Meeting can be boring but as she said meeting can be the only way to get some important things passed, hence necessary and cannot be avoided. Making the agenda to be clear is the key. Managers need to have the agenda set before the call a meeting. Short and brief which are highly structure are good. As a manager you need to appreciate the time people gave you their time by focusing on agenda and finishing the meeting on time.

TITLE - Work Smart: Unconventional Cures For Meeting-itis
Meetings are designed to create consensus or convey information among a group or organization. However, meetings have become a waste of time and delay productivity. Some unconventional methods to decrease meeting and make them more effective is to have a timer where everyone in the meeting can see how much time is left to avoid endless meetings. Employees can also leave their handheld devices, phones and tablets at their desk so they are less likely to be distracted during the meeting. Another method is to have a standing only meeting. This will definitely cut back on unnecessary meetings and conversations during meetings. A good meeting should have a prepared leader speaking who is respectful of everyone's time.

Work Smart: Unconventional Cures For Meeting-itis
Meeting are an essential part to every business. Meeting keep employees on track and show the company what is taking place. Meetings can be very costly sometimes and this video hits on ways to be productive in meetings. I thought it gave great examples on how to keep a meeting on track and to keep everyone focused. Sometimes conversation starts and it is easy for a meeting to get off track. All this does is waste time and money. The meeting is not serving it purpose as well as it could. This video was one that relates very well to my job. We have engagement meetings every week and sometimes these meetings take alot longer than they should.

Work Smart: Unconventional Cures For Meeting-itis
Meetings are unavoidable. And for the most part you need meetings in every business. But you need to be careful to not make be too often and too long so you dont consume people times and the companies money. You need to be have a game plan when being at the meetings so when you are there you focus on what is on the agenda. For having these meetings you also need a strong leader that can handle this. I think not having chairs in the conference room is a great way to keep meetings quick and to the point. This way people are not distracted or looking at their phones, but just focusing on what they are there for.

Nobody likes to be lectured, make your meetings fun and innovative, keep it short sweet and to the point. But you must create a environment where people want to be involved and ask questions to spark debate and ideas. This job is always on the leader or chair of the meeting. If you properly plan and come up with not the same typical agenda you will find more productivity in and out your meeting.

Gina listed great cures for meeting-itis. I have definitely been apart of meeting that just last entirely too long, so of I am ever in charge I a meeting, I will be sure to implement some of her suggestions. The ideas she mentioned that I liked are keeping all distractions out of the room, keeping a clock that is visible for everyone to see, only requiring the people who need to be in the meeting to come to the meeting, and having a strong leader carry the meeting.

I agree with this video in many ways. Meetings almost feeling like you're going to a class of some sort. No one really likes to sit through a meeting because sometimes listening to a lecture can get boring. I agree that sometimes meeting leaders can go overboard on he time limit. I believe that the most effective business meetings are the ones that are led by a fun business leader who tells you the important points in an effective way and they let you go after that. Also, I believe that taking everyone's cell phones during a meeting is a brilliant idea. Cell phones have become a major distraction to this society. Sometimes I feel like when I go eat lunch with one of my friends it is us on either side of the table texting and not even enjoying the company. Almost like you should be eating lunch with the person your texting if you didn't want to talk to the person you're with. This video definitely brought some great tips to the business world.

This video brings up something that I have hated since getting into the job market, meetings. They always start an hour or two before the business opens and is never any fun. The managers basically talk at us and we just listen to them tell us how bad we are until the store opens. I like the ideas of having a time limit to meetings, it makes managers be structured and know what they are going to say and for how long. Taking away the chairs in a meeting is a brilliant idea, everyone hates to stand so right when people start getting tired of doing so then the meeting is over. I always thought that you shouldn't be on phones, tablets, or computers when heading into a meeting. Ultimately the best way to keep meetings short and to the point starts with the leadership and how good of one that person is.

This video was great at making the point that I believe managers should truly take into consideration when conducting a meeting. Often meetings are something that turns into a huge cluster that completely went off track of the original agenda. Keeping them distraction free and have only the employees that need to be there in attendance and limit the length of the meeting to make sure you reach the point without running out of time.

This video talks about "meeting-itus." This is what happens when meetings run too long and too often that aren't necessary. There are many unconventional ways of making meetings shorter or more tolerable but when it comes down to it the real key to a good meeting is a strong leader. A leader who has an organized plan of where the meeting is going to go and a time that he wants to get out is important in making sure the point is made.

I would definitely share this video with friends and colleagues. Thank you professor. I think when it comes to meetings they are not always very productive. Keeping them small and concise are key but they are always people who are not getting anything from meetings. I feel that meetings sometimes are useless and take away from the business. Meeting only on a brief basis are key and making everyone in the meeting involved is good to keep the meeting interesting and productive

Everyone hates meetings, and I personally have observed that they often end up wasting time with not enough productivity to justify the time invested. I like idea that she brought up in this video. There is no set in stone structure that all meetings must follow, so I feel that shaking things up and changing around could definitely have a positive impact.

Recently, I read a case study on Microsoft when Steve Ballmer was in charge and found how meetings were responsible for a decrease in productivity. Everyone, throughout the departments, was frequently required to go to meetings. As a result, engineers had less time for technology creation and innovation while managers kept putting off large projects needing time to complete. The small effects between departments lead to increasingly bigger effects over time because of more and more meetings. Urgency to create and complete objectives became common, thus lowering worker morale...jobs were more demanding. The effects were so significant that Ballmer was fired and replaced. Defining and analyzing standards for meetings is necessary to make meetings an effective tool within the workplace. Likewise, failure to evaluate standards can hurt the workplace.
