Instant MBA: When You Focus Too Much On Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost
Creativity is one of the most important traits to have not only for your business but also for yourself. If you get to a point when you're constantly obsessing over your business then you begin to lose sight of what you want your business to be. Sometimes it's best to just take a few steps back and look at what you've done and ask if this is the way you want it to be. Losing creativity is something you and your business can't afford to have happen because it will cause your business to fail and it's likely to have negative affects in your personal life.

Instant MBA: When You Focus Too Much On Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost
After reading this article, it reminded me of some of my art classes. They talk about how the right side of your brain controls creativity and how the left controls computational operations. They would tell the class to not think about any of the other "math" related classes and relax. They found that for them, when they would try to use both sides of their brain they were not as creative. Seems logical for not only art but for business as well. Modern business has become very competitive and if you don't innovate you won't have a good chance at success.

Instant MBA: When You Focus Too Much On Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost This article speaks volumes, I believe that in everything that you do you have to have a balance. I make sure I have balance in everything that I do because I have been in that place where all I did was work and I ended up losing my spouse. That was a hurtful thing and that is why I believe it is important that you take a vacation, laugh and talk with family, or even go to the park and swing (thats what I do). You need time to rejuvenate your mind and body so you can be more excited about what you are doing, and when you are excited you can be more creative.

This article made many valid points. It is great to be dedicated and passionate about your career and business but you should also have time for yourself and family. I love the last line when she said "she also lost her waist line." In order to be productive, creative, and successful, you must also take care of your self physical and mentally. There has to be a line that is drawn between work and personal time and knowing when and how to do that can make you more successful as well as creative.

Instant MBA: When You Focus Too Much On Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost
I believe that keeping your eye on the prize is very important. It’s true that “laser vision” can be productive, but it turns you into a zombie. Being creative in your workplace creates a difference in the everyday routine. One company that comes to mind is Google, who has a spiral slide in the lobby of their headquarters going from the 2nd floor down. This type of creative lifestyle makes it easier for the workers to enjoy their workplace and not feel overwhelmed. Keeping an open and creative mindset allows you to focus on your job at a healthy pace.

Instant MBA: When You Focus Too Much On Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost
Focus is a positive thing, however tunnel vision may lead to missing out on the bigger and better picture. Too much of anything is not good for you. Having balance in all you affairs is essential to achieve your long terms goals. Also its very important to not let work consume your life, and to find some leisure activities that get you away from thinking about work all of the time

Instant MBA: When You Focus Too Much On Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost
Focus is very important, but as with everything else in life there must be a balance. In the business world and our work life, we are constantly working to balance polarities. As individuals when we are too focused in one direction we run the risk of losing our creative edge as well as becoming burned out. This will actually many times lead to being less effective. If an individual is too consumed with the task at hand to take time and unwind, you will run the risk of losing that focus and drive.

This makes sense to me. Like the article said, focus is important, without focus business cant take off or grow. Business takes a lot of work, and a lot of energy. But business also takes a lot of creativity and new ideas. And any persons biggest source of inspiration is their surroundings, especially other people, and especially loved ones. Spouses and children and loved ones have a way of awakening ones senses in a manner that is nearly impossible without them. So while focus is good, necessary in fact, inspiration is arguably more important. Its at least just as necessary.

I can see how focusing on your business could hurt creativity and innovation. Those are essential for not only start up companies but established ones as well. Creativity comes from your surroundings and by secluding yourself you see all the possibilities. I have been asked from my new employer as a fresh I coming in to assess the process and think of new ways for better production and outcomes of work strategies.

INSTANT MBA: “When You Focus Too Much on Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost.” It is so hard to find balance in so many different areas of our lives, and business is one of them. Laser-focus and creativity are both needed when it comes to business, but finding the right dosage of each is the tricky part. One good way to find this balance is to not necessarily expect both of these traits within ourselves. Maybe you will represent the laser-focus, while a co-worker represents the creativity. Two heads think better than just one. Also, they might find it easier to work towards business goals while complementing each other.

I myself feel as if your laser focused vision becomes too powerful for any long term project it may turn and explode in your face. it is very important to manage your work life and your home life. i do feel as if it is always helpful to do things in your home that help in your work life but never letting your laser focused vision become to strong.

Sometimes, working too hard can be detrimental to your business. According to the article, working too hard can cause you to lose sight of other important aspects in your personal life. These personal aspects, such as going out with friends and family, can cause you to lose your fun and creative side, which can ultimately have a negative affect on your business. Although you might be puting a lot of hard work into your business, you can never lose sight of how you got there. Moral of the storyis to play hard, but work harder.

I can see how over focusing on anything could be damaging. I see it in the restaurant and bar business. The owners are so concerned with getting stolen from or making ends meet that they spend unbelievable hours at their establishments. I have even known some to sleep in the back of their business just because they thought they couldn't get away. That is no way to live life. If you want to start your own business make sure your family can benefit. After all, they are the reason you are doing it anyway.

Instant MBA: When You Focus Too Much On Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost By focusing too much on a job you can really get lost and isolated from things you love while not even trying to. Having passion for your job is great but only thinking about that will drain you, causing you to not be able to think clearly because you’re worried about the next or best decision you should take in order to improve your business. Sometimes the best thing to do is to just walk away and find time to do something to clear your mind. As Tara Hunt stated, she didn’t watch movies that were not job related and stopped going out with friends but that was clearly the wrong approach to take. Getting away from the job will help clear your mind and you never know, a good movie that isn’t job related may actually spark an idea in your head or, while you’re out with your friends, hear one of your friends say something that also may help you come up with an idea.

Instant MBA: When You Focus Too Much On Your Business, Creativity May Be Lost
While it is an excellent idea to remain focused on the task at hand, too much focus can stress a person out. Everyone needs a little down time whether it be from business, home, or just from your everyday life. Vacations are an excellent way to take your mind off of things, and can also help you to regroup. Sometimes staying laser focused as the article calls it, can be a bad thing in more ways than just isolating yourself. Too much focus on a particular thing can lead a person to not being as open-minded as they could be. Looking at things around you and how they work can be helpful in obtaining ideas for your own use. It is a good idea to take your business serious, but at the same time spare some time for taking a break from the business to allow a little fun time.
