Customers don't go to the back of the store, there looking around at the product or trying to get help from a worker in the store. Everyone has a role and they need to carry their load. You need to interact with your staff and customers.

I think small and big businesses should both be treated as a family. Small businesses more so because they do have a more close knit employee network. In order for the "family" to run smoothly, you have to pay attention to each and every member, making sure everyone is doing their job, and also enjoying their role in the company. An owner or manager has the unique task of not completely bossing their employees around, but acting as a guiding "father".

I enjoyed this video I think that as a manager it's very important to be as involved as you possibly can with your business and with your staff. The people that work for you aren't just your employees they do become your family. On average most people actually see their coworkers more than they see their family, so it's important that you as a manager treat them that way. If you can accomplish that then you will have a business that runs smoothly and effectively.

I really enjoyed the video. I've worked in small businesses since high school and I definitely agree with what the speaker said. At the firm I work at now we are definitely like a family. We all support the vision of the CEO. It's also easier for us to support his vision, because he's in the office with use and we know first had of what he expects from us.

This is a great video for people like me who want to own a small business one day. It is important to be aware of exactly what is going on in the company. Being there in the present literally in the middle of the company is the best way to know what is going on. This way if there is a problem you will see it right away and fix it right away. I really like how Bob refers to a business as a big family. This is true. When you spend everyday with your employees they do become like a family. And just like you real family they will be there for you and advise you if you treat them with love and respect and do everything to make sure they are happy. In return they will do everything to make you and the business happy.

Eneslow Pedorthic Enterprises: Lead from the Middle
Presence of a top manager usually can galvanize employees, especially if management make themselves available at all times and not necessarily during a crisis. This video discusses the importance of higher management's presence in the workplace. When an organization understands that the 'decision-makers' care about the business and not just a bottom-line figure the organization as a whole becomes more productive. Listening to employees and the customers is vital to a business's success.

I agree that managers should manage on the floor and not behind a desk. A manager's who works hand-in-hand with employees and customers is able to relate to the business and how it operates in a more realistic prospective. This also promotes stronger customer relations between the managers and the customers.

I like how he encouraged people to lead from the middle. Anybody can stand in the back office of a store front and think they know what they are talking about but honestly, it's the managers who are in the work every day experiencing with their employees right along side then who make great leaders.

In order to have a successful small business, or any business for that matter, being in the middle is extremely important. Having direct contact with the day to day activities and customer engagement can help a business owner make better decisions for the company.

In my opinion this video offered an incredibly insightful look at the the inner-workings of a small business. It is like a family; and to be the most effective manager of a small business, it is imperative that whoever is managing keeps a visible and interactive relationship with employees and customers alike.

I've always enjoyed talking with elderly people, doesn't matter what they have to share with you, it's usually something brilliant, something that opens up your eyes and mind. Listening to Mr. Bob Schwartz made me feel the same way. He made it so easy to understand the key to the success of running a small business, which is having the "family" support.

It is important for higher management to be involved in their business. The video calls it managing from the middle. Customers and employees respond better when they know the ones in charge are working for the greater benefit of the company and its customers, not just for a bigger dollar amount. To be a true leader you cannot be your first priority.

Small business are great and can have a amazing outcome that is tight nit with its employees and managers but I think it makes it harder to hire and fire people. Business should be run just that like a business and when emotions get involved it becomes bad for business so it good to be like a family but remember to keep that manager employee line.

Listening to employees and customers are vital in a companies success. You sometimes need to lead from the middle and not the back of the store. Let the other employees deal with the backroom stuff, you want to be out in the action mingling and learning from the customers. A manager needs to listen to their employees and accept their ideas and statements. I think this video is great for any manager to watch, do not just sit in the back and manage from their, get out in the thick of things and support your employees.

I believe every manager should watch this video because it is a great example of how managers should treat their employees. I think every manager should treat their employees as they do their family. I think it is important for employees to be present and let the employees know they are always there for work or personal problems. I also think it is important for managers to include employees and let their inputs be heard. After all the employees are the ones who directly face your customers day to day.
