INSTANT MBA: 'By Focusing Too Narrowly On Daily Targets, We Miss Opportunities Ahead'
This was a very interesting article. Focus is one of our main tools to achieve objectives; however, we do need to be able to see beyond the small steps we need to complete in order to understand the direction we are heading to. Even though I don't believe so much in luck, I acknowledge that when people are persistent and believe in themselves, they can be capable of doing extraordinary things. The newspaper study explained in the article is a truly example of how important is to focus on the big picture rather than short-term targets.

It is always important to look at the big picture. When you focus on just the daily task you may miss very important details. I think that the article gave a very good example of how this can happen and how it does happen often in businesses. Many times people only focus on the task that they have to complete. They do not look at the big picture or complete task, just the smaller pieces. When they do this they can miss little details or pieces that are not working. A leader should focus on the big picture and have a team that not only looks at the big picture but can complete the smaller task with accuracy.

INSTANT MBA: 'By Focusing Too Narrowly On Daily Targets, We Miss Opportunities Ahead'
This was a great article. I believe that often times if we get too focused on the daily targets we can miss the big picture. I was recently in a class where the instructor proved this very thing. The instructor told a story about how Native Americans marked the trails with branches to represent numbers and would place markers in random shapes and patterns and ask the class what the number was. He would then give the answer. This went on through several repetitions and slowly students would catch on to the method. Many would go a long time and never catch on to the method. The instructor was simply indicating the number with his fingers each time after the markers were arranged. The shapes and patterns represented nothing and his point was that we need to take a step back and take in the entire big picture as we approach projects.

Instant MBA: By Focusing Too Narrowly On Daily Targets, We Miss Opportunities Ahead This article was very good. We tend to focus on the smaller objectives in front of us, rather than the bigger picture that is ahead of us. As a leader, separating the two will be the most difficult task to accomplish, but being able to distinguish the difference is a must. Employees and bosses alike will always get these confused, but they have to keep in mind that in order to have long-term success, then thinking ahead (taking the future into consideration) is primary.

INSTANT MBA: 'By Focusing Too Narrowly On Daily Targets, We Miss Opportunities Ahead'
The newspaper experiment describe in this article was very interesting. Sometimes we often find ourselves so focused on completing a certain task that we may actually miss an easier way to complete this task. It is always a great idea to have an open mind and always look at the bigger picture. Keeping an open mind will help when it comes to being creative while completing a task. And as far as luck, you should never consider yourself unlucky, you'll only set yourself up for failure. If you believe in yourself you'll always succeed.

It is easy to get lost while "keeping your eyes on the prize". You can have blinders on and begin to shut out everything else, while in turn can miss a great opportunity. If you aren't open or available for greatness at all times than you will definitely will miss out on great things.

INSTANT MBA: 'By Focusing Too Narrowly On Daily Targets, We Miss Opportunities Ahead'
I like to keep all of my options open and won't stray from the big picture. There are major goals that need to be completed by the company and we must keep in mind that it is important. If we focus too much on what has to be done with that day, we won't keep our minds on point with the bigger picture.

INSTANT MBA: Company Chemistry Begins With Clockwork Communication
I agree that company chemistry begins with clockwork communication. This is what bonds employees with management and needs to start at the top and go down to all employees. Employees need communication from leaders to feel involved with the company. They don't all information, but some communication with management keeps employees engaged in the company. The company I work with now is terrible at this. We have very little communication from top management. It's something that I don't like about the company and one reason I will be looking for employment elsewhere after I graduate.

INSTANT MBA: 'By Focusing Too Narrowly On Daily Targets, We Miss Opportunities Ahead'
I sometimes have a problem with giving more steps in completing a project than there needs to be. If I just stop and take a deep breathe I'm always able to slow my roll and figure out the easiest and fastest way to get something done without missing anything in the process.

INSTANT MBA: 'By Focusing Too Narrowly On Daily Targets, We Miss Opportunities Ahead' I like this article because many people only do what their boss tells them to do and nothing more. This is good since they are following orders, doing what they were told, but it doesn't have to stop there. They could try and do things differently for a change that could turn out to benefit the company by discovering a new way of doing things.

When your doing a job, don't just focus on that task at hand. Always look for ways that you can make it better or more innovative. If everybody just did their job the exact way that it was done before them, then we would't be where we were today. Always think of creative ways to make a product or service better or more interesting.

Alt link 58: INSTANT MBA: Company Chemistry Begins With Clockwork Communication
Matthews has founded over 80 companies in his life, and he has the title of "Sir" meaning he was knighted by the Queen of England. Normally if I see a person has had to found 80 companies I say that they must not be very successful, but being a knight tells me that most of them are probably doing very well and that is most likely how he earned that title.

Luck is always on your side if you wish for it to be. By staying open minded and happy, work becomes more of a job than just a day-to-day task. If I go into work in a bad mood, everything that can go wrong, normally does. Especially if its something that hasn't happened before. On the other hand, if I go to work in a great mood, like the world has never done me wrong, then everything runs smoothly and any problems that do come up are taken care of instantly. Life works better when you believe that good is just around the corner.

INSTANT MBA: 'By Focusing Too Narrowly On Daily Targets, We Miss Opportunities Ahead'
It is very important as a manager to keep a strong focus on the big picture. Whenever a person loses their focus on the bigger picture, they begin skipping the minute steps that it takes to sustain success. A manager needs to be able to focus on what is going to make the company grow as a whole as opposed to keeping a narrow vision on the daily tasks at hand. This can come in the form of micromanaging which can cause discomfort in the workplace and has other negative side effects for business.
