INSTANT MBA: Too Much Teamwork Can Kill Creativity
I believe that this article does have some truth to it. I do like teamwork and I think that many companies can benefit from teamwork. However, there is a chance that teamwork can hurt a company. This is usually when a group comes together and they all start thinking the same and do not challenge one another. This is called group think and can be deadly for companies. I still think that teamwork is a good think within a company, however, there are things that should be done. For instance, you should make sure you put together diverse groups so that you can avoid group think.

"Too much teamwork can kill creativity"
I find that creativity goes hand-in-hand with imagination. By only focusing on teamwork and getting the job done, there really is no imagination or creativity in it. Just simply getting the job done. Of course that's a good thing because you want productivity with your employees, but you want to make sure that they are thinking outside the box and using their own individual opinion. Teamwork really should just be about collaborating different individual ideas and opinions.

Brainstorming for great ideas separately before joining together as a team could be part of a solution to this problem. When working in a team, I think it is important to not lay all the ideas on the table, whether they be crazy or not, and to not immediately throw them out. However, by working in a team, it's easy to accept one idea even if you may not truly and completely agree with it. It's easier to nod your head in agreement, than to suggest other ways of executing a task. I believe it is crucial to be completely honest when working with a team.

INSTANT MBA: Too Much Teamwork Can Kill Creativity
The reason teamwork can kill creativity is because many ideas are overlooked or consolidated into one idea. It is important to incorporate individual ideas and for a collaboration over collectivism. Many times when working in teams or groups, the more outspoken individuals are able to express their ideas over the passive people. It is important for employees to feel free to engage in brainstorming and have their ideas taken seriously into consideration. Managers should take the time to test out various theories and ideas from diverse groups, not just the same people's ideas every time.

INSTANT MBA: Too Much Teamwork Can Kill Creativity
Something I would like to add to this article is that too much teamwork can create laziness. I often see that when numerous people are put onto a project that people begin to slack off. Sometimes group members will allocate the brunt of the work to one or two of the member while they handle the easier things or do nothing at all. It is important to establish a need for individual success as well as group success.

INSTANT MBA: Too Much Teamwork Can Kill Creativity
In a team creativity is a must but sometimes to much teamwork can cause group think. You want to make sure ll your team mates are participating and putting in there own input. If you just go with the flow and never have your own thoughts creativity can be lost. Be sure to be creative and bring something to your team. Do not just always agree with your team but bring your own ideas to the table.

INSTANT MBA: Too Much Teamwork Can Kill Creativity
While teamwork is a very important part of most businesses, too much teamwork will actually hinder a company. If everyone is trained into thinking they have to work together, the company will see far less individual ideas brought forth. Leaders should concentrate on allowing employees to think individually yet also bring their own ideas together and collaborate. By doing this, employees will be able to come with many more ideas while still working as a team.

John Baldoni says, "Teamwork is essential to organizational success but too much teamwork can be deadly." Teamwork can sometimes hurt a success in a business or company but I thing it benefits more than it can hurt your business. Having the right people to form that team is key.

This article made me think differently about teamwork. I guess I never realized too much group activity isn't always a good thing. Teamwork encourages the establishment of collectivism and group think. Instead of coming up with a variety of different and unique ideas, the team unites and not as many good ideas are brought up. "Baldoni says teamwork should be a collaboration which allows team members to incorporate their individual point of view." It does not mean that every idea that anyone says goes but it does mean people can contribute their ideas and point of view.

INSTANT MBA: Too Much Teamwork Can Kill Creativity
Group think is a definite concern for those who work within teams. It is important to keep ideas fresh. It will take the concentrated effort of a leader to encourage individual ideas within the team and to facilitate creativity. A team environment should be closely observed to ensure its successful productivity. A strong leader will work to eliminate collectivism and encourage individuality; however with the lack of a strong leader, a team could become a weak link. I must admit, though, team work could be eliminated from all college classes and my feelings would not be hurt.

INSTANT MBA: Too Much Teamwork Can Kill Creativity
Too much team collaboration does lead to group think as Baldoni says. He explained this topic very well. Team work is great for getting a mixture of ideas but there must be an atmosphere where members of a team feel comfortable sharing their thoughts. Some times this can mean team members work on their ideas individually and discuss them as a group. How ever individuality is accomplished there must be the right mixture between team work and individuality to avoid group think.

Baldoni is right. Team members should come up with an idea separately. Then, they should come together to discuss the ideas, and get feedback. That way you can have more than one idea to choose from.

I agree with this article. I think that teamwork is something that can benefit a company very much, because not only is it pulling everyone's ideas and skills together, but it is also developing a chance for the employees to communicate with each other and learn their strengths and weaknesses. However, too much teamwork can result in less ideas made which could have been done individually, so it's important to know a stopping point in teamwork.

Instant MBA: Too Much Teamwork Can Kill Creativity
I agree with this article. Although in this day and age teamwork is encouraged among employees, I think that employees should be allowed to brainstorm by themselves and then come together and report their findings. This way everyone has their own ideas and the group can tell the individual what they think about the idea. Teamwork and lots of group meetings and colaberations can sometimes cause groupthink and lots of good ideas are looked over in favor of consensus with the group.

While it is important to have teamwork, the article makes a good point about the idea of having too much teamwork. By creating teams for a certain project, a group of unique ideas and opinions come together to analyze and successfully complete the project in an efficient manner. Although, too much teamwork can make employees get into a mindset where they think all work is a group effort. Too much group work can cause there to be a stall in creativity and original ideas. Within group work, there must still be individuality for there to be new ideas on the table.
