INSTANT MBA: Put Your Ego Aside And Realize That You Don't Know Everything
It is impossible for one person to know everything there is about running their business. You must be able to listen to other people and ask for help. Trying to do everything yourself can be overwhelming and also take away time that you will need to run the business. You have to be able to put your pride on the side and let people do what they are paid to do. You have to trust that the people you have hired are prepared enough to do their job.

INSTANT MBA: Put Your Ego Aside And Realize That You Don't Know Everything
Putting aside your ego in your own business can be a daunting task. Since it is your business, your idea, your ship, its really hard to realize that other people may know just as much, if not more, than you do. But, if you do make an effort to realize this, these other people may have some very valuable insight that you can use to make your business better.

This is an issue I think that is very common. Business owners hire people because of their great background and experience but then do not listen to them. This really bothers me and has happened to me many times.

INSTANT MBA: Put Your Ego Aside And Realize That You Don't Know Everything I believe that egos tend to get in the way, a lot. An ego can convince you that you know all there is to know, that you don't make mistakes, and don't need improvement. All in which are totally inaccurate and will make you a horrible manager. As a manager you must be able to listen and actually hear other people suggestions and ideas. Also, I think it is important that as a manager you set the example, if you make a mistake own up to learn instead of trying to hide from it. Explain to your staff what went wrong then ask for suggestions on how to fix it or what procedures to prevent it from happening again. The bottom line is no one wants to be around a know-it-all. If no one wants to be around you as a manager you will begin to chip away at the company's bottom line.

INSTANT MBA: Your Customers Like The Sound Of Their Own Names
My best friend is a stylist and I asked her one day how she gets so many clients. She told me one of the main things is she makes sure to greet them as soon as they walk in the door by their name. It makes them think shes been looking forward to them getting there all day and makes them feel special and look forward to coming again. Everyone likes to feel like the most important person in the room and by simply taking the time to learn their name and say it without having to be reminded what it is will make people feel at ease and that will lead to future business.

INSTANT MBA: Put Your Ego Aside And Realize That You Don't Know Everything
This article has some strong words. While working for a company for eleven and a half years, this was a huge problem. We would have managers come in that thought just because they had a college degree it made them smarter than those of us who had worked for the company for years. I never understood the rejection of our ideas because often times it would have turned better profits. Instead of taking our ideas and trying to use them, the managers would assume we knew nothing because we did not have a degree. I completely agree with this article. You can learn a lot sometimes from just listening and being open minded about ideas.

I have personally dealt with people who are stubborn; even though I consider them to be smart and proactive, they lack of an essential trait: listen to others. More than one thing we can learn from others, and we need to be willing to listen to expand our knowledge and social skills. This is even more important in a business setting because in an organization there will always be diverse people with different backgrounds, knowledge, and preparation.I absolutely agree with this article. Just because you've been able to successfully start a business doesn't mean that you're a world conqueror. You need to have people who are professionals in their fields and you need to listen to them because they probably know more about that particular thing than you do.

INSTANT MBA: Put Your Ego Aside And Realize That You Don't Know Everything
Sometimes it is best if we just stop talking and listen. One person can not know everything so it is best to listen to the people who know what they are talking about. For example, if you work for the sales department of a company and need to do something with financing then the best thing to do is listen to a person who knows about financing. Listening to somebody who works in the finance department will help you more than trying to do it yourself with your lack of finance knowledge.

INSTANT MBA: Put Your Ego Aside And Realize That You Don't Know Everything
I'm noticing that a lot of the articles we are reading are making very similar points as previous articles. This one is advising leaders, or anyone really, to not be afraid to ask for help. Although you may be in a higher position than someone else, that doesn't mean you know more than them, especially if that is there sole job. As it says in the title, put your ego aside, and ask for help. It will help everything to run a lot smoother and more efficiently.

INSTANT MBA: Put Your Ego Aside And Realize You Don't Know Everything
The most successful businesses are not built upon one person. It takes a team of people to implement every aspect of a strong business. You should constantly be listening to your team and people around you to make yourself a better manager and owner. You cannot possibly know everything and therefore should hire people who fill out your weaknesses to better yourself and the business.

Instant MBA: Put Your Ego Aside and Realize That You Don’t Know Everything Everyone has their own story and their own view point. Someone who understand that they are not alwasy right but tries to be the best they can be will go far. These people are open for suggestions. People who have huge egos tend to not be open minded and can lead them to being rude to others because they view themselves as superior.

INSTANT MBA: Put Your Ego Aside And Realize That You Don't Know Everything
I think that this article is a very important thing for business people to read. It is important to get the opinions of everyone around you because no one person is perfect and has all of the answers. You may be a seasoned, experienced business person but it is still important to take the time to listen to those around you because you could get something very beneficial out of the conversation. The person may point out a weak point in the business that you never saw before or give you some inspiration on a new project. You just never know. I think experienced business people in particular have a tough time in this area, they feel that they have seen it all and they couldn't possibly learn anything new from someone who is greener than them, but this is false. A younger person has a different outlook on life, their education is fresher in their minds, and they are more experienced with the younger generation. Its important to get that input in and learn from that person because that perspective is completely different and could be beneficial.

INSTANT MBA: Put Your Ego Aside And Realize That You Don't Know Everything
This is another article about building your team with people that have skills that support yours, not that have the same skills, as that is redundant. This is what I have heard in College Football as the “CEO-type” coach, because they are the figurehead and the end-all for decision-making, but they trust the people they hire to know more specifics about their section, and to report their issues to the CEO. In this case, the CEO doesn’t meddle into issues under their managers. The managers have a plan ready to handle the issues, and the CEO OK’s the plan.

I think the end of the link is the most important: Know a lot of successful people and keep in contact with them. They can teach you things about their skill set that you don't know, and that is hugely valuable to a young manager. As a manager, you need a lot of skills that are sometimes contradictory, so there is no way you can be an expert in all of them. If you surround yourself with good people you can benefit from their experience without having to become an expert yourself.
