In this video we were given four steps on how to create a career for myself. Basically, he states that we need to figure out what we are good at and just to add a little to it, a lot of schooling never hurt. He then goes on to state that we need to prove that our work matters, I raise the question, to whom? If I like my job and get paid to do something I like, then who do I need to prove it to? If I'm employed for a good period of time at a job then I must be doing something right. BE courageous is the third one, and I would have to agree on the basis that without this you really can't go anywhere in life, can't speak to women, can't get a good job, can't move up, can't come forward with ideas, so ultimately having this ability will greatly help. The last one is connect with people who inspire, teach, and support you, I also agree with this point because without the proper mentor, a person can only go so far on their own. Being able to use people as books to learn is an expressway to success.

Career development is an art INDEED. Finding out what career path to take is even more difficult especially with all the opportunities to go in various directions. Build that foundation with skills you have and expound on those in the direction you need to go in. It is important to make a difference in what you choose because it helps you move further, upward in your career. Great analogy in this video.

I think that the biggest factor in being successful is having courage and being confidant. If you are not confidant in what you are doing how can you expect someone else to have the courage to do their best. I think that this is extremely important to have so that you can continually move forward in your business and not lose sight of what is truly important.

This video is called the art of career development. The better you do, the broader the range of opportunities you have. It's important to have expertise in your field of work. You need to have a sense of purpose in knowing what you do matters. It's also important to be courageous. The fourth and last point is to connect to a community.

I would definitely share this link with friend and colleagues. Thank you Professor! I think career development of a person is very important. I think that being courageous, growing through progression of one's work experience is very important. By doing these things it y makes an employee very valuable and makes the person an all around great asset to a company. I feel personally through my person progression I really have become well rounded and look forward to working for a big corporation one day!

This video was okay. It is definitely important to "build on a foundation of expertise." That is, you have to recognize your strengths as well as your weaknesses and build upon that a foundation where you can grow and flourish. The best advice I think he gave was number 3: be courageous. I feel that far too many people today, especially young adults, have a tendency to conform and have a fear of putting themselves out there and being different. It's always good to stand out from the crowd, especially when you are trying to make progress in your career.

Your work matters because at the end of the day it’s ultimately what you do and who you are. You cannot separate yourself entirely from work as actions and decisions always catch up to people. For example, a manager’s self-conscious and health from making a decision on the behalf of a company is still affected. To put simply, personal lives are still at stake when people lay in bed at night thinking of their morals and consequences. Everything we do in life affects us for better or worse. Therefore, it is so important to find work which makes us happy and passionate. Besides, being happy and passionate about something normally improves our productivity and longevity as well as our health.

TITLE- The Art of Career Development
I really like the reference of art in the context of business. The message really correlates to successful businesses. Thinking of business in this way opens a lot of possibilities to promote creativity and innovation. Increasing these two factors as business managers can be very beneficial to achieving success throughout our careers.

I think the best part of this video is the importance of courge to career development. You have to have the courage to express your ideas and make mistakes to move up in the world. Courge is what gets you from the bottom to the top, and its what picks you up when you are down. I like that he placed emphasis on courage in career development.

Connect to a community that inspires you. These are all things that make your career. You want to work for someone who has the same views as you.

Career development has been defined in many ways this video had an interesting take on it. The four steps can be useful when developing your career. First, build your career on a foundation of expertise. You must be great at your job in order to standout. Second, prove the work you do matters. People love to see others working hard for something they believe in. Third, having courage to put yourself out there is the best way to be noticed and advance. Finally, connecting to a community that supports you allows you to grow as a professional.

When we graduate from college, we will have chosen the best career for ourselves. We have also chosen the best major for ourselves. We are given four steps to help develop our career in the future, which is extremely important, because we will use this after we graduate. We want to be experts in what we are doing, because if we know what we are doing that can help us do the job better. You want your job to matter to you, because you don't want to be one of those people who doesn't like their job.

These were good pieces of advice. Building on expertise is they key of any business. You cannot succeed in business if you do not know or understand what your are selling. You also won't be able to empathize with customers. Some of his pieces of advice made me think of branding. Expressing yourself is how your company markets and brands itself. Just like an artist, a company is trying to create an image. It does so by putting what it thinks represents that image out in the public. This video was a very good analogy to creating a good business.
