INSTANT MBA: 'Be The Leader Who Hops In The Delivery Truck'
A leader should constantly ask employees for inputs regarding how they feel working for the company. A manager could find a lot of room for improvement by just asking employees their opinions about the way a business is being conducted. At the end, the people are the engine of every business, and managers should make sure every employee is satisfied and motivated by being part of the organization. There is nothing wrong about eating lunch every now and then with lower-level employees. On the contrary, this represents and opportunity for every manager to get to know his or her employees better. In summary, this article gives a great advise; leaders should think about spending time on employees' shoes more often.

In order to be an effective leader, you must connect with all of your employees. You should talk with them on a regular basis and find out what is working with the processes that your business ha in place and what is not working. You should ask them what you can do to help them do their job better. If you have these open lines of communication, you will be able to be more productive and successful in your business. Your employees will also be more willing to do their job effectively when they know that you care for them and care about what they think about what they are doing and how they are doing it.

INSTANT MBA: 'Be The Leader Who Hops In The Delivery Truck'
In order to be an effective leader, you need to truly know what it is like to walk in your employees shoes for the day. I find the show “Undercover Boss” very interesting and think that this creates great opportunities for those CEO’s that are on this show. When you have walked in the shoes of your employees and truly listen to their concerns, you will uncover some of the things that are slowing growth for your organization. Once you recognize these problems, you have the information needed to be able to create change and drive improvement.

Instant MBA: Be the Leader Who Hops In the Delivery Truck Effective leaders should be able to sit down with their workers and discuss the areas that need to be worked on all the time, not just when it’s mandatory. Sometimes it is good to carry yourself as a “normal” employee rather than always walking around with the “big-head”. Employees take note to actions, and if you show interest in what they have to say about certain areas, in return they will bust their butt to help the company reach its’ goal. Yes, maybe some things that are said will be personal to you, and you may feel like your employees are “out to get you,” but in reality all they are trying to do is help the company. You have to possess business sportsmanship in order to be an effective leader. Business sportsmanship is when you are able to receive constructive criticism from everyone around you, and turn into something great. Great Read!!

I think it is very important as a leader to get direct feedback from your employees on a daily basis. Not only will this give you up front insight on certain things you need to improve, but this will also show your employees that you care. Often times lower level employees don't even know what their upper managers look like, but as a leader you should want your employees to know exactly who you are. Show your employees that you want to hear what they have to say about you as a manager and about your company. Being a leader who interacts with their employees on a daily basis is an effective way to improve your management/leadership skills and also your company.

INSTANT MBA: Positive Thinking Won't Help You Erase A Mistake
Mistakes are not meant to be erased, but to be fixed. We learn so much by making mistakes, fixing it and owning up to it. This is how we learn, and in this process we may discover opportunities that benefit the company. Live and learn is one of my favorite mottos. I do think that keeping a positive attitude while fixing a mistake is a good practice. And share your mistakes with others, it will make them feel normal since we all make mistakes, some just don't admit them.

INSTANT MBA: 'Be The Leader Who Hops In The Delivery Truck'
I agree 100% with this article. At my job the store manager will have random meetings with different employees on how he is doing as a leader and how he can improve or how other managers can improve. Some people use this opportunity to bad mouth every person in the store which is stupid but I always like these meetings cause I say what I truly feel which is what I would want to hear if I was in his shoes.

INSTANT MBA: 'Be The Leader Who Hops In The Delivery Truck'
Really great article. I can totally assure you that this managing style works better than merely an analytical or conceptual style. While it is good practice to know the quantitative details of the business, talking to your employees face-to-face will give you more information of how the business is REALLY doing. It will also show your employees that you care about their roles with the company

INSTANT MBA: 'Be The Leader Who Hops In The Delivery Truck'
This is by far my favorite article so far. In so many cases executives and directors are so out of the loop with the lower employees that they don't see how their business is really being run. Sure they know the revenues and expenses, but they don't know how they got there. Top managers should be in touch with every aspect of their business. As easy as going on the work floor and talking to the workers on a consistent bases and even pitching in sometimes. It is a real moral booster to employees because it shows that you think of them as people and not just another person to pay. Also, ask your employees their opinions on the day-to-day operations. They see the little things that happen and can have a lot of good ideas. Top managers should listen to the improvements that they think and the ideas should in no way hurt that persons standing in the business.

INSTANT MBA: 'Be The Leader Who Hops In The Delivery Truck'
There are a lot of leaders today that just don't want to get their hands dirty or their poor, easily offended feelings hurt. You need to be able to stick to your mistakes and fix things head on. If you really want to know how and what is keeping the company from progressing you have to jump in the dirt and grab a shovel. This way you know EXACTLY what problems you need to address and how to fix them. This will also gain the respect and the acceptance of your employees.

INSTANT MBA: 'Be The Leader Who Hops In The Delivery Truck'
The CEO of our company actually came in to other day at work dressed in the techs' uniform, company polo shirt, khaki pants, and tennis shoes. I asked her why was she dressed in that uniform instead of her normal suit and she responded, "I wanted too really see what is it like to be a tech, so I am riding with a tech today." It was refreshing and exciting to see her hop in the van with the tech to see what a day in the life of their shoes. A problem we have at our company is the request of the customer changes from the time they report it to me or their sales rep via telephone to when the tech gets onsite. It becomes very frustrating for everyone involved and it hard to address. I am not sure how her day went, I haven't had a chance to talk to her about it. But I am sure it was very eye opening.

Being an all around crew member can be more rewarding than anything. Working with management as well as crew members allows you to know the flaws between the two and how to fix them, if they can be fixed. This allows you to communicate with both groups and see the many different views on the workplace. I have learned that it has is benefits as well as disadvantages. People use you to get their point across without directly talking to whom ever they are having the problem with. But you can also be the one to help both sides see each other's point of view.
