Bike messenger?? Their are definitely any around here, I really would make it in that possession. I really don't think bike riding is like working in the office. I think it's a neat philosophy but, office work and bike riding are world apart. I agree with office work require to be aware of your surrounding, but it not a life and death situation such as bike messaging. Point being office work will never be treated as life and death, and since the situations are emotionally different you can't reasonably compare the two.

An NYC Bike Messenger Turned SoulCycle Instructor On Managing - And Staying Calm - In Chaos
This was a very interesting video. I would have never thought to compare what a bike messenger does to a person running a business but this video opened my eyes. I definitely can use the advice of staying focused, managing my time, and being flexible. Staying focused is important to get task done. Managing time is also very important. And always being flexible helps. At my current job, we have to be flexible because we are always dealing with interruptions and new tasks being handed to you.

This video stressed the importance of keeping calm during total chaos. Being overwhelmed and stressed can cause the situation to be worse and panicking can cause bad decision making. Being able to take control of a situation starts with staying focused.

I like how the video relates weaving in and out of NYC traffic to being in the workplace. It's important to think fast but also to take a step back and handle one situation at a time calmly.

Kym gives some great advice and I would listen to her because from the video it seems like she is successful and manages her life wisely. So she says the first thing to do is stay focused. This is important for any type of job. Staying focused on what your doing, but also being aware of your surroundings as well. It doesn't matter how hard you are working if the building is burning around you. The second thing Kym says is to manage your time. This is important especially because the majority of jobs and careers don't end at a specific time like five o'clock. They end when you are done all the things you needed to do that day. For example, I work in a daycare. I don't have a set time that I leave. After my kids are gone, I can't leave until my class is in order and ready for the next day. The final thing Kym talks about is being flexible. Being flexible assists in managing time. Sometimes something comes up and you have to adjust your schedule to do it, like when I have a lesson plan to do with the kids and my boss comes and gives me paperwork she needs me to fill out right away. You have to quickly adjust to whatever situation and just make it work. These are all really important things to remember when you are at work.

I'm surprised it's a female biker that has done all the stunts in movies. What she has pointed in the video is true for doing anything well. Stay focused allows us to focus on one thing at a time, because multitasking usually don't work well. Time management requires us to allocate our time wisely, so things can be done. And we should be always flexible for unexpected changes.

That guy getting hit by that taxi took me by surprise. I bet it took him by surprise too! The analogy to the real life office setting is so similar to the life of a bike messenger. The distractions, the pressure, focusing, deadlines, surprises. It was a great demonstration to dealing with everyday issues and complications. I enjoyed the harsh reality that is a bike messengers job.

Sometimes remaining calm is easier said than done, but it is important to hold yourself together when making stressful decisions. It is easy to let the stress get to you and as soon as you do your ability to make rational decisions is out the window. So remain calm and stay focused.

First of all, I agree with the woman who started the video. You have to stay calm in the most stressful situation because the moment you start stressing out, you will fail at what ever you was doing. Secondly, I like her three plans she came up it, and you can use it even in the workplace like she said in the video.

Just walking around in NYC makes me nervous. I could not imagine riding a bike throughout the city as a messenger. But she says to manage stress you need to take a step back look at the situation and do the next step. She says it's important to use time management and to take a deep breath and try not to get overwhelmed.

I really enjoyed this video, when your are overwhelmed with work you need to take a step back, breath, and look at the situation as a whole. As a bike messenger they have a lot of distractions and many obstacles to overcome. They have to always be focused and prepared for anything that New York throws at them. This is a great video for anyone to watch, it is informative and has helpful tips. You have to constantly react to what life throws at you and you have to be ready for anything.

I enjoyed this video because I think it was a great example of "working under pressure." The bicyclist has to make last minute/split second decisions day to day while driving through the chaotic streets of New York City. I believe that this example shows very well how the workplace can get or be sometimes. I have been in a situation where chaos has been all around me in the workplace and it was up to me to either crumble under the chaos and pressures around me or to make rational decisions and keep my head on straight and rock that day!

The three tips: stay focused, manage you time, and be flexible are genius to me. Managing stress and remaining calm can be the difference between accomplishing a given task and not. When you remain focused on your task and not on the stress you can achieve it. Manage your time appropriately and allowing flexibility for unforeseen issues are equally as important. Keeping these three tips in mind for my future tasks will save me a lot of heartache in my opinion.

This is a really cool article. I was super interested in this clip because i have never heard of people doing this before. I do not think that this is the best way to deliver a message, but on the other hand it must be wonderful to keep one in shape. While working this job you must think quickly or you theres a good chance that you will be hit by the busy New York traffic.

This video was pretty cool. I never even knew that this was a job. Yes she has a different job then people who work in an office but the concepts to staying are all the same. The 3 things she stated are very true. You should always stay come and focus, manage your time and be flexible. There will always be chaos in any industry you work in, how you handle it is key.
