard to motivate people to work and have fun while doing it, but with the right push by management, it is possible.

INSTANT MBA: Not Everything On Your Plate Needs To Be There
It is always important for an employee to evaluate what they are doing and whether or not it is still relevant to the company. There are a lot of people that do the same thing over and over again everyday because they have always done it this way and they don't want to change. But you have to be able to change and to grow with the business. If you don't learn how to do this and learn the difference between what is important and what is not important then you will be left behind.

When giving an employee work to do or a project to start on, it is important to let them know the part this work will play within the company. No employee wants to come into work every day and do the same thing over and over, never feeling like what they're doing matters. Managers should explain to employees how their work is playing a part in the big picture of the company so they don't get burnt out and bored. Motivation is the best thing a manager can do to keep their employees productivity up.
