TITLE - Sheryl Sandberg: C-Suite Speaks
I think the advice Sandberg gave on how to retain and nurture talent was great! You do want to train and keep people who are going to make the organization run smoother as a whole, not someone who will create unnecessary friction for everyone. At my job, their are plenty of people who are talented and able to perform the tasks given to them, but they do not go the extra mile to bring others along and share their successes with others to help the company run smoother.

It was unclear as to what the topic was: "identifying problems and bringing other people along with them." When one identifies a problem, I really would not want to bring someone associated with that problem along with the problem. In order to not create "organizational friction" one must be well rounded and know how to identify problems and correct them in a way to where others can learn from their transgressions and wrong doings by example. If a person has been through something, experienced a negative outcome and doesn't want anyone else to make the same mistakes as them, they should correct it and spread the word.

It is very unique to be a problem solver and finder. Sandberg feels that employees who can not only find problems, but who can solve them in a way that will bring harmony and cohesiveness to the organization are the best to nurture into leadership roles. It is important for employers to try to keep these workers because they are such a unique asset to the business.

Identifying and finding solutions for the problems that are found, this allows your supervisors to see that you can take control when need be. Being someone who stands out from the rest of the people is a great way to get people to notice you. People who work well with others is something that is very important because if you cannot get along well with others then you are most likely to fail at most of your projects. Team work, talent and problem solving ability can and will get you noticed in the workplace.

I would definitely share this link with friends and colleagues. Thank you Dr. Wyld. I think that nurturing a talented employee is very essential. I also feel that good employees are hard to come by and that as a business owner there should always be a way to give employees incentives in order to keep the employees very happy. When employees bring in other employees like I have done at my current job it speaks volumes of the company.

Identifying a problem and problem solving are very important for any companies success. This video goes into detail about how you should be able to take people with you during the problem solving process. Bringing others along with you makes a company stronger and teaches the employees how to solve problems in the future on their own.

This video was okay. Many people can identify a problem, but those who can solve problems are the key employees who should be nurtured and empowered. It is also important to solve problems in a way that won't create friction, especially when the problem is somebody else's doing or responsibility to fix. I believe that problem solving ideas always come from outside the box thinking and innovative ideas, and employees who demonstrate this way of thinking should always be retained and encouraged to continue demonstrating innovation.

Problem solvers are always desirable in business because they are fast, adaptable, and responsive. My finance teacher tells us, quite frequently, how MBA students are overpaid because being good at school is different than being good on the job. What is two more additional years of schooling compared to the standard four, if the two years are not helping you solve problems faster or more effectively? Successful businessmen/women are people who can apply knowledge, not simply memorize knowledge.

The people in organizations you don't want them to just identify the issues you want them to go beyond that. Many people can figure out issues. It is the way that you use these issues and deal with them that is the most important. These are the people you want working for your company.

Looking for the qualities she mention in the video when hiring is a great way to start. Look for team players, leaders, and those who know how to solve a problem without causing a stir. These are the people you want to nurture.

Being able to solve problems in the business world is one of the best qualities to have. Companies will nurture to you for being able to solve problems and bring others with you when you solve those problems.

I agree that companies should retain and nurture those employees that identify problems and also solve those problems by bringing people along with them. These are the best people for a company.

Obviously, people able to identify and solve problems are beneficial to a company. As she mentions, these are the employees worth retaining and nurturing. I think she could have focused more on 'how' to keep the problem solvers and other talented employees, not just saying who is worth nurturing in an organization. She did make a good point in mentioning that problem solvers need to bring people along with them. This will help educate those unfamiliar with the same issues.
