I most agree with, and like, point #4: connect to a community that teaches, inspires, and supports you; this is why I am a member of SHRM. This organization has meeting, guest speakers, informative emails, etc. that are all very interesting and helpful. To get into a career with HR you need to be connected to the people that are already in it. They give insight and advice on how to become an HR employee and how to be successful at it.

I couldn't understand him fully because of his accent. His points seemed valid and we all need career development in our lives when trying to become the best in our career. Developing your career and the career of others around you is what is most important. You helping others build up is what is good as well. Being the one who motivates a group of people i seven better. Develop those who are among you and they will help your career prosper in the end.

Finally a Harvard presentation with an actual speaking person. He talks about knowing the basics and having a decent foundation for building your career on. I like how he talks about developing your abilities and knowledge to better develop your talents.

I feel lie it is very common to question what you do and why you do it. To think of it like art is a good perspective. There are so many things that come in to part. Making the meaning in what you do is showed by others. There are lots of characteristics that are involved in what you do if you identify these thins you can be successful and you know what your doing is your thing and you will be more creative and productive. I absolutely love what I do and people know this because I really try to show my expertise and show meaning in what I do and have the courage to stick up for what I believe and want.

In order to be successful in the career a person has to be knowledgeable in that career path. How can a mechanic be a good mechanic unless they have the automotive skills to be successful in that career path. In order to be Successful in a career path you can wing it or expect it to come to you over night. It takes a lot of determination and effort on the individual to be successful.

Career development is definitely an art. Once you know which career you want to pursue, you need to be very knowledgeable in what the job entails. After that, we must prove our importance and worth to people in the company. Then, we must have courage to set ourselves apart from others and show that we are more than able to do the job. Finally, we need to take the time to get to know the society that influences us in so many ways.

I like this video. Choosing your career can be very difficult. Its true how he says that the better you do, the broader your opportunities are. Thinking of your career as art is a very interesting way for him to look at it. I agree that the ability to motivate your team is important. I also agree that skills are in fact necessary, but they are not always enough. Just having the skills is most likely never enough.

These four tips are great to take with me as I move forward in my career. I think they are very important also for managers to use. They make employees happy and better equipped to complete their work., Today's workforce isn't solely about the salary you make, it's about more then that. Employees want to feel purpose not only in their work, but also within the community they live or work in. It is important for management to create these environments for employees and allow them to flourish.

To be successful in any business you must establish yourself in the company you are with. Three key points the video explained was expertise, meaning, and courage. I believe those are all very important attributes for a person to have to be successful.

Career development is very much like art, I think it is a great comparison. When you must start with the beginning skills, like how to use a simple brush.

You get to move up and move around. I like this. You also get to do what you love. I like the message and the way he points out that you don't have to be the expert, but familiar. He relates your job or career to something with meaning. The difference it makes, and that you should be an artist in what you do. Expertise, meaning and courage... and the community... I was pleasantly surprised by what he had to say. It was difficult to get past the typical same old hand motions and gestures. They don't seem genuine or authentic.

This video explains career development. Basically one should develop expertise in their career, share their knowledge, and build relationships with others. I think it is very important to constantly build relationships with others. You never know what you can learn by just listening to others.

I like this video because it is simply explaining how you find your greater purpose through your talents. To do that, it's crucial that you have the ability to do what you want. Have skills that come naturally to you so you can excel. Having a deeply rooted passion for what you want to do is as important as how you express that to others. Courage to do this is probably the hardest part of this whole concept. But, as he explains, you can use a community of people who are like minded. This is a similar idea behind the work sessions that FaceBook holds.

I liked the analogy that the speaker used about moving up in your career is not just like moving up a ladder but rather moving around a canvas like a work of art. Today succeeding is much more than simply moving up the corporate ladder. You can bring a lot to the table no matter what your position is in a company if you simply open your mind and share your ideas. There is no longer just one approach of up and down, ideas can come from all round and move you to place you never thought you could go.
