"An entrepreneur is also a winning salesperson"
According to this article, I'm a little ahead of the curve. While technically I've never held an official "sales" position, I've worked in the service industry for 10 years. A lot of my job has been to "up sell" menu items and alcohol. At my current job, when a customer asks what I would recommend, I tell them the rib-eye is my favorite food item. This is the most expensive menu item with a huge profit margin so I'm making my company money, and I'm not lying to the customer because the rib-eye really is my favorite item there. I like how the article suggests working in the sales department or get a part-time sales position. This will definitely help anyone become a better sales person. One thing I remembered from marketing class is that we sell ourselves in an interview. We have to explain the logic and benefit of why we should be hired.

INSTANT MBA: An Entrepreneur Is Also A Winning Salesperson
Successful entrepreneurs possess effective sales skills. Managers are constantly trying to "sell" or pitch their ideas to their employees, CEO's and customers. If you are able to convince customers to buy into your product or business, then you have made a sale. Managers are also salesmen when it comes to selling new concepts, procedures and ideas to employees. This article advises entrepreneurs to take the time to gain experience as an actual sales in order to obtain knowledge on how to sell and idea, not just a product. If entrepreneurs are struggling, they probably lack the necessary sales skills involved with being a managers.

INSTANT MBA: An Entrepreneur Is Also A Winning Salesperson
Sale is what makes the world go round. Like it or not you have to be able to sell to succeed in business. In business you are either pushing a product, yourself, your business, or whatever it may be that make you revenue. Without the confident ability to sell, you have no reason to go into business.

INSTANT MBA: An Entrepreneur Is Also A Winning Salesperson
The article sounds very logical to me. In todays world, nobody would buy anything if the person selling it did not know how to sell it. And if you want to be an entrepreneur, it is all about making your business work smoothly; in order to make a business work properly, one needs to know everything about what is being sold, to who it is being sold and what would be the right way to sell it. And, of course, a would-be entrepreneur should work on his/her selling skills.

Jeff Haden "If you think of selling as explaining the logic and benefits of a decision, then everyone in your business needs sales skills. I also think everyone in your business need to be able to sale a product or services. For example, if one of your employees is sick and you need to sale a prodcut to someone, you can lose out on money and a future customer. That's why I agree with Jeff Haden on this quote.

The truth is, being an entrepreneur is like being a full-time salesperson. Instead of only selling a product or idea you're selling your business as a whole. "If you think of “selling” as explaining the logic and benefits of a decision, then everyone—business owner or not—needs sales skills: To convince others an idea makes sense, to show bosses or investors how a project or business will generate a return, to help employees understand the benefits of a new process. etc." That is such a good way to look at it. Sales skills are one of the most invaluable skills you can gain if you want to succeed in the business world. A good entrepreneur has experience in sales.

INSTANT MBA: An Entrepreneur Is Also A Winning Salesperson
I have read this tip in more than one book and it makes sense. An entrepreneur may have the greatest idea in their head but if they need investors or motivated employees then they need to know how to relay that idea in a meaningful way. Sales skills help us communicate from the other persons' point of view. Being in sales one will learn how to put them self in the other persons shoes. Once this perspective is gained we can manage the conversation and know when dialogue is at risk. This will also help stay focused by better understanding the person we are talking to.

Having sells skills are every important. Think about it. If someone comes up with a great idea, but couldn’t tell you how it will generate money and profits, how will they get investors? You can’t just be able to come up with ideas. You need to know how to sell them too. You have to make people interested in wanting to be a part of your project.

I must admit this is very much a true concept. I have heard many people talk about not wanting to be salesmen but want to open their own business. What do you think you will do when you open that business? Sell it! Otherwise you will slowly fade into obscurity. I was self employed for nine years and I assure you it can be exhausting. If you think about it, though, we sell every day in our personal lives. How good are you? Watch yourself and see.

I just began a job in retail and we focus a lot on selling. We don't just sell clothes. We have to sell clothes, credit, and different types of discount cards. Selling is one of the greatest skills that we learn in business. In business we have to sell constantly. We are always trying to promote ourselves over another company or another person. We have to be the best at what we do.

Knowing how to sell something is an important skill to have for nearly every job. You may not be selling a product, but you might be selling yourself for a service, or something along that nature. Being able to convince people that you are the right person for the job or that you can provide the right product is something that nearly any business person needs to be able to do, and it is important to build that skill and learn how to be better at it as time goes on.

I think that everyone has to have good sales skills in order to convince anyone of anything. A mother has to be able to convince her child that doesn't want to go to sleep at his bedtime and a boss has to be able to convince his employees that the decision that he made was the right one. I think that a good leader has to have these skills in order to be able to function in today's business world.
