52) INSTANT MBA: Fire Yourself If Someone Else Can Do It Better Than You
Trying to find the root of a problem can be hard, but much harder when the problem lies within you. As a manager, it is important to recognize a problem and fix it especially if it is the quality of your job in particular. A manager never wants to be told that they are doing a bad job, but if they are the problem they need to change their focus or get out of the way. Anything that hinders growth in a company needs to be fixed even if it is you. I really like the example he uses in the article explaining that you should take a step back and identify a weakness that could be done better by someone else and fix that problem.

The best customers are the ones that not only comeback, but also refer you to others. The way to get the best customers is to provide the best customer service after the sale. Having a good product is one thing, it will get people to buy it. Service after the sale is the way you get those customers to always want to buy it because they see that they are being taken care of.

INSTANT MBA: Fire Yourself If Someone Else Can Do It Better Than You
Managers can stretch themselves too thin just like anyone else. Just because you started and run the business doesn't mean you have to do every single important thing. As a leader, especially of a small business you started, your time would be best served by looking at plans and strategies for the future of the entire business. Its hard to devote any time to this however, if you are also the secretary, or the book keeper, or the customer service rep, etc. You hired people to work for you, so let them work for you. Spend your time where your time is needed.

INSTANT MBA: Fire Yourself If Someone Else Can Do It Better Than You
Great read. While this is great advice, I think that some managers/owners believe that they’re better at the job than their employees. Don’t get me wrong, there are some employees that absolutely can’t do their job and managers do need to step in. However, when managers do realize that some employees can actually do a better job and get out of the way, it boosts moral and can increase efficiency of the company.

INSTANT MBA: Fire Yourself If Someone Else Can Do It Better Than You
The article explains how if you know someone can do what you are doing better then you should fire yourself. I couldn't agree more with the article. So many businesses could excel in whatever they are doing if they would hire people to do what can't be done. For example, if your boss wanted you to work on a project to improve sales and you had no idea how to do that but someone else does, then you should step up and tell your boss that you think someone else can do a better job. If you are aware that someone else can do what you are doing better then you should let them do it so your business can be more productive.

I could see how this could be a major issue... Normally entrepreneurs have the personalities that demand to be in charge of their idea. But that being said innovators aren't always the best managers. If they cannot realize that in an early stage of their business this could be damaging long term.

INSTANT MBA: Make Your Clients Feel Special For Choosing You
Customer Service is probably one of the hardest professions there is. You are constantly trying to please people and a lot of times some of those people refuse to be pleased. We live in a world of people who feel as though paying for a service entitles them to grab a septor and pull up their throne. no matter how patient, kind, or flexible you may be, the degree of satisfaction a client receives in a customer service situation is directly related to the willingness of that client to be satisfied.

INSTANT MBA: Fire Yourself If Someone Else Can Do It Better Than You
This article is an eye opener to me. When I was working, I wore myself out a lot. I had a bad habit of thinking that no one could do the task as well as I could. I would take on more responsibility than I should have just because I wanted to know things were done to my expectations. By doing this, I wore myself out. It's better to delegate responsibilities and work together, even if you have to change a couple of things later. Just because things aren't done the way you do them, doesn't mean someone else's way isn't better.

Having a average experience at a store, may not get return business, but excellent service will. Some don't understand that delegating to other people will actually help the company and free up time for the manager to focus on other issues. As a business leader it is important to know when the job you are doing is not matching up with your ability to do it. As a leader, especially of a small business you started, your time would be best served by looking at plans and strategies for the future of the entire business.

INSTANT MBA: Fire Yourself If Someone Else Can Do It Better Than You
When I start my own business I think this is something that I will struggle with. I am very type A personality and I think that it is hard to let go of certain projects and trust others to do them well. However, it is a very important thing for business owners to do so that way they can improve the business and coach to what the team is and isn't doing well enough. It also keeps the business owner from getting burnt out from trying to do it all.

INSTANT MBA: Fire Yourself If Someone Else Can Do It Better Than You
Although I have always been taught to keep trying to do something until you do it correctly, I do see the point that this article is making. If you have someone else working for you that could do the job better than you, don't stand in their way. Allow them to do it, and do it correctly, which will make your company run much smoother and allow for more growth. This point does not mean that if you can't do something, push it off on someone else, but if simply allwoing someone to step in and help is better for the company, than that is what should be done.

INSTANT MBA: Fire Yourself If Someone Else Can Do It Better Than You
This would be great if many leaders would follow but many like to handle things themselves instead of delegating the daily tasks. I agree that leaders should be all about the strategic aspects of a company to try and grow it. If a manager feels that their subordinates can't handle the task then maybe they should look into why that is.

Do not think of your self at the best at what you are doing. Successful managers are ones that are able to admit there own mistakes. If you find that someone is better at doing something that what you are, let them do it, instead of you. You want your business to be successful. For it to be successful you need to let the ones that know more about the business run it, rather than you.

As a manager it is always important to understand when someone if better suited for a task. You should always be open to suggestions and criticism. Being open and understandable that others might be better than you will benefit yourself and the company.

INSTANT MBA: Fire Yourself If Someone Else Can Do It Better Than You
This article reminds me of a previous one on micromanagers. Leaders will be unable to lead their company or agency in the future if their daily activities are task-oriented, and require their attention be devoted to work assigned to other employees. While this may require trust on the part of the leader, their time will certainly be better spent elsewhere. Delegation of duties allows the manager to allocate time to supervision and other executive duties.
