Instant MBA: When You Focus Too Much On Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost. The article explains the idea that being focused on something is good, but "laser focusing" will lead to isolation from the outside world. Setting a goal and trying hard to achieve it is important to succeed. But, this does not mean that you should avoid everything else in the outside world. As a matter of fact, outside world can be very helpful in generating new ideas and innovating new things. Thus, focus on your goal but do not forget there's a whole wide world outside that's waiting to teach you something new everytime.

Instant MBA "When You Focus Too Much on Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost" Link of the Day 5 Comment: Here is where reality sets in…. People love fun people. Managers like fun people (kind of – this is debatable actually – but let’s roll with it), friends like fun friends, kids like fun teachers, customers love fun CSR’s, and the list goes on and on. The point is, lighten up! No old sludge brain codgers ever meet new friends or had cool ideas! Enjoy yourself and be PASSIONATE (remember the previous link of the day) about what you do. You never know – maybe you’ll have a cool fluorescent, pink, shiny, self adjusting light bulb go off about your wonderfully red highlighted hair!

When You Focus Too Much On Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost This is something that relates to the first link of the day. Tunnel vision can often be fought by an opposing partner, if you have the right one. Which is why it is important to find a partner who is your number one critic, with two opposing views, new ideas are created constantly. Tunnel vision is a known project killer, so it is very important to step back sometimes and really think about what you're doing. If you can't remember the last time you went home to feed the cat, you definitely need a break from work.

INSTANT MBA: When You Focus Too Much On Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost
Every now and then complete focus on a project is necessary to complete the task at hand. However, becoming completely consumed may be a bad thing. Say you are stuck on a specific task and decided to take a break, and while taking that break say you talk to a friend who inadvertently gives you a clue to figure out the task you were stuck on. You would have never had that friend's input if you had not decided to take that break.

Instant MBA: When You Focus Too Much On Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost
I like this link of the day because I can relate to it. Having laser focus is something that I believe in but it has to have a equal balance. Work and play should go hand and hand because you should be doing what you love. Being focused on your goal and not straying from your path is great but like this link said it could be more harmful then helpful. In my opinion an equal balance of work and play is the way to go.

Instant MBA: When You Focus Too Much On Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost
When being successful is your goal, determination may end up hurting you more than helping you. We are all human. We were not put on this earth to do work and only work. We need time for fun and entertainment. Focusing on something too much can mess up not only whatever it is you may be working on, but also relationships. To solve this problem a person can set up a schedule. It reminds me of studying for finals. Students study for hours and hours. Some students may not even sleep during finals week. From personal experience, if you study a chunk at a time and take breaks, your brain doesn't go in too overload. Also, its helpful to switch subjects as well. That way you have something new for your brain to focus on and by the time you return to that first subject, you are more likely to retain the information you need to know.

Instant MBA: When You Focus Too Much On Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost
Tara realized that becoming too focused on one thing can limit your sources for inspiration and ideas. If we become focused, we very easily over look things that might be useful to us. The proof is as evident as the fact that some fortune 500 companies have to hire special people to come up with creative ideas on how to be innovative for them. When I have had presentations to give in class, towards the due date I often become too focused on what I am going to say and the manner in which I will present. I forget to study the way others, including great presenters, give their presentations and how it makes people react. If I had not have focused so much on myself, I might have picked up a few good tricks. Looking forward, i plan to be less focused on doing things only the way I already know of, and be more open to outside inspiration and tips so that I might better deliver a presentation, service, and/or product, etc.

As Tara mentioned determination and dedication is essential to grow a business. As we all know, too much of anything is not good which means lazer focus is not healthy, to our business and lives. The economy is constantly changing creating demand shifts and businesses should be constantly plug into society in order to foresee those changes. We all need family and friends in our lives to stay healthy and they should be rather important compared to our work. With the right mixture of a social life, determination, and dreams we can all be excellent in business and be sociable people gathering new resources and ideas along the way. In my opinion tunnel vision is one reason why companies hire external agents to research on marketing campaigns. It is healthy to get an external opinion on one's business. Using an external source can alleviate more time for management tasks.

The message that Tara Hunt is trying to convey in this article is the importance of creativity while not staying solely focused on your own business. When you are completely enveloped by your own work you forget to pay attention to those things around like changes, competition, and innovation. She does mention how determination and dedication are definitely good traits to have, but can ultimately lead to the derailing of a business. Everyone can relate this to a time in their personal lives. Before you might have intently focused on completing or finishing a task and been so transfixed that everything else around you is opaque.

Instant MBA: When You Focus Too Much On Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost
This article makes a great case for maintaining a healthy work/life balance. By opening yourself up to new experiences outside of work, fostering relationships with family and friends, and making sure to get some "me" time, you benefit more than just keeping yourself sane. You also keep your mind fresh to do a great job at work and are more likely to stay motivated when you do work. Life experiences can give you ideas to implement at work too. I like to remind myself that I work to live, not live to work. This may be different for people who are really passionate at what they do, but is still a good principle to live by.

This article points out that being over focused can be bad. Over focusing on one thing or goal can unfortunately lead to stress and a disconnect from family and friends. Whenever you are on a big project or trying to solve a problem at work stepping back and getting some fresh air can help. Talking and venting to your friends and family allows you to pull ideas from a different mindset or opinion. These ideas sometimes can help you with your project and get you back on track.

This article talks about getting so caught up in your business that you lose sight of everything else. It definitely makes sense that creativity as well as relationships will fall off the deep end. When you start isolating yourself from family, friends, and your own health your business will slowly become mediocre and begin to drop. It's important to keep creativity levels high and always have new innovative ideas. Having a support system behind you will benefit you and your business in more ways than none. Try not to give them the cold shoulder because you need them more than you know. And as far as your waistline, try not to let that go either.

Instant MBA: When You Focus Too Much On Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost
I feel that this article has a lot of truth to it. In many cases we get so caught up in our goals and what we are trying to accomplish that we lose sight of why we wanted to accomplish those goals in the first place. The article states that family and friends are often a persons muse when it comes to new ideas and inspiration, and I completely agree. When you start missing out on time with family and friends you tend to lose that passion and creativity that you can get from an exciting life. Also, when you focus on your goals and what you want to accomplish so much, it can cause you to get in a rut. Instead of thinking outside the box and being excited about what you are doing, you are just going through the motions to get things done. Therefore, people would do better by not spending all their time focusing on their business.

INSTANT MBA: When You Focus Too Much On Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost
Being focused on your job is good. But not having any down time to not thing about just that particular job can hurt the creativity. Some ideas happen when you are not thinking about your job. Also if you are only focused on your job, you probably will stop networking. Talking with friends/co workers, even family members, might help you get some different point of views, which you can then apply to your job. They could even be more efficient and better ideas than your own. It is important to not always stay caught up at work, or you will lose your creativity.
