INSTANT MBA: Spot Potential Problems Before They Become Disasters
Spotting problems, and in turn “putting out fires” before they get out of control, is a main duty of managers and executives. The skill of problem-spotting can be taught, as the author states, because it is taught in law school to potential attorneys. If problems are allowed to become crises, more effort is needed to quell the discontent, which lowers the production level of the entire office. Also, quick spotting of issues by managers keeps morale high.

A good manager spot problems early and does something to try to prevent them. You do not want a problem to become too out of control and hurt the business. It is the manager’s job to spot the problem and fix it.

INSTANT MBA: Without Great Customer Service, It Doesn't Matter How Good Your Product Is
I have to agree with this - at least for my personality. Let's use DirecTv as an example. I like many things that they offer through their service. However, their customer service is beyond bad. Just from the customer service that I have received on multiple occasions, we switched providers when we moved and i will never go back . I find that if you expect people to want to buy your product, you should care about the people you have on the front end and monitor how they talk to your customers. It makes a huge difference in my eyes.

Issue spotting is a very important skill, and one that is taught in the mymanagementlab portion of this course during the critical thinking exercises. being able to establish the root cause of the problem and then learning how to best solve it is what differentiates good executives from great executives. A good executive can spot obvious issues, but a great executive can optimize the entire business by finding details no one else thought was important and then fixing them.

INSTANT MBA: Spot Potential Problems Before They Become Disasters
This article places emphasis on one of the necessary skills that top level management needs to have and I find it to be accurate. In order to be an efficient and effective top level manager you must be able to spot issues quickly before they get out of hand. By keeping a close eye on your company and having the ability to remove potential disastrous problems, you have a much greater chance at success.

INSTANT MBA: Spot Potential Problems Before They Become Disasters
I think the article makes some great points. When issue is identified, the most effective CEOs then work quickly to squash the potential problem before it has time to grow into a crisis. Usually you can't do it by yourself, you need a team around. Also finding the problem at the root cause of the problem is the best way to fix it. If you try to ignore the little problems it will just snowball into a major crisis.

I truly believe in squashing the problem before becomes a disaster. A big issue in some jobs now is people playing on their phones. The problem is just simply placing the phones in the drawer while at work to keep from distractions. So squashing a problem from the start is real good because it may never become a disaster at the end.

INSTANT MBA: Spot Potential Problems Before They Become Disasters
Being able to see problems coming is a great skill to have. The more issues that you identify and resolve before they can become a problem, the better off you will be in running your business. This is always an excellent quality to possess as a business owner.

“Once an issue is identified, the most effective CEOs then work quickly to squash the potential problem before it has time to grow into a crisis.” This sounds specifically like a management issue. One where your employees are hooked up through the grapevine and move information faster than you do. Sometimes an issue that does not seem real or practical can become a problem once it gains traction. If people perceive it to be real and give it the power to affect them then it will.

i am surprised to hear that usually you cannot fix problems yourself. But I am not surprised to hear that you have to be a problem spotter. There are always problems that come up and as CEO of that company you will have to find them quickly. There is obviously a lot of responsibility in being an owner of a business. Problem spotting just comes with the territory.

Everyone must try to have this ability. If you can catch a problem before they occur you are saving your business a lot of hassle. You must always have your eyes open and ready to change things that are in need of change at all times.

INSTANT MBA: Spot Potential Problems Before They Become Disasters
When managing a business, you need to be able to keep an open mind. This will allow you to spot the problem with the procedure, employees, ideas, etc. It is true that "most effective CEOs then work quickly to squash the potential problem before it has time to grow into a crisis". There is not many people that have this skill. This goes hand to hand with the article and how "fewer than 1% of employees actually manage to attain an executive level position". A successful company is focused and had employees that work together and are able to resolve problems quickly and efficiently.

Instant MBA:Spot Potential Problems Before They Become Disasters
This link talks about solving the problem before it becomes more serious. It is very important to find problems with any thing before that problem has time to mature. If that happens then what ever idea that you would have would desolve easily. It is also a good idea to have the people around you have the same goal to find the problems because they may have the skills that you may not possess to solve it.

I agree with this article. I think it is very important as a manager or an upper level member of a business to be aware of potential for problem areas. The more aware one is of these potential mishaps the easier it will be to "fix the problem" in the future. If there is no awareness of particular problem situations, they can escalate out of control with the chance of become a bigger problem to deal with then when it initially started.

INSTANT MBA: Spot Potential Problems Before They Become Disasters
Obviously CEOs and executive members of a company need to be able to spot problems areas and preferably early on in that problem area. It is difficult to build a company and become successful in whatever you do if you cannot spot issues. Also, it does not do you much good to spot problems if you cannot fix them. Company leaders must also have great problem solving skills.
