RSA Shorts - Does Brainstorming Work?
Alex Osborn's idea of brainstorming has been important in business for many years now. The technique is very simple, but it is crucial to not criticize other people's ideas while brainstorming. Brainstorming is about everyone throwing ideas out there and a team deciding what information or ideas to use in order to create something. If people are criticized about their ideas they will become shy and not want to give ideas anymore. This can harm a business because people won't want to give their ideas and those ideas could be creative and great for the company.

Brainstorming, which requires those involved to not criticize ideas of others, does not work. The group who actively engages in constructive criticism actually gains more ideas and more detailed ideas. Choosing to brainstorm can be quite counter productive.

RSA Shorts - Does Brainstorming Work?
I would agree with this video clip. If you are never criticized for an idea then you have no incentive to change or make an idea better. An idea can be molded or shaped into a great idea if it is questioned. We must be challenged or stretched to become better, or solve a problem. Think about if someone criticizes an idea, you will think deeper in order to prove your idea better or solve the issue in which is brought forth. Another analogy would be a new job position, you always start off basic, but you must be shown your mistakes by management in order to become a better employee. It is not as if you were not a good employee, but sometimes we must be challenged in order to become better.

TITLE - RSA Shorts - Does Brainstorming Work
Brainstorming is an important concept to get ideas of other people. During brainstorming do not criticise the ideas of other people, when you criticize others ideas at the initial stages you demoralize. Of course when initial brainstorming finished all the information is gather and criticism is good then because everything cannot be valuable. Constructive criticism is good because it makes us see what we could not have seen, it opens our mines to consider other factors which may be very important.

Brainstorming is one of the widely used methods of getting ideas from people. People from different background with different thinking perspective may bring ideas that you as a business leader may or may not agree to. However, in a brainstorming session, one of the key rules is not to criticize anyone for their ideas. Brainstorming is just the initial phase of idea generation and every idea must be welcomed. However, in the later phase constructive criticism can be helpful. It makes the person to see things that he/she could have ignored.

TITLE - RSA Shorts - Does Brainstorming Work? I feel brainstorming does work just to curtain extent, far as school goes. Maybe not like he point out in meeting where as a group of people are put together to come up with in idea and of course like the video point out they are going to be a lot of bumping heads. So does it work in my opinion yes, as far as brainstorming your life and school papers you would always want to brainstorm.

Brainstorming has shown that groups become less than the sum of their parts. Many people in a group just adopt one persons idea and run with that. Groups do not encourage free thinking because many people could be nervous their ideas may be criticized. Research shows that many people think more freely individually than in a group.

Brainstorming is when everyone just write down any idea that pops in their head. If you criticize all the ideas that people come up with, you won't get anywhere. The point is to think of new and exciting things, and trying something different. If you criticize everything, you won't have any ideas to choose from. And if you do have ideas to choose from, most likely they will be similar.

TITLE - RSA Shorts - Does Brainstorming Work?
The video confused me at the end when it mentioned criticism in a positive manner after positioning it as something not to do while brainstorming. I believe belittling criticism in bad and should not be done. Although, challenging thoughts in the proper manner can allow the team to dig deeper on the subject. Whether there is criticism or not during brainstorming the team can can not be productive if they do not have personalities that do well together. Criticism is something we should refrain from doing in all instances.

I think the most important point to take away from this video is to not criticize in a brainstorming situation. When there are a group of people brainstorming, throwing ideas out there on a specific topic and bouncing these ideas off of each other and adding to them, it is so important not to laugh at, turn down, or call someone's idea stupid. Criticizing someone's idea that they thought of on their own will cause them to clam up and not want to share anymore for fear of further critiques. Brainstorming sessions should be open and friendly and critic free to be successful.

In this video he talks about brainstorming and how it has been proven to not be effective. The only rule in brainstorming is to not criticize. It's very important not to criticize others ideas because all ideas are good ideas. However, this concept turns out to be useless. If we are suppose to believe every idea is a good one, then how are you going to decide which idea to use? Sometimes debates and going back and forth with ideas is helpful. If you don't give constructive criticism than you won't be able to come up with the best idea to implement.

This video talks about how brainstorming without criticizing is not nearly as effective and it makes sense. I feel as though often times in todays society everyone is coddled and led to believe that everything they do deserves an award. In the real world, your supervisor or manager is not going to care that you tried your best, he is going to care only that you got the job done efficiently.

TITLE - RSA Shorts - Does Brainstorming Work?
Brainstorming is critical in a business setting. No idea when brainstorming is a stupid idea. That would stop someone from voicing there idea if something keeps criticizing everything that a person says. Even in everyday life, if someone is getting criticized everyday they would eventually stop talking and not say anything that they mean. Criticizing someone is not the best shot to take at someone who would have a great idea that the group might not understand and the idea is not well defined.

Brainstorming is a critical function of any planning situation. This video communicates the key points to successful brainstorming. I like their idea that says not to criticize your fellow brainstormers. Any and every idea can be useful enough to spin off into something else. So that's why it's important to listen to everyone's ideas because you never know when they will be important or useful.
