This video seems to be discussing more of what would be Group-Think. Perhaps he is only referring to brainstorming in office places, which has been known to be unproductive. I believe the video should have been titled "Does Group Brainstorming Work" this would have allowed the viewer to go into the video with clearer understanding of what was about to be discussed.

I can see the point to his video but honestly, it just sounds like he is explaining brainstorming without the “thou shall not criticize” rule. To me, I feel like you shouldn’t count anyone’s ideas out but you have to know how to separate the good ideas from the bad ones. Everyone in the group needs to be able to do this. It is good to criticize like he said in the video but at the same time, you need to make sure that you’re not totally shooting down someone’s self-confidence because you don’t like their idea. Other than that, I definitely agree with his idea that there needs to be some form of GOOD criticism to make brainstorming truly effective.

Brainstorming is very popular technique. They say criticizing the idea of other are no acceptable, you just can’t do it. But I think that it is needed, not every idea should get good praise. Groups that engage in debate come up with more idea and they are more original. I do try to brainstorm when I can but most of the time I just try and go with my first thought.

There must be times when you brainstorm to come up with a solution to certain problems. I do it every time I go into work, me and others along with the boss will talk about which way is it best to do this project and get everyone's feedback. This makes sure everyone is on the same page.

I always brainstorm with any task or situation I do, especially if it is a big decision. I especially like the fact that you should not criticize other brainstormers in your group, no idea is a bad idea.

Brainstorming is a way to think of ideas. The one rule to brainstorming is that you don't criticize. People will come up with fewer ideas if they come are told to come up with ideas in a group setting. This is because people tend to criticize each other. Criticism is actually a good thing because it forces people to think about what they are coming up with, and dig a little deeper so that they can have the best idea possible.

This video is so very true. If you criticize someone when they are trying to be creative, they will clam up. They will be so afraid to give any more input that they won’t say anything. I agree with the video when it said that all ideas are good ideas. Ideas feed off of one another, so if someone says something that isn’t quite there, the added ideas may boost the idea into the next level. At this level you will achieve success and your overall goal.

so brain storming doesn't really work when you've got everyone accepting every idea they can shake a stick at. here we see that if you allow constructive criticism then people will be able to stay more alert and actually come up with better ideas.

I completely agree that brainstorming doesn't work. Dissent and discuss makes so much more sense to me. I think when we are in group projects I like to present ideas and have them shot down or championed on their merits. I think this is the best way to get the best ideas on the table instead of everyone just championing a bunch of crap ideas.

Brainstorming is effective because it helps to create and generate ideas. The saying two brains is better then one is true because with brainstorming it helps people to collaborate in groups and to put together ideas when researching or seeking information. Brainstorming is useful in the workplace because it bring together the ideas of people who can work together to solve issues in the work place.

I have personally always been a strong believer in Brain Storming. Through my experiences in college, we implemented brain storming all the time. I agree with the speaker when saying that you can not criticize. Any idea is a good idea. When everyone can put their ideas together, they can come up with a central best idea and it can be something very successful. Debate should not go on in a brainstorming meeting. I think the best way to use it is to sit around a circle or a meeting table and write down all the ideas and then narrow them down.

When this video began and the speaker stated do not criticize during a brainstorming process, I thought to myself "Oh no! I always do that!" I think it is important to constructively criticize during a brainstorm session because just like the speaker stated only cliche, non-original idea will come out during the brainstorm meeting. It is also important to nicely criticize people and not just crush their ideas. There will be no productive brainstorming in this type of meeting or session.

Brainstorming is when a group of people throw out ideas without criticizing others' thoughts. Then there's constructive criticism which is the same thing, only people converse on how they feel about each other's ideas. Obviously constructive criticism is much more effective because people can actually learn from others, and be honest about what they think.

I liked it. I thought that when brainstorming you were supposed to criticize or improve on the ideas that are thrown out during the session. I didn't realize it was done any other way. I like the fact that they flat out said we are more productive when criticized or challenged and when we all agree we are less productive.

Brainstorming helps you really develop the blueprint to solving a problem. It is simply trying to figure out how it will all come about and in my opinion, make it stand out as well. Even in everyday situations we must brainstorm from what we want to eat today, to what clothes we want to wear. It's how we figure out what the best solution is for us or others around us. If you just go with the flow, sometimes the result isn't always the best therefore it is always good to brainstorm to you know what type of result your working towards to receive in the end.
