Managers need to pay more attention to those who have lower performance. The ones that have great performance obviously have some kind of motivation that is pushing them. Managers need to help keep that motivation consistent, but those employees do not need as much caring and nurturing. The lower performance is who needs to be helped and motivated. Spending time with these people can help the organization.

Tom describes who the B players actually are. B players are a category of people that are the center. It is sad though that, even though B players are important, they are often ignored because they are not the high performers or the extroverted, flashy ones. B players are typically A players that have chosen to throttle it down because they want to stay where they are at. Some people are just not comfortable with promotion. B players are reliable and should never be forgotten. Many times, managers focus on those who are at the top currently and forget about those important B players who really make the organization tick.

I believe that the B players are unappreciated at every organization. The B players are the heart of the organization and what keep the company alive. I think too often managers focus on the higher involved employees and don't give the B players enough attention. The B players make sure the right people are in the company and stay in it. It is important for the B players to recognize these people, and also it is very important for them to all keep open and honest discussion between all players in the company.

I agree that managers do not spend enough time looking at the things that aren't considered important to them. Many imperative details are being missed and this results in bigger problems down the road.
