INSTANT MBA: 'By Focusing Too Narrowly On Daily Targets, We Miss Opportunities Ahead'
I partially agree with the author of this article. In business, for example as a manager you always need to focus on the big picture and making sure the all the departments are working towards the objectives and missions of the company, but each departments will work toward its own goals which are narrower compare the overall company goals. Also in marketing narrowing a target market is very important but too narrow may not lead to profiting. So, depending on what you mean, narrow can be good or bad.

This article says, "So many times we fall into the trap of focusing too narrowly on our daily targets that we miss the opportunity to notice the more creative answers right in front of us." This statement is so true. Often times we only focus on the task at hand, that we lose sight of the big picture. According to Hwang, you shouldn't just aim for the objective, but you should always be willing to look at the big picture. By believing that luck is on your side, it will be. People tend to think of themselves as unlucky. When they do this, they are missing out on opportunities to be lucky.

I believe it's important to take a step back and view things from further back. It's easy to get caught up on small tasks and getting those done perfectly and completely miss the entire point. I find myself doing this with school as some points during my education. It is much easier to get caught up on one class and getting through it, when in the end it will all be worth it in obtaining my degree.

INSTANT MBA: 'By Focusing Too Narrowly On Daily Targets, We Miss Opportunities Ahead
I find it to be an interesting relation between the "unlucky" and "lucky" people. Whether we think we are unlucky or not we should have a balance between looking ahead and paying attention to the present moment. We could experience negative effects if we are too short sighted or too long sighted. While we handle current situation we should always keep an open mind because the answer or outcome that we are looking for may not always be exactly as we expect it to be.

"By focusing too narrowly on daily targets, we miss opportunities ahead"
I viewed this article like a financial or accounting type person and referenced it to the time value of money. Money today is worth more in the future. Best example would be a student loan. I can borrow 20k for my years of college from the government today. By the time I finish paying them, in about 20 years (haha), the government will have made a lot more than that 20k off of me. The same is said in the business world. By focusing on the problems and issues of today and how to fix them, we lose focus on the bigger picture or future outcome.

INSTANT MBA: 'By Focusing Too Narrowly On Daily Targets, We Miss Opportunities Ahead'
Whenever we focus on things too often with too much detail then we miss other opportunities that could open up for one. In order to balance opportunities and targets one has to know what kind of environment they are facing. If you only for on one target then the opportunity of another target can easily disappear. One can learn from this article that companies have to balance their daily targets by not only focusing on one but all the different targets around.

INSTANT MBA: 'By Focusing Too Narrowly On Daily Targets, We Miss Opportunities Ahead'
When you focus of the small day to day targets you can miss the big picture. You always want to look into the future and look ahead of the day to day targets. Try to pay more attention to the long term goals then the short term. You always want to keep your eyes and ears open for opportunities. If something comes up take the opportunity don't waste it. People get opportunities everyday to succeed but just don't do anything with it. Be better and grab life by the horn and take it.

INSTANT MBA: 'By Focusing Too Narrowly On Daily Targets, We Miss Opportunities Ahead'
Most people are unable to shift their focus from every day tasks to future/big picture goals. This inability to lose their narrow focus causes them to work right passed many opportunities. People who can focus on small goals without losing their main focus on the big picture will notice many more things that can be used to their advantage. Take the group of people who believed themselves lucky vs the group who believed themselves unlucky. Those who believe themselves lucky were able to finish a task quickers because they noticed something that they could use to their advantage that those who believed themselves unlucky did not.

INSTANT MBA: 'By Focusing Too Narrowly On Daily Targets, We Miss Opportunities Ahead'
It is very important for a leader to focus on the big picture. A manager needs to focus on things that will help company grow as a whole rather than focusing on minute details and daily tasks. In other words, a leader should have wide vision and he should try to avoid keeping a narrow vision.

INSTANT MBA: 'By Focusing Too Narrowly On Daily Targets, We Miss Opportunities Ahead'
This article is somewhat humorous and actually quite true. People too often are weighed down by single tasks and it prevents them from seeing the finish line. Without the finish line in sight there is no possible way to get there. Sometimes taking things for what they are "or getting lucky" is the best way to progress.

Rebeca Hwang says, So many times we fall into the trap of focusing too narrowly on our daily targets that we miss the opportunity to notice the more creative answers right in front of us. I can agree with Rebeca Hwang because if you continuously to focus on the task of that day, your mind set everyday is going to be to focus on that task. This can make you miss the big picture of company and why your in business. You need to look ahead instead of focusing on that day.

The term “serendipitous encounters” makes me happy. It just seems cool… where can I have one of these? I always find myself in the unlucky category. I think being too focused on a task can limit many opportunities. I have found that if I just chill out and let things “roll” then they always tend to work out fine, usually better than I could have planned. Some people have the natural ability to look beyond the task at hand, yet some people like myself, must work to make it happen. Life benefits of learning to look beyond daily task can have personal benefits as well as professional.

This article is a great representation of focus. People want so bad to succeed that they get tunnel vision and become narrow minded on their work. They get what they're supposed to get done and nothing else. People who get this way miss the big pictures and other opportunities that arise from working with an open mind. I don't think "luck" has anything to do with it. I think that if employees come into work with the right attitude, ready to get things accomplished, they will be successful.

it’s okay to focus on your mission, but don’t focus so much that you pass up other opportunities. Some things will be in your face. You just have to open your eyes to see it. Lucky people are people that make themselves lucky. If you speak positive, positive things will happen. If you speak negative, negative things will happen.

INSTANT MBA: 'By Focusing Too Narrowly On Daily Targets, We Miss Opportunities Ahead' That a real eye opener for me but my question would be how would you consider your self lucky or not or maybe im just missing the point of the whole thing. I think she want us to look at things in a broader view and not just do with was told look at things for many different angle and alway count your self lucky never think you are a unlucky person becaause everything happens for a reason and work out for the better every time.
