Instant MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You’re Cheating Yourself and Your Business
Most employees are usually more of the bottom-line workers, but no matter their level, they are all very important to a business. If your employees aren't working to their full potential then neither is your company. Overworking your employees can harm your business. If their bodies can't keep up they may get sick and miss work. Also, they may be unhappy working too many hours and not want to work much because they are frustrated. Lastly, they may just end up quitting, which may leave you in a bind because you are short workers and have to spend money to hire and train more workers. Overworking your employees can end up harming your business rather than helping it.

I definitely feel like this is an important subject. As someone who does not mind a strong workload I can see how this cold become problematic. Just because you don't mind being overworked, does not mean that everyone else does not mind. You want to make sure your employees are stong mentally and physically which will most likely not happen in the office itself. The less overworked your employees are the more productive they can be. It allows them to put forth a full effort and focus completely on the task at hand. The more overworked employees are the more chance for errors and lack of caring tend to develop.

This article is so true. I think treating your employees how you would want to be treated is the best way to go. Overworking makes everyone tired and I definitely feel that I am less productive when I have worked a lot of hours in a week. It is not good on not only a persons productiveness, but on their health. You do not want employees who are overwhelmed with hours who do not get a chance to do things that are pleasurable to them outside of work. This is a sure way to have unproductive and unhappy employees.

Instant MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You’re Cheating Yourself and Your Business
There will always be things that need to be, but working yourself to death is not the answer. Working efficiently on things and finishing what you can is a better option. Some employees do not like leaving the office until everything has been done, but that is just not possible in the working world these days. There will always be more work than a workday can hold and things will have to wait to be done the next day. I think there comes a time when employees need to leave the work desk and add some other activity into the day. Working too much can be harmful to the body and your health. It is also not a good atmosphere for everyone else working with you. Work will be done, but also enjoy some other things in there as well.

I agree with this article that overworking your employees is only cheating yourself and your business. You cannot overwork yourself either. Everyone needs a break from work both physically and mentally. Overworking drains you and takes a toll on your overall health. If you treat your employees right and give them a chance to rest your business will gain the benefits. It is extremely important to keep a healthy balance between work and pleasure for your well-being as well as for your employees well-being.

I totally agree with Edmunds. We all only live one life, and spending your life overworking yourself (and/or your employees) is a terrible way to live. The best companies offer employees and executives opportunities for a good work-life balance where they can actually enjoy the work they do while still making time for personal life responsibilities. As we have seen in earlier articles, working smarter, not harder is a better way to run a business. Employees who choose their own work styles that still enable work to be done in a timely manner are happier and more productive in the long-run.

As the old saying goes, "work hard and play hard." There's also another one that says, "all work and no play, makes Johnny a dull boy." The author makes a very valid point in that it is so important to find a healthy balance in your life. If you do nothing but play, you'll never achieve anything and will probably be in financial ruin. On the other hand, if you work 24/7, you may die wealthy but you'll be a miserable person in the process and I doubt you'll have very many people missing you at your funeral---except they may attend to see how much money they're getting from you. The point here is though that a manager should realize the need for a healthy balance in his or her own life and should strive to see to it that his or her employees realize and are giving the opportunity to do the same.

INSTANT MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You're 'Cheating Yourself And Your Business
Overworking employee is not health and as Gladys Edmunds puts it, just imaging what yourself can do when you are tired and exhausted. But what happen if the employees when to overwork themselves and have more money? As human we work better when we are energetic, more creative and we will probably like the job and have fun when we are not tired. I have an employer who really valued this and i gave him credit for it, He never let its employees work double shift,if employee wants more money they should find a better job or go back to school and get better skills to work in the jobs they best fits there needs, i think this is hard, but for the sack of your business and the health of other we need to lay the truth.

INSTANT MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You're 'Cheating Yourself And Your Business'
This article makes the excellent point that a manager must be cautious of the amount of stress that is put on the employees when trying to make a company grow. Working your employees from dawn until dusk everyday will have a detrimental effect on the employees and the firm. It is a proven fact that overwork causes stress and can lead to serious health complications. The low morale from "slaving" away at work all day will definitely hurt the business in the long run. One of the managers must important jobs is to motivate employees to do the work, and not just require that it is done. Simple things such as office parties, casual dress code days, or an incentive based reward system can more than make up the costs in morale and productivity. Managers should want employees to enjoy coming to work and should do anything in their power to ensure that this is achieved.

Instant MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You’re Cheating Yourself And Your Business Employers need to stay focuses at all time and remember how it was to be an employee. Employers lose sight of the big picture and just focus on their ultimate goal which is too make money or to see their company grow. They should never overwork their employees no matter what the goal their trying to achieve is. The risk is not worth losing good employees over. It’s okay to have a goal and work hard to achieve it but employers need to hire more workers.

"When You Overwork Your Employees, You’re Cheating Yourself and Your Business"
This article makes me think of the golden rule "treat others the way you would want to be treated." It's one thing to enjoy work, but I can only take around 40-45 hours of it. I wouldn't want to work my employees over what I'd be willing to work. By working your employees "to the bone," you're sacrificing many different things. For starters, you're sacrificing the health of your employees. Being overworked can cause loss of sleep, which in turn can cause people to become more successful to illnesses. Another thing you're sacrificing is effectiveness and efficiency. A tired employee won't be very efficient if they are having to take naps during work in order to continue working late. They also become less effective when it comes to any quantitative type of task and less effective when it comes to dealing with customers. To sum it all up, there are 24 hours in a day. Your employees need to sleep for about 8 hours, about an hour for commuting time, and have at least 5-6 hours for some form of recreational activity to wind down from their 9-10 hour work day.

"Treat employees like you treat yourself, and your business will reap the benefits". This quote can sum up the entire article. Correctly treating your employees will always lead to happier employees which leads to positivity in the workforce. Employees should work as the business owner does, so since he is the leader and role model they should be emulating him. Also, they should know the negative effects of overworking. It leads to a more stressful tension on the mind and body which can diminish self motivation and your physical abilities.

INSTANT MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You're 'Cheating Yourself And Your Business
This article is very true. For a human mind to work efficiently, there has to be a proper balance between work and pleasure. After working so much hours, our mind definitely demands a rest. However, businesses tend to overwork their employees much beyond their capacity in order to get their work done. This is not a good approach. There is a saying, "Treat others the way you wanted to be treated yourself". Tired and exhausted employees can neither create good output nor can they concentrate properly. Thus, it is very important to have a balance between the two.

Treating employees as a boss would treat himself is a good philosophy to understand but many bosses work allot harder and an employee should. This is one reason why bosses may tend to over work employees. If they are driven and focused on grow and advancing in their industry they can easily over look the employees personal lives. Employees should work as much as they are worth and compromised for.
