A winning mindset is a good thing to have in business situations. It is good to have a common goal to work toward as a company but in midst of the common, big picture goal, there should also be smaller goals set that will get the company closer to the ultimate goal but are easier to reach. These smaller goals, when met, will make the employees feel accomplished and put them into the winning mindset.

To those that know me we'll, I've always been label as an overachiever. Why settle for being average or do just enough to get by. There's so many opportunities that are surrounding you but, you choose not to go the extra mile. Always set goals that are attainable and have a goal date to accomplish this goal. I remember in one of my finance courses, we had a guest speaker, who spoke about the importance of having goals. He told us to break them down in increments and carry them every where you go. Set the bar high so, that it motivates you to challenge yourself but, no so challenging that it seems impossible.

Set reasonable goals. This link talks about the importance of setting achievable goals so that employees won’t be discouraged by an unrealistic goal. When you set realistic goals, employees are more likely to reach them and, sometimes, even go past them.

Don't Set Goals That Are Too Hard To Reach
Before setting a goal, make sure it is realistic. There are things that to others, it is realistic, but for one, may not be and vice versa. No one person is the same; that is the mindset we should have about goals. Having a big goal that is unrealistic to one is a set up for failure.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Set Goals That Are Too Hard To Reach
I don't agree entirely with this article. I think setting goals that are hard to reach require you to push as hard as you possibly can to reach them. The goal should still be obtainable and not outrageous but still not easy to reach. If it is easy to do than there is no real drive or motivation to push for it. I've heard it said, "shoot for the stars and in the worst case you'll end in the mountaintops." I like the saying and personally follow this take on goal setting.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Set Goals That Are Too Hard to Reach
I agree with this link mostly because I agree with setting goals a little bit at a time. Not too easy to where it isn't a challenge, but just enough of a challenge in order for the employee to feel that they have actually achieved something, and then set the bar for the next goal after that. People like to feel that they have accomplished something. Setting goals that aren't so far fetched can challenge and employee, but still make them feel positive about the work they are doing for the company.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Set Goals That Are Too Hard To Reach
Perseverance is an important factor when reaching towards a goal. When striving to accomplish/achieve a goal, sometimes it is important that you fail or have a hard time reaching that goal. This will make a person appreciate obtaining that goal and it will also be a great lesson learned.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Set Goals That Are Too Hard To Reach
This artilce had some very good pointers about setting goals. When you set goals that can't be achieved in a short amount of time, you lose focus and willpower. It will seem exhausting to try and reach big goals without having some middle ground. This is why we set day by day goals and work with that. There are major and big goals in the works, we just focus on the day to day goals that will help the company make steps to the bigger goals.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Set Goals That Are Too Hard To Reach
Setting goals that are too hard to reach are sometimes disappointing at the end, because the results may not of have been what you have wanted. However, if the rewards at the end are huge and you feel worthy of your high goal that you set and reached will make you excited. So one has to decide whether to go big or whether to go small and see what kind of demand they are working with in order to pursue their options. Once can learn from this article that setting goals that are impossible are a waste of time and just a dream, but if reasonable than the dream can be accomplished.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Set Goals That Are Too Hard To Reach
The best goals are ones that are achievable. When a company sets goals that aren't possible to reach, they are setting their employees up for failure. Employees' recognize when goals are just not reachable and this can bring on a negative mindset. A company does not want their employees to have that negative mindset. You should want your employees to continue to work hard and to reach goals and for this to happen, these goals must be set rates that they can achieve. I really liked that the article hit the subject of the employees. When you hire individuals that want to win, they will continue to work hard to win.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Set Goals That Are Too Hard To Reach
I agree to some extent but I also think that you should strive for greatness. I have always set high goals for myself because even if I don't reach them I have still done a good job. I think goals should be realistic but challenging and not always obtainable by all employees.

I don’t really agree with this article because I feel like when you set any goal in life that goal should be your main focus and the only thing you are trying to conquer and once you achieved that goal then you move on to the next one. You shouldn’t set a goal and work yourself all extra hard to drive past that goal because if you were going to drive past the goal you set, why would you set that goal in the first place?

64 INSTANT MBA: Don't Set Goals That Are Too Hard To Reach
I agree and disagree with this article. Yes you don’t want a goal that is unobtainable. However you want set the bar high so you are striving towards something. People need a challenge sometimes to avoid becoming bored. Say you are football team in college, and you play all easy teams and there is no challenge it doesn’t mean as much as beating a big name school, with a great football team. May the goal hard but do not make it impossible.
