INSTANT MBA: This Could Be 'The Most Powerful Leadership Tool You Possess'
Everyone makes mistakes and I think it is important to understand that your employees will make a few down the road too. As a manager you make sure the employee learns from the mistake made and go over the process of how to avoid the mistake. Also I think employees makes unnecessary mistakes because they are afraid or embarrassed to ask their manager for guidance as a fear of looking stupid. It is very important to keep the line of communication open between manager and employee so they will feel comfortable coming to you for help no matter how big or how small the concern is.

INSTANT MBA: This Could Be 'The Most Powerful Leadership Tool You Possess'
Forgiving is almost always the best leadership tool. Forgiving allows you to look past what a person did and see the good you are capable of. Learning from the past is what we do best, so why isn't it the same in the workplace? Building up confidence from the beginning is exactly what a person needs in order to be successful later down the road.

I can say from experience that focusingonthe positives not the negatives is a much more effective way to get people to listen. When something goes wrong, or when someone makes a mistake, no one one knows better then them that they messed up. That being so, why would they need their boss to tell them more about what happened? They need someone to help them improve and work to stop this mistake from happening again. And the hardest part of this tactic into understand that it applies to major mistakes as well as the minor everyday ones.

Alt link 37: INSTANT MBA: Frugality Is Important Because It Forces You To Be Creative
Anyone can be successful with an unlimited budget and resources. Truly creative people are the ones who solve problems with nothing more than what they have at their disposal. I think back to the old TV show "Macgyver." Macgyver would always make something imaginative to stop the bad guy with whatever he had in his pockets or was just lying around. Innovative ideas in business can come from the same situation.

INSTANT MBA: This Could Be 'The Most Powerful Leadership Tool You Possess'
I think that understanding that an employee is first and foremost a person is a skill that I have already developed. I always treat every one of my crew members with respect, even in tough situations that have upset me. My former boss, on the other hand, had a real problem with this and could not keep her cool when reprimanding employees. She would verbally attack the person, until the point that they would leave the office crying. This caused her to get lots of human resource complaints, as well as her losing respect from the crew. I saw this flaw in her and strived to never act that way. I feel this has allowed me to have the ultimate respect from my crew.

INSTANT MBA: This Could Be 'The Most Powerful Leadership Tool You Possess'
If one of your employees make a mistake don't fuss them like they are a dog. Your employees have feeling and you have to remember that everyone messes up every once in a while. I'm not saying over look every mistake your employees make but you should be as calm as possible when correcting them for their mistakes. Also, don't just talk to your employees when you are correcting them, acknowledge the good work that they do also. Treat your employees how you would want to be treated.

INSTANT MBA: This Could Be 'The Most Powerful Leadership Tool You Possess'
There is a big difference between forgiving someone and giving them constructive criticism versus yelling at them and degrading them. When an employee makes a mistake, its important to let them know that it was a mistake, but even now matter how big, it can be fixed and show them the proper way to perform the task. When a leader or employer holds grudges or comes down to harsh on their employees, it can create a tense environment, and also can make that employee feel belittled.

INSTANT MBA: This Could Be 'The Most Powerful Leadership Tool You Possess'
I feel like my current boss could do well by reading this article. He tends to hold grudges and this hinders the development of the crew member that messed up. People make mistakes, but this doesn't mean that person is condemned to continually make mistakes and isn't worth spending time on. Once a crew member makes a mistake it takes a whole lot for him to forgive and move on, because he continually looks negatively at the crew member. I feel like because he does this, our crew members feel discouraged and their work performance goes down. If he would just give second chances, I feel like we would not have missed out on developing a few of our crew members into captains and managers.

I could see how you can view an employee as a mistake maker after he or she has made a few big mistakes. But most likely if you are a forgiving person outside of business you will be forgiving at work too. Although if you are the sole proprietor and that mistake costs you money you may see things differently.

INSTANT MBA: This Could Be 'The Most Powerful Leadership Tool You Possess'
When a boss of mine possesses the quality of understanding and forgiving mistakes, it makes me respect them so much more, and actually enjoy my job. I couldn't agree more with the advice in this article. I once had a soccer coach that did not possess this quality, and although I loved the sport, him getting very angry after every little mistake that was happened made me-and everyone else for that matter- want to quit the team. It is very much like that in the work environment, and it is definitely not healthy for the company's culture to have employees running around hating their jobs and wanting to quit. Being able to provide constructive criticism had always been my method of choice for dealing with employee mistakes, and I think that makes a much better work environment for everyone.

It is important to remember not to explode on people. Remembering that we are all human and make mistakes is a very important thing.Mention that you have notices the mistake and ask questions but don't interrogate the person or make them uncomfortable. That being so, why would they need their boss to tell them more about what happened? They need someone to help them improve and work to stop this mistake from happening again.I saw this flaw in her and strived to never act that way.

I would have to agree with this article. One mistake does not mean a person is incapable of doing a job. In our everyday lives we make mistakes. Mistakes are a part of what molds us into better people. When an employee makes a mistake, a boss should give them another chance. If this employee continues to screw up every task you issue then you may have a problem. If not, then maybe they will turn out to be one of the better team members a company possesses.

INSTANT MBA: This Could Be 'The Most Powerful Leadership Tool You Possess' Yes, great article for leaders to utilize. I have met many managers that will praise a great employee until they have made that one mistake that brings them to the bottom of the barrel. Great leadership takes looking at things as a whole and not partially. Everyone has a mistake at some point but it shouldn't be held against them.

Instant MBA: This Can Be ‘The Most Powerful Leadership Tool You Possess’
Employee's will make mistakes no matter what tasks they are given. But it is up to them leader to make sure that the error can be fixed. An employer should never yell at employee's for their mistakes. Every mistake is different and you should be forgiven but also held responsible and understand that the errors can not be made over and over again.

INSTANT MBA: This Could Be 'The Most Powerful Leadership Tool You Possess'
People are not perfect; they will make mistakes. It is the duty of a manager to make sure that when an employee makes a mistake, no matter how large, that it becomes a teaching moment. Since the manager becomes a teacher, this entails forgiveness. Forgiveness, mentioned by the author, is the most powerful tool in the manager’s leadership arsenal. This teaching attitude will build morale, and cohesiveness throughout the office.
