Instant MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You’re Cheating Yourself and Your Business The golden rule ‘treat others the way you want to be treated’ should be applied to everyone, including employees. I know that it is a very good feeling to own a successful business and keeping it that way is important, but there are other alternatives to execute the process and overworking employees isn’t one. It may seem as if they ‘signed up’ for this, but in reality they signed up to help make the business successful. As an owner, you have to ask yourself ‘would I want someone to do this to me?’ I’m pretty sure that the answer in no, because too much work can eventually take a toll to the body both physically and mentally. Balancing out work and play should be considered under any circumstance to keep the body healthy. As a leader, differentiating the difference between what is right and what is wrong will always be a tough decision. But if the tables are turned and now you-the owner- are on the short end of the stick, will the decision still be tough? Overworking employees isn’t good for business and questions will arise about the leader of that particular organization. Now that once successful business is no longer successful because of the unwillingness to be fair to the employees. Great Read!!

INSTANT MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You're 'Cheating Yourself And Your Business'
I believe that we must treat others the same way we will treat ourselves, and in a business environment, this is even more important. The employees are one the most important elements of any organization, and keeping them motivated is key to maintain the performance of the company at the highest levels. Having ambitions and challenging people are always good things, but there has to be limits to avoid overworking employees. Managers must carefully design tasks and deadlines that are challenging and feasible at the same time, so the workers don't feel they are being pushed too much. Stress at work is very common today, and companies need to devise plans to give their employees the opportunity to have a balance between their personal and professional life.

Instant MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You’re Cheating Yourself and Your Business
I agree with what this article has to say about what can be lost if you overwork your employees. I have seen times in my own work history where this can become an issue. I have found times in the last couple of years that I can even drive myself to the point that I start becoming less productive. If you do not take the time to unwind and allow yourself to relax, often the creative energy will start to diminish. My current manager is very good at recognizing these signs and will be very quick to point out to myself and others that we need to take our vacation time that we have coming to us so we can recharge and be ready to contribute where needed.

INSTANT MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You're 'Cheating Yourself And Your Business'
I must say I agree with this article. I absolutely believe that a healthy balance between work and pleasure is important to someone's overall well-being. If you are overworking not only yourself but also your employees you are indeed cheating yourself and your business. In my opinion overworked employees are less productive than employees who have a healthy balance between work and pleasure. You may think by overworking your employees you are developing more customers and earning more money but in reality all you are doing is slowing down the productivity of your employees and the growth of your company. Giving yourself and your employees time to refresh their minds and body is very important. If you are a manager and you are giving yourself breaks and vacations it is your responsibility to give your employees the same treatment. Everyone needs a break. This article was a great read.

This article has brought up taking time for yourself and not over-working. This was also discussed in another article. I think that this is very important. If you over work your employees they will lose their passion and dedication as well as creativity. When this happens your business can start to decline in several aspects. It is important as a leader to stress that work is important but also taking time for yourself is important as well. You need to stress that their needs to be a balance and as a leader, you can help your employees set that balance.

INSTANT MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You're 'Cheating Yourself And Your Business'
This article speaks volumes. I am the perfect person to tell you about work and pleasure balance because I have been in a place where I worked entirely to much and did not make anytime for myself or my family. The money was great but I never had the time to spend it because all I did was work and not enjoy myself. And when you begin to do that you often begin to hate your job and become less productive. You need refreshed and happy people on your team.

INSTANT MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You're 'Cheating Yourself And Your Business'
“Treat your business as you would treat yourself”. This is a very honest and agreeable motto to follow. I’ve always been taught what goes around comes around growing up and it can be related to the point this article is trying to make. It’s never a good idea to overwork your employees. Just like team members on a sports team, you must give your players an opportunity to rest before they can play their A game. With the space and comfort to work leisurely yet at a steady productive pace, your employees will work with minimal negativity and have a more positive outlook on their personal success. Because your employees are the foundation of your company, the outcome will be much greater with a happier workforce.

INSTANT MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You're 'Cheating Yourself And Your Business'
It is all about finding out what your employees are good at. Especially in retail, it is best to assign your employee where they are most effective. If you notice that one associate is more effective at folding clothes than working the speed of a register and promoting the store, you cross train that associate and keep their concentration on cleaning up the folding tables and so forth. Not recognizing what your associates strengths are, you are definitely cheating yourself and the business you are affiliated with.

INSTANT MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You're 'Cheating Yourself And Your Business'
I can't tell you how much I agree with this article. At a previous job, I had to work till about 1 a.m. and it seemed like as soon as I would wake up I had to be right back there again. I had no time for myself or any one else for that matter. It gets to a point where you don't care as much about your job anymore, but there's only so mant things you can do about it. I'm all about working hard for a job but at some point enough is enough. You're not gonna be able to keep the same work pace if you're pushed to the limit everyday.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Micromanage Your Employees
Micromanagment has no place in the workplace. Managers need to believe and trust in the employees they hire to do the jobs. Overbearing managers will lose the support and create a hostile environment for the employees. Allowing your supervisors and employees to perform in a non-hostile environment will allow them to perform better. Give them to tools to work and step back and let them do it. Do monitor the process, but in a supportive way. Giving managers free range can cause problems in the long run. Having a safety net in place to monitor the managers is a must. They need to know someone is monitoring the process to keep unethical behavior out of your company's business.

Instant MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You're Cheating Yourself And Your Business
I have overworked myself so many times with every job that I have ever had, and it is never good for me, or the people around me. In the job I hold now, I have come to a point that I am out of energy and out of ideas for the business. When this happens, I can see my results dwindling, and my efforts are not as good. I have had to take a moment off of work and step back so I don't get burnt out. In such a fast paced world, we are all trying to go above and beyond and I think that it is very easy for us to push ourselves and our employees to hard. Its important that we keep a solid balance.

INSTANT MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You're 'Cheating Yourself And Your Business'
No one can work 24/7. Everybody needs a little time to themselves to relax and recuperate. If you don't allow you or your employees that time, you could easily get overwhelmed and start to lose control. Working too much is not only dangerous to the business, but also your health. You want your employees to be enthusiastic about coming into work everyday, but if you work them too hard they won't be and their work will suffer because of it.

Instant MBA: When You Overwork Your Employees, You’re Cheating Yourself and Your Business
No truer words have ever been spoken. There is nothing worse than tired and burned out employees. When employees are tired, accidents or mistakes can happen much more frequently, and can be a danger if working at a risky job. Having the proper rest and balance of personal time, ensures your employees will be refreshed and ready to start getting busy. The old saying "all work and no play," can make a person bitter about their job and resent having to go to work everyday. I agree that there needs to be a balance there to instill good productivity at the workplace.
