INSTANT MBA: Spot Potential Problems Before They Become Disasters It is always a good idea to try and point out the potential dangers that lie in any type of adventure weather is be in business or life in general. I believe that in order to increase your chances of success, you have to try and spot the potential problems and then deal with them immediately before they become larger more destructive problems. You would never want to implement a strategy that is not thought out and organized so that you can see your potential flaws. When I was working at a restaurant, I would bring extra utensils, plates, side sauces, etc with me so instead having to go back to the kitchen. This made it so I could quickly provide the customers with what they needed and not risk losing any tip money.

INSTANT MBA: Spot Potential Problems Before They Become Disasters Spotting a problem at its roots is the best way of dealing with things before it gets out of control. Good leaders should always try and fix a problem as soon as possible, even if it doesn’t seem to be that important at that point in time. If ignored, the small problem could grow into something bigger. For example, if they see someone on the phone during work and company policy clearly states that cell phones are not allowed then this situation should be dealt with immediately but if ignored, other employees start using their phones creating a lack in work performances, lowering profits, and customer satisfaction.

Customers buy all sorts of products, but customers come back for the same products because of service after the sale. Customer service plays such an important role in marketing products because it is an important thing in the eyes of customers.

INSTANT MBA: Spot Potential Problems Before They Become Disasters
Being a problem spotter is a well developed skill. Most people can tell you that there is a conflict, but could not tell you the actual problem. I have found most of the time it ends up being the way the employee is talked to. This can easily be fixed by correcting the way you word things. Others problems can be more complicated and sometimes cannot be fixed by one person, but rather the group as a whole. Group problems normally lead to disasters and having a problem spotter there who can spot a problem before it actually becomes a problem is crucial.

Instant MBA: Spot Potential Problems Before They Become Disasters
One great quality of a good manager or business owner would be being able to spot problems before they begin. Being in business it is so hard to foresee what is going to happen, but by doing your best to predict what will happen, or at least preparing for what could happen, you are one step ahead of the competition, and one step ahead of yourself. You must be able to take the choices you are making now, lay them out, and see what might happen in the future.

INSTANT MBA: Spot Potential Problems Before They Become Disasters
Learning how to spot potential problem areas is something that Raising Canes taught me to do in my management training. Looking ahead and spotting possible problem areas is a good way to stop problems before they even happen. It's important to not only think ahead about the next shift coming up, but to look ahead into the upcoming weeks and months. I personally do this when making schedules, by skimming ahead and assessing the community to see if any events are coming up that might cause our business to have an increase in sales, that way I can schedule extra crew members accordingly. Always looking ahead can help you scout out potential problems and fix them ahead of time.

INSTANT MBA: Spot Potential Problems Before They Become Disasters Executives should definitely have the experience to spot issues and conflicts and finding ways to resolve them. An entrepreneur with less experience could benefit from hiring an executive until the build the knowledge that is required. I have seen the pressure that executives are under and would only recommend it on those that are capable of handling it.

This is a pretty generally vague article... Issues do need to be dealt with, whether they be with a process or with an employee. Spotting them can be easier for some than others but I guess that is what separates the winners and losers. Issues can be difficult to deal with alone. If you have a way with people and can convince everyone an issue exists they can be easier to nip in the bud.

Being able to spot an issue or conflict before it rises is an excellent quality for any boss to have. Although not many have this trait, it is one that will definitely make you stand out as a good leader. If you are able to spot the problem, and fix it before it comes something much bigger, than you've saved yourself a lot of time, money, and stress to you and your employees. As the article mentions, possessing this trait can make you a very effective CEO.

INSTANT MBA: Spot Potential Problems Before They Become Disasters
This should be a core value for all companies working with public. It must be a priority for all employees from the owner to the front line workers. If you don't have a action plan for customer service, you won't be in business for long. You may only notice that very end result, when in actuality, the initial cause of the problem is what you should be addressing. I have found most of the time it ends up being the way the employee is talked to. This can easily be fixed by correcting the way you word things.

INSTANT MBA: Spot Potential Problems Before They Become Disasters
Taking charge at the first sign of something going wrong prevents a large crisis. This is especially important in business. A small problem or issue can become an enormous problem or issue overnight. Large problems can stop the flow of production in a business and cause a loss of profits.

INSTANT MBA: Spot Potential Problems Before They Become Disasters "Framing these root causes in a way that enables others to appreciate them, then determining the best way to resolve them, are also requisite skills for leaders. Usually, you can’t fix things yourself." Interesting point…. The initial message was to eliminate the problem before it grows, yet the last statement seems to say highlight the critical issues to others within your organization and resolve them as a group. My understanding of the point is that it is critical that you can spot the problem, but then you need to bring it to the attention of your management staff and allow the group to determine the best way to handle it.
