Work Smart: Unconventional Cures For Meeting-itis
This video talks about how to make meetings actually productive and not as costly for a business. It also gives ideas some great ideas on how to keep the meeting focused and get the point across. It says to keep meetings short, not to have them too often, and only meet with people who actually need to be there. If you have 10 people in a one hour meeting that doesn't need to be there, you lose one day of productivity. That is very costly to a business. The most important tip for meetings is to have it run by a strong leader that can keep it on track.

People will often find themselves in meetings that they are dying to get out of meetings that just have too many non contributors. This meeting-itis that occurs has been reduced in many ways including but not limited to: removing chairs, projecting timers digitally, removing devices, and allocating only a certain amount of time for each topic. These methods are put in place to keep people focused and to keep them from loafing. I hate sitting somewhere and not getting anything done. Any one of these things seems as though it would help keep me from growing tired in a meeting.

Work Smart: Unconventional Cures For Meeting-itis
Time is money. If companies waste time they lose money. The video clip showed several ways in which to save time, in turn, save money. This is very important for Supply Chain Management majors who focus on leaning out waste in a supply chain. Granted, meetings are not always a direct link in a supply chain but they are supporting operations. I am a firm believer in efficiency, this includes efficiency in meetings as well. People will not take meetings serious if they are bored or feel their time is wasted and they will feel their companies do not value their time or the company’s money.

TITLE - Work Smart: Unconventional Cures For Meeting-itis The video focus on three way that companies can use to make meeting productive. Meeting can be boring but as she said meeting can be the only way to get some importants things passed, hence necessary and cannot be avoided. Making the agenda to be clear is the key. Managers need to have the agenda set before the call a meeting. Short and brief which are highly structure are good. As a manager you need to appreciate the time people gave you their time by focusing on agenda and finishing the meeting on time.

Time is invaluable in any business organization. If a company wastes time, they are losing money. Thus, whatever a company does must be directed towards wasting no time. Businesses hold meetings in order to communicate, inform, and also to make decisions on important matter. However, meetings tend to be time consuming and less productive than planned. In order to get most out of a meeting, the video suggests three unconventional methods, which I found very relevant. Using projection timers, removing electronics devices, removing chairs are few methods that can aid in making the meeting productive.

Gena must be the time management guru because she always has great tips that apply to utilizing your time efficiently. Keeping meetings focused with an agenda and also brief is super important. There must be a key leader that keeps all things in order in a meeting. When meetings are run effectively you show the employees that you respect their time and you just needed to use the meeting to take care of important things.

I wish I could send this video to my supervisor! Our meetings always seen extra long so we as employees zone out. The meetings are never straight forward, get off subject, and some times don't deal with our shift. So it seems like most of us shouldn't be invite to the meeting. Then when we finally get out of the meeting, we are behind on work. I love the sound of short straight forward meetings with a focused agenda.

This video makes a great point that I think a lot of managers need to take into account when conducting meetings. Often times, meetings turn into a huge cluster that has completely strayed away from the agenda of the meeting. Keeping meetings distraction free, concise; with only those employees who need to be involved in attendance, and a time limit to eliminate unnecessary discussions. These tips, as explained in the video are all helpful to running an efficient meeting and being productive for the company.

No one likes meetings, but unfortunately they are just unavoidable. Sometimes it's the only way to get everyone in the same room together to discuss things. However they tend to be too long and happen too often. We feel like they are a huge waste of time. It's difficult to keep meetings short and sweet with still being productive. Some ways to help get rid of meeting-itis is to have a timer. Set the time for a certain amount of time and when it goes off, it's over. Make sure to have a structured agenda and follow it. Companies have found that having a standing only meeting, gets people to pay attention and get things done in a timely manner. Who wants to stand for a long period of time? No one. So this is a great idea to try out. Distractions such as phones and laptops will make meetings longer because people are not focusing on the actual meeting. Another way to help meetings run more smoothly is by making your employees leave their phones and laptops outside of the meeting room. This will make the meeting the focus of attention. These tips could even make meetings end early and that will surely make everyone happy.

I know I would have meeting-itis if the meeting went on too long. Who has time to be in a meeting for long periods of times, meetings are boring as is. Lets cover a topic and move one, meetings shouldnt last for six hours talking about the same topic. A great leader should limit the time so that all of his workers will appreciate the meeting restrictions and regulations. A short meetings about many topics is useful in a firm that is trying to get the job done in a short amount of time, and that is needed in certain workplaces.

Gina Trapani talks about meeting-itis or how meetings can be disruptive or unnecessary. No one wants to be a part of excessive meetings that run for a long period of time. While there are some meetings that can be very important as far as sharing and passing on information, but sometimes only a handful of people need to be responsible with that knowledge. I think it's up to managers to understand the appropriate amount of time or frequency that meetings are set though.

Work Smart: Unconventional Cures For Meeting-itis Meetings are something that every job has. Whether it be formal or informal they are partially in our everyday life. Leaders should realize that if they are going to have a meeting make it worth the employees time. Don't have meeting when you have nothing important to discuss or it can be something that is given over an email. Make sure they keep is short and keep everyone focused on the topics at hand. Have an agenda when its time to have a meeting and hand it out to all employees that way the employer doesn't get off track.
