Worker productivity is not solely reliant on workers. It is also reliant on management, human resources, organizational structure, and job creation/positions. I dislike how the video looks at workers being responsible for distractions...the viewpoint is too static. Being distracted is not entirely their fault. I can hardly blame someone for procrastinating when they are being underpaid or receive little satisfaction from their jobs. This is why employee satisfaction is a must. Employees do, however, have the power to minimize distractions along with the company.

TITLE- Work Smart: Avoid Office Distractions with Time Blocking
Office distractions are growing more influential rapidly because of the internet and technology. For managers it can be a very hindering inluence on their overall performace. I currently use my own method of time blocking but have never used it in the same context of that described in the video. I will definetly attempt to use time blocking in the future.

I think this video is a little much. Everyone has to deal with inturruptions and everyone should be able to multitask. Managing distractions and inturruptions is part of working. Cutting off internet access and holding up in a corner by yourself just to accomplish a task seems a little much. People in the working world should know how to manage their time and budget time for distractions.

Time blocking can be really helpful when trying to get work done. If you have the discipline and the motivation to commit to these blocks, you can get a lot done. There are days during the week where I have breaks in between classes and I always say that I will do school work in between, and sometimes that just doesn't happen. So I cannot say this works for everyone. But motivation helps. She gave some great examples to follow to get work done in a timely manner and provides good ideas to not allow other factors to get in the way of your time block for working.

Distractions can be very bad, because they can cause you to forget what you are doing productively for the company. Some examples would be your phone or internet. People working for you can cause interruptions also. The way to handle distractions is to time block. Time blocking is when you schedule some time away from these distractions, so you can get your best work done without being interrupted by other people. It's a really great technique.

I love this idea and it is definitely something I am going to try to start doing. I need to block out time each and every day not only for tasks I need to accomplish but also for me time. I think this is a great concept and by blocking out time with yourself, you are dedicating a set amount of time to a project. It is also important to only focus on one task per time block out. If you start focusing on too many tasks at one time, you drive yourself crazy and stressing out about how you are going to get all of these things done. Block out time to complete a specific task and seclude yourself so you can focus.

Wow, that is an insane amount of money that we waste from getting distracted. I will try this when I find my self over booked and over worked. It makes a lot of since, but I always feel that everything is a priority. Plus, the things people bring to me are a priority. So this may be difficult for me in my position.

This video provides good advice. Distractions will come up but avoiding them and concentrating on specific task is the only way to get work done. Blocking hour long meetings for yourself to complete work especially creative work is a great way to increase your productivity. This video offered good advice that I feel could be used in the workplace.

It is definitely important to schedule time to get an important task done. In order to get things done the right way there should be no distractions or interruptions. Have a start and end time and if you work where there are many distractions go to another part of the office to concentrate. I can relate to this while in school. I download the files I need and print them so that I am not distracted with the internet.

This is really great advice. I would definitely get a lot more done if I put away anything that could distract me. I never even thought of turning off e-mail notifications or my phone. I didn't realize how much time these things were taking away from my productivity. Time-blocking is a great idea that I will try to enforce for future projects.

I like the suggestion of "time blocking", I do this a lot at work in order to meet deadline. I have made it a point to turn off the notification sound that a new email has posted to my inbox. Otherwise I will stop what I'm working on to check to see if it is an important email, and then more than likely become distracted from what I was originally working on. There were good suggestions given in this video that I will definitely try.

I definitely think this technique can be useful. At my internship, I constantly find myself looking at my phone or checking emails or Facebook, when I could be doing the work I've been assigned. Instead of blocking time the way she did it, I think I would set a time goal for myself. Say, for the next hour, I will focus only on this and once the hour is up I can check whatever I need to or grab a drink or snack and allow myself a 5 minutes break, before the next hour of work. I think that would be very helpful to me to avoid distractions and to be more productive.

Time blocking is very effective in being productive. Setting time aside is easy but making sure you use that time efficiently is a whole different story. Whenever I have a project or test coming up I completely turn off the outside world by turning my phone on silent and find a quiet place whenever I can, if that's not possible I just put in earplugs to block everything else out. Not having distractions helps the project get done faster and easier.

I think this is a great video. Distractions can play a huge part in your day. Each time that you have to stop what youre doing and direct your attention elsewhere, you are set back. I think that the hour long meetings with yourself are a very good idea. Setting yourself apart from any distractions is one of the best way to get things done. I think that in class you can also be easy distracted especially if students walk in class late. I really enjoyed this video.

This is how i learned to study. By becoming focused you feel like you are in your own zone. And you feel like you are actually learning the information. Time blocking is a must for college students who want good grades.
