I feel like this is another, get your day organized lesson to learn. If a person is organized then they will be able to roll with the punches, if things come up but they are able to be organized about it then they can move stuff around and make time to do everything he or she needs to throughout the day. However, if you are not very organized and have no idea where anything is or what is due when, then you may or may not be in a very large mess that will only get worse as the day goes on. So get everything together and be organized because it will play a huge part in how you got about your days.

Ideally, a work day would be to go in, accomplish your work and go home. Unfortunately, one must deal with unplanned and unpredictable tasks, requests, and problems. In order to avoid any problems, one must make decisions based on priority. Define your work before actually doing it. Just like writing a paper, getting started on a topic, body and supporting ideas etc. is the hardest part. Also, just like a paper, one must have an outline (just in case you have an unexpected interruption).

TITLE - Work Smart: How to Avoid "The Busy Trap"
This video lays out steps and goals you can make in order to avoid the "busy trap". Even though avoiding the busy trap seems to be impossible for me, I did find the advice to make a decision before just doing something is important. If I can begin each day by making a decisive list of things that need to get done, other outside distractions will not be as...distracting because I have a set list already in plan.

Prioritizing and time management helps you to better organize your schedule for the day and be more productive throughout your day. I think that it is hard sometimes to determine what is most important when working on new tasks. As a manager, I think part of the beginning stages of the hiring process should be setting a schedule for new hires to follow until they can manage special tasks accordingly, just to help them get on track. This is not considered babying them, however, it can help produce more effective workers and add value to your company.

It is important to be an organized worker in the business world. By being organized you can stay on top of your priorities and always either be right on task or ahead of your self. By doing this you can make sure that when an interruption occurs you can handle it without having to worry about falling behind on your priorities for your business.

I would definitely share this link with friends and colleagues. Thank you professor. I think that this video is a true testament of how work is done on a daily basis of how people get distracted. Making sure you prioritize, have a list of what is important and try to be efficient and as quick as possible. Not getting distracted is key in order to be successful at work because you do not know when you will be given a task that is unforeseen or comes out of nowhere.

Working smart is very important. interruptions and problems are always going to be right around the corner so it is important to determine what is considered a priority. This video made a very true statement that we often do what is right in front of us, but sometimes thats not the best strategy. This is a reason why a to-do list is a great tool to use, writing down the main priorities and adding in other tasks as they approach so the most important things get done first.

I've definitely learned that you can't just react to what happens during your day; you have to decide what your plans are ahead of time, and be clear on your current projects and priorities. Being able to handle interruptions is also very important, as interruptions can and WILL happen.

To work smart is to think before doing through organization and prioritization skills. In every facet of life, thinking plays a crucial role in effectively doing and learning. If you are just doing, you aren't actively finding ways to better yourself or shorten work...thus, obligations and responsibilities run a higher chance of stacking up. I find, in today's world, there is an overabundance of mediums which can be used to tackle obligations and responsibilities. This tends to be good and bad. It’s good if you know which way is the most efficient way to do something and bad if you are trying to do something through a medium which is less efficient. It’s hard to differentiate and appropriate how to do things at times. The "how to do" something is almost as complex as the "what to do".

I think prioritizing work is more common sense than anything. We do it all the time now in college with deciding what tests need to be studied for earlier and which ones can be put off a little longer. It seems like a no brainer to me.

TITLE- Work Smart: How to Avoid "The Busy Trap"
“The busy trap” happens to me all to often. I really enjoyed the breakdown of this issue and will attempt to take on this method of thinking and preparing. Priorities change constantly and defining what is most pressing is very valuable to the efficiency and effectiveness of my performance. Being able to handle interruptions and manage priorities directly correlates with the performance of managers in almost any industry.

Everyday at work, you wish you can work through your checklist of things to be done. However, work is way more chaotic, and you don't have the opportunity to do this. Work is often disrupted. You have to prepare for these disruptions unfortunately. You should determine which interruptions are important to you and which ones can be ignored.

How to avoid the busy trap is a good video. Too often people just work to work. Showing their managers they are being productive. I thought she gave great tips in this video. Deciding how and when you are going to do things before you just do them is a good way to get an overview of how your day or week will go. I would much rather sit down and decide a time frame for all my work task instead of just jumping right in on whats in front of me. Jumping right in can cause you to miss certain task that have deadlines.
