To develop your career, build a foundation of expertise by gaining knowledge of your function, communicate and build a network of supporters. Prove the work you do matters and be courageous and put yourself out there. Connect to a community that teaches, inspires and supports you.

Skills are necessary, but applying those skills can be difficult. I agree with him. If you can apply those skills and be able to express yourself then it will make a difference. I think everyone wants to feel like they have made a difference.

Career development should begin the second you decide what you want to do for the rest of your life. That can begin at any age. You can take courses in high school, go to college and study in your field of interest. You can join clubs, organizations, get internships, get part time jobs, network, etc. You can do just about anything and everything BEFORE landing that big job.

I agree with this video in stating that you must strengthen your skills to achieve your career development. You must also step out of your comfort zone in order to advance in your career. Not only should you be good at what you do as well as proving your worth, you must also let a company know how beneficial you are in the growth of their business.

This man has a lot to say. I enjoyed it. Especially his definition of what art or an artist is. Art is making anything with care and precision even when the theme is chaos. Its only planned chaos. It is the translation of an idea into a real world entity. Whatever you do in this world, treat it as an artist and you will get something back from it.

In order to develop your career, you need to have a clear understanding of what it is that you do. Just having a title is not enough. When asked what it is you do, you should be able to fully explain it and actually understand what you do. Same goes for interviews. You should be able to fully explain to an interviewee what the position is so that they can fully understand it.

You must have a clear understanding of what you want to do and how your going to do it to develop your career. Once your in that career you should show that what your doing makes a difference and continue to grow by learning new skills. You should also be involved as much as possible to become a part of the team. By doing all of these things you will establish a place in your career and show that you are valuable and have what it takes to be promoted.

As a business leader or manager, it is critical that we help our employees feel a sense of importance and purpose through their work. If our employees feel as though they are undervalued or not important, they will be more apt to maintain low productivity and simply do what is needed rather than going above and beyond. However, as employees, we must courageous in allowing our voices to be heard. We may want something to be done, but may be too afraid to express that idea for fear of ridicule and criticism. We must be skilled, we must feel purpose, but ultimately, we must be courageous in allowing ourselves to be seen and taking risks that appear before us.

I really liked how he compared career development to an artist. Many of us wonder what we will do after college has come and gone. Having skills is what will get you in the door, but it's all about having passion and courage. You have to love what you do and be able to stand up and fight for what you want in life.

The video gave good tips for those wanting to grow their careers. The number thing is knowing what career field you want to enter and have the want to become an expert in that field. Striving to be the very best in that field alone will open more doors for advancement in the near future.

I agree with the fact that we do search for careers that feed our passion. I would hate to waste my life doing something every day that did not give me true joy or fulfillment. Having courage is also important I believe because your confidence shines through. I believe that courage/confidence is one of the hardest things to try to develop. I think it is a parents job to instill confidence and courage into their child, if not it can lead to a life of doubt and failure.

This video applies to me in many ways specifically at my internship. At my internship i am building my foundation of what it is like to do which is work where i had my internship at. Everyday i prove my work matters by trying to make a difference and make where I am working a better place. Be courageous and put yourself out there, this is not a hard skill for me to do, I am marketing major and that is my life(hahah). Connecting with community i love this because the people around you do so much for you whether it is supporting you or challenging you people are here for you.

All of the points addressed are important for becoming successful. Courage is probably the biggest factor, though, because if you are not brave enough, then you will never take the chance needed in becoming successful.

People need to develop their careers. They should build it on a foundation of expertise. The should have the necessary skills to make them successful in their career. They should be able to prove that the work that they do matters. They should also have courage. It is hard to develop all of these by oneself. They should be able to speak with others, creating a community, to bounce ideas off one another. Managers should see be sure they encourage people to work together and be courageous. If a manager can do this, they will have a successful team that is less likely to leave the company.
