Instant MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You’re Cheating Yourself and Your Business
No business will benefit from burned out employees. The golden rule of treat others as you would want to be treated yourself should be applied to every aspect of business and daily life. Whenever the business is booming, it is easy to lose track of how overworked employees are. We are focused more on finances than our leisure time, and this should not happen. It is important to have a balance between work and pleasure. If you overwork yourself and your employees eventually your finances will decline. Your employees will not perform because they will be worn out and this will also cause high turnover. Having a good balance will be key success in the long run.

Edmunds makes good points in this article. I agree with work hard and play hard. Being balanced is key to being happy and motivated to succeed in life. If you are working all day and not enjoying yourself at all you can develop tunnel vision and become focused on one thing and lost sight of your goals. It is always good to step back and take a look from the other side. Stay focused on your goals and enjoy yourself when possible.

Instant MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You’re Cheating Yourself and Your Business
One should never overwork themselves. The same can be said almost moreso when talking about overworking employees. Getting caught up in trying to reach any goal can often lead to overworking or being overworked. This leads to poor outcomes and should be avoided by everyone. If a business can have a happy medium between business and pleasure then everyone, especially the company, will benefit. As an employee I never want to work hard if I feel overworked. As a future employer I'll still never want to overwork and I'll never want my employees to feel overworked and in turn not want to work.

Gladys Edmunds says "Sometimes entrepreneurs become over-enthusiastic about developing customers, earning money, and breaking ground to grow their companies. When this happens—and it often does—we overwork ourselves as well as our employees." What she means is, whenever we get deep into business in our company, we tends to over work the employees who is working, and I agree with with her on that.

Instant MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You’re Cheating Yourself and Your Business
There is a fundamental flaw in this article, "Treat your employees like you treat yourself." Ms. Edmunds is accurate in her assessment of overworked employees. Efficiency certainly does suffer when employees are overworked. Fixing this problem must come from the leadership within a business. If the leadership is working from dusk till dark it will be hard for them to understand why their employees will not do the same. I have worked from managers who literally lived at the office and could not understand why I wanted to spend time with my family. Leadership affects the overall culture and their perception of work balance will trickle down through employees.

While it is important to have a goal to work towards and have a definite plan to get there, nothing is worse than working on something morning, noon, and night. It's all you know, all you see, and all you hear about and it becomes mundane and tiring. Working so hard and so diligently on something can burn out employees and make them resent what they are doing. When no one working on the project is no longer excited about the project and where it is going, it shows. Things should be managed in a way that makes it possible for employees to work at a pace comfortable to them so that everything can be done efficiently.

INSTANT MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You're 'Cheating Yourself And Your Business'
In order to not cheat yourself or your company, managers should treat their employees as they treat themselves. If employees get overwork, they become burnt-out and lose ambition and focus. To ensure employees stay enthusiastic about their job and the company, it is important to incorporate leisure time into business or allow employees to have a personal life and time to themselves equally as much as they invest time into the business. Incorporating company picnics or allowing employees to work from home when applicable are ways to implement less of a work load.

Instant MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You’re Cheating Yourself and Your Business This article makes a great point discussing the behavior of some business owner. Owner has a different way of looking at the business they are operating compared to the people they are employing, more passion behind what they are doing, driving the employees to above and behind than what they were expecting. Not understand that you can push them to the limit because of your ambitions

I could NOT agree with this article more! I can really relate to this topic personally, because I have a boss that can be so money hungry that he will over-work his employees nearly every day. Most of our employees are about 18-25. Most are in school, and some even have other jobs. In our bosses head, the more people we have working, the more productive everyone can be in taking care of our customers. However, sometimes he puts so many people on the schedule that we literally run into one another, and we look overly unorganized. He also will work some people up to 85 hours a week, and that to me is really unfair.

Instant MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You’re Cheating Yourself and Your Business
I agree with the article entirely. I have had jobs that have given me this experience first hand. An owner is trying to open a business and make it successful and keeps their good employees and gets rid of the bad ones. The owner then over works the good employees to the point of exhaustion which in turn hurts the business. It is important to make sure that job requirements don't change to negatively impact your employees for doing a good job. It is also important for the owner not to overwork themselves to the point of being unhappy.

Link #28 Instant MBA When you overwork your employees, you’re cheating yourself
and your business.
I agree with the idea that overworking employees is not beneficial to your company.
Yeah they may get more work done, but the employees may not get the work done
efficiently. Also no employees wants to be overworked to the point that they hate the
job. You need to have a good balance of work and play. If you are working long hours,
like the link of the day says, you will not have the right state of mind. You may make
more mistakes or not care because you are tired and don’t want to be there.

INSTANT MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You're 'Cheating Yourself And Your Business
In this article they talk about overworking your employees and how you can cheat yourself and your business. People don't work as well when they feel overworked and they can do a half ass job. You want your worker to be happy at work and feel energized. This will ensure you're getting your full moneys worth out of your worker and it reality they will be much more productive and happy. Don't overwork your staff and know a happy staff is a productive staff.

INSTANT MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You're 'Cheating Yourself And Your Business'
Gladys Edmunds is both a USA Today columnist and author of an entrepreneurial success book. She understands that passion and drive to succeed often cause young-business owners to overwork themselves and their employees to gain greater competitive ground. She argues that this is a mistake, that instead we should follow the golden rule of treating others as we treat ourselves. I agree with Ms. Edmunds because overworked employees are discontent, and will either underperform or always be looking for a way out.

Instant MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You’re Cheating Yourself and Your Business
When your employees are overworked and don't have time for anything else this can lead to several things. It can lead to job dissatisfaction, job burnout, and task avoidance. Most importantly, it leads to unhappy employees. This problems cause high turnover within the company, which is bad for the company overall. When a company has high turnover, it cuts into their profit margin because of all the money they have to spend training new employees. There also aren't as many employees that know all of the aspects of the job because most of the employees were just hired.
