INSTANT MBA: Know What Your Coworkers Really Think About You
This article discusses a topic that I don't have real experience with from that perspective. I have never managed before, but I would imagine that if my managers now caught wind of what some employees say about them, the managers would try to change their managing style. I think it is easy to lose sight of where you really stand in people's eyes when you do not have any feedback from employees.

"Nothing’s more helpful than finding out how others see you. If you can conduct that exercise in an impersonal way, you have information you can’t get any other way." This quote is so true. I recently asked some one what they thought of me as a manager and they gave me their honest opinion. They told me that I let things slide a little much compared to the other managers that is why somethings tend not to be done as quickly when I ask. So that opinion helped me to be more stern so I can get the results that I wanted. That is why it is important for you to know what your coworkers think about you.

Coworkers talk behind each other back. Happens everywhere, especially with a group of women. We all do this. But you really need to know what your coworkers think about you. This can help a company to succeed.

When you’re a big business man or woman, it can be easy to lose insight on how you’re acting because you can get a big head. You should always try to take a step back and look at your behavior and attitude in a different perspective. Other people’s, such as your employees or coworkers, opinions on you should be something you should look at and value because that gives you an insight that you can’t get from anyone else. You can learn things about yourself and you can improve your behavior.

Know how they're feeling and know what you can do differently that will make things go smoother. My current manager holds numerous chat sessions with us and it's a good exercise because we talk about many different things. He'll ask if we have any problems or concerns with how things have been going recently and if there is anything extra that he can do that will help that. It's a really good way for him to know how his employees feel and think about him. To be a leader you must really know how your employees feel about you. If no employee respects your thoughts they will not listen to anything you have to say. So you must learn to talk and make sure that all the feelings are mutual on the side of work and keeping a healthy relationship with your co workers makes a work environment much better.

The author points out a brilliant idea. There is no better way to learn about yourself, your flaws and your assets, than to ask those who work with and/or for you every day. It's even better and more honest if those who are answering the survey of questions about you are allowed to remain anonymous. That way, they are more likely to answer honestly. My mom gives out surveys to her students at the end of each school year to find out what they thought of her as a teacher, what they liked/disliked most about the class, and what they would change (if anything.) She tells her students they are NOT to put their names on the papers and she doesn't give them out until the last day of school so that the students feel comfortable filling out the surveys. She says she learns a LOT this way and that this one activity has probably helped her more than anything else she's done as a teacher. I think as a new teacher, I'm going to follow her plan. I'm sure at the end of my first year of teaching, I'll learn MANY things that I may and/or may not want to know! I do know, though, that it can do nothing but help me improve in my field.

I think this is an excellent form of feedback. It really allows you to examine who you are as a manager and how you can better your style to fit the business. If you are aware of the perception people have of you, the more likely you will be able to manage situations better. If you know how people feel about you it may be easier to fix situations in the long run. It may bring to light a different way of handling different situations and can definitely be a positive change for the business.

I agree with this link because it is important how employees view their manager. If employees are afraid of their manager it can reduce productivity, and this can also happen when they don't like the manager. Knowing what your employee is thinking is one of the jobs of management, so that customers and employees can be happy. If the employee feels as if they are not being respected than they may let some of their frustrations out on the customer.

Beers makes a great point in this article. With great power comes great responsibility, As a boss of a company you should be a leader and inspire your employees. As a boss you should listen to your employees, because they are the company and great employees can make the company great and bad employees can lead the company to failure.

What your coworkers think of you is obviously a direct reflection of how you work alongside them. Getting a review from your fellow workers can help you assess your self and how you carry yourself at work. Of course no one wants a boss or employee who is too uptight. Also a leadership style that is more intimidating than encouraging can create a stressful environment that could just lead to errors or the decline of a business.

Knowing what others think about you, especially your subordinates, is important in business. If you know how they feel, you can see where some of your strengths or weaknesses are. You can continue doing the things that your workers like about you, but you can work on the weaknesses. If you work on some weaknesses and become more likable, your workers may possibly want to work for you. Nobody likes to be bossed around, so making adjustments to become a better boss can help you and your company.

It is important to be aware of what others think of you. Managers sometimes do not realize how they are treating the other employees. They tend to be too snappy or become too comfortable in the position they are at - in charge. Keeping an open, friendly atmosphere is imperative to create an environment that people want to work at. Employees should be able to give opinions about their employers without being threatened. This can be a reality check to managers and gives them the opportunity to realize things that they might not otherwise.

It is important for co-workers to be able to get along and work together so that a business can run smoothly. For that reason, it is important that you know how your co-workers perceive you in the work place and what they think about you. From experience I have found that not knowing how your co-workers view can lead to a variety of problems even legal issues such as sexual harassment. Even if you are joking with a coworker if they think of you a kind of person who would make advancements on co-workers they may feel uncomfortable and report the incident leading to much bigger problems than you imagined.

I think that this article addresses an important subject. It is so exciting when you get a promotion at work and gain more power. However, it is important to remember to not let these things go to your head. Everyone has started from the bottom of the totem pole, including you. You should remember this and still treat others with respect no matter what level they are. Sometimes you are not aware of how you are coming off or how others are perceiving you. Therefore, it is important to try to find out how others feel about you and how you are treating people, because it may be the case that you need to change the way you are managing people.

I love this article. I've had to correct how I was acting a few times when I was managing at my last job. I accidentally overheard some of my employees say that I was a "<expletive deleted> buster." When I really started to observe how I was acting, I really was. I was expecting too much of my employees, and I wasn't talking to them properly at closing time while I was checking on their work. Once I corrected this, I noticed an increase in moral and productivity. Knowing what your coworkers and employees really think about you can help you manage nd work with them more effectively. You don't need to be their "friend" technically, but be able to work along side them, rather than them working with or for you.
