Setting goals that are too hard to reach can set you up for failure. I think it's important to set smaller goals achieve those one by one to get to the bigger goal. By setting up smaller goals that are easier to reach, it gives someone more self confidence and determination to get it done.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Set Goals That Are Too Hard To Reach
If you set goals too high, there is more room for failure. It is more effective to set small goals in increments from week to week rather than have a main goal for the month or even year. Setting achievable goals allows for employees to become focused and competitive. Setting unreachable goals will lead to discouragement and frustration from employees. It is important to recognize when you are winning and when you are not winning, make adjustments to your goals. Employees are more likely to be over-achievers on their own and do not respond well to pressure.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Set Goals That Are Too Hard To Reach
I totally agree with this article. Setting unattainable goals can be damaging on the firm's part. Employees may stop working in their best capacity because they know that the set goal is unattainable. Also, it sets negative tone in the firm's overall environment. Therefore, it is very important to set goals that are attainable. Moreover, firm should have a set strategy and work plan to get to that goal.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Set Goals That Are Too Hard To Reach
This article makes a good point. Some companies set unattainable goals in the belief that employees will strive to that goal and reach the real goal that the boss is after. The only problem with that is that it gives employees a sense of failure. When they constantly do not reach the goal that feeling of failure sets in. Set goals that are attainable and when they are reached consider it a win.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Set Goals That Are Too Hard To Reach
You never want to set goals that are out your reach. This can be counter productive and mess your business up. Make small goals and then reach them. Inch by inch it's a cinch but mile by mile it's a pile. So never set unreachable goal but instead make realistic goals that are achievable.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Set Goals That Are Too Hard To Reach
While some believe that setting extremely high goals is key to employees to work hard, Addante would disagree. Instead, leaders should create goals that are achievable in a reasonable amount of time. You will always have some employees who have a super motivated drive to reach goals. When they feel as though they are winners, it creates a contagious effect that makes everyone around them feel like winners. So by having everyone feel like a winner, employees will be more excited about working to reach mroe goals.

Frank Addante basically says in this article is do not set goals too hard to reach. I totally agree with Frank Addante because if you set hard goals that you will never reach, and keep failing them you may look at yourself as a failure but basically all you doing is setting too hard of a goal on your self. Take it one step at a time. That's why I agree with Frank Addante.

I could not agree more with this article. Setting goals that are too high and not achievable is the worst thing to do. Your employees are not going to be motivated to want to achieve something that is not within reach. After reading Switch, I learned a lot about setting goals. When you set goals that are small and reachable, your employees with most likely succeed them. Once they start achieving those little goals, they will be motivated to continue to succeed. They will feel positive and focused. This will also help others around them want to do well and be successful too. Winning is a contagious thing, so make sure your employees spread it.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Set Goals That Are Too Hard To Reach
Setting goals is not as easy as it seems. If they are set too low they become meaningless, yet if they are set too high they become discouraging and cause frustration. Keep in mind, those who do not set goals and work to achieve them are probably not the type of people you want to hire. As a manager, I would want a person who sets their own achievable goals in which to meet the requirements of the project.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Set Goals That Are Too Hard To Reach
I am sure we can all agree that setting goals too high is not as motivating as setting a manageable goal. In order to achieve a goal full force we must believe that it is possible. Goal are not meant to be dreams, they are merely marks to reach. I agree with Addante's advice about setting goals that are achievable and hiring good people. With the right people any goal is achievable but manageable goals are easier for those same people to motivate others.

Addante is right. Why set high goals when your team is winners. If your team is winners they will achieve goals fast. They have hunger to want more. Which means they are always ready for the next challenge.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Set Goals That Are Too Hard To Reach
I totally with author 100%. Whether you are setting individual or company goal, setting smart achievable goals is important. Setting too high goals are not motivating to employee. If goals are not achievable employees get tired, bored, and discouraged to work more harder. As a manager, you need to set company goals break down the goals and let each employee set their own goal. When employee set their own goals they work hard to achieve knowing that they put themselves accountable for their own goals.

Achieving goals as a company is something that will give pride and excitement to the employees, as well as yourself as a manager. It is important for the goals not to be too far-fetched that it seems like they can never be reached or that it will take multiple years to complete. Small goals that benefit the company are enough to keep people motivated, and that's something that all managers need to keep in mind.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Set Goals That Are Too Hard To Reach
Most goals that are set for a company should be obtainable. If a goal is set too high and no one can reach it, then that would be discouraging to the employee. Setting some obtainable goals will help employees to get to those goals more easily and will make them want to tackle the harder goals that the company has set for itself.
